I am currently planning activities for 'It Takes MY Child to Raze a Village' (a children/adults co-operative event) that will take place in 2008. The autocrat is finalizing the date and location this and next week, it will be somewhere in Canton of Weldlake, Pentamere, Midrealm (Brighton/Howell, MI).
I need to know everyone's favorite Youth/Children's Activities from an event or SCA activity. If you saw something really cool being done, if you or your child really enjoyed something, if you've always wanted to see something done, please let me know (either here or email me at ladyseadhli@gmail.com)
I am cross-posting this in several places on and off tribe.

Re: Kind of Off-Topic
Fri, September 28, 2007 - 1:11 PMI love toddler boffer fighting. Not really a tourney, more like a melee LOL. My boys are 3 and most children's activities seem to be focused on school-age kids so there's usually nothing for them to do at events, but they see Daddy fighting and they go out into the backyard and hit the pell with their foam swords. -

Re: Kind of a hijacking
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 5:37 AMMy son loves boffer fighting. We had Nerf style foam swords at Pennsic this year. He was having a great tiem playign with the neighbor kids but then he apparently hit one kid in the head and was banned from the camp. I mena the kids are just flialing around anyway and how much could it really hurt? If the rule is no head shots then merely explain that to my son and carry on. Instead he was banished from playing with the camp next door, we spent the rest of Pennsic trying to keep him from going over there to play. It was heartbreaking. -

Re: Kind of a hijacking
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 6:45 AMThat is the biggest pile of crap I have ever heard. They are kids it isnt like they really meant to hurt someone. Besides what kind of parents wants their little boy (the neighboring camp) to grow up to be a wimp. That is when the strengthening really happens. When they are young. I bet they make their kids ride bikes in full armor so that they dont get hurt. Grr....It is gonna be hard to keep my son away from the real weapons....for that matter it already is hard enough to keep him away from them...lol -

Re: Kind of a hijacking
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 6:56 AMI can tell already that my son is going to go inot archery of fighting. It isn't agression it is pure joy. I found a pack of kids to boffer with my son at home and the joy in his face as he is chasing the pack down yelling "Live Free and die with honor..." it was precious. Those kids didn't have any trouble with boffer head shots. It was the puppy pile that caused problems because one boy accidentally stepped on another boy's hand. But that happens in football right? -

Re: Back to the Topic ;o)
Mon, October 8, 2007 - 5:35 PMI already have plans for a Toddler Tourney. I'm really looking for ideas that aren't about fighting - those bases are covered (all ages, both heavy and rapier). Other activities already planned involve Marshmallow catapults with a DoubleDare twist, Tug-of-War, building and defending a castle (I can't give away all my secrets!), etc. As well as different A&S crafts, including whipcording, Heraldry and more. I'm staying away from Coloring sheets, foam crowns, puppets and board games. -

Tue, October 9, 2007 - 5:28 AMAlso remember that kids learn better by song. Maybe a singing circle later in the day. -

Re: Back to the Topic ;o)
Sun, February 3, 2008 - 10:08 PMThe Kingdom MOY and our Youth Marshals have said that no Martial activities for anyone under Division I ages. So, no Toddler Tourney. I'm going to try for some Pell exercises, but I can't promise anything at this point.
The Event Date is currently set for October 11, 2008 at Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church in Howell, MI. (A Short distance from the site of the Balloonfest Demo, if you've ever attended that). More info can be found at www.scakids.org
