per denisey and bloke.
before i was aunt bea i was 'h.' i changed my avatar and name pretty frequently, about once a week. then one week for some reason i was aunt bea....someone i had always admired. i think it was 'who do you want to be when you grow up?' week. anyway, when i was aunt bea, she took over. she was so sassy to everyone. then someone (you all know who you are) took over the tribe that is now ask aunt bea. and so i stayed aunt bea. i like being her. lots of people think that this profile is an alt, but it is my main profile and if you meet me in real life,,,,lots of tribers have....you will find me to be just like this, only moreso. my avatar and name are usually always aunt bea..something now, but still, when i wear my original aunt bea avatar, i am more sassy than at other times.
so we all await denisey's new and improved queen avatar.

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 11:05 AMI can't really remember how it happened.............when I first came to tribe I was heathrose and then decided to go by my real name - and have kept it ever since and then I think there was a thread or I was pming with someone and I discussed how I loved Wonder Woman and how when I was 12 years old I had a Wonder Woman swim suit (regretfully, there are no photos.........that I have possession of). So, it just went from there and I was Wonder Woman..........and now I like to decorate her much like Aunt Bea decorates herself. Aunt Bea is a bit of an inspiration for me.........love her! I'm sure that I am Wonder Woman because of a few pirattes who I also adore and inspire me every day. -

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 11:19 AMwell, I just changed mine again ;) I'm a Red Diva now, lots of singing going on...
My name stays the same...originally I was "Best Friends Girl" but I shortened it to BFG months and months ago. The avatars themselves change fairly often and are usually reflecting something going on in my life, or sometimes the season or closest holiday. I don't know how to decorate them though, that might be fun ! -

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 1:10 PMI change my avatar on a whim. If I'm thinking of a certain thing, or it's a Holiday, or I just want a more current me, or a more accurate me at tha moment, or whatever. I've never changed my handle, though, since I first joined Tribe, so I figure that people know who I am : ). The only time that I have avatar issues is if someone posts the SAME avatar pic as someone else, 'cause the my brain gets confuzzled, but hey, it all comes out in the wash, right?

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 2:25 PMYou're right, Craig - that is a little bizarre.
(((aunt bea))) Great thread : )
When I first signed up on tribe I used the Hawaiian version of my name (Keniki), but it really confused my friends, and my avatar photo didn't really help, since it was me with my face popping out of a pineapple - couldn't really see me. So after about a half dozen PMs saying "what's with the name, Nisey?" I decided to change it. I changed my avatar for seasonal stuff, or to honor a fallen hero. I found the pic of Queen Victoria when I was gearing up for the Dickens Fair last year. I had started a tribe for Dickens 'snobs' and since I prefer my snobbery with a lowercase 's', I decided that Queen Vic on a cell phone was the perfect way to 'thumb my nose' at the snobbery (and myself - there is always more to learn, you don't have to be nasty about <wink>). I had every intention of changing the avatar out after fair had closed for the season, but then we started having trouble with the image servers, so I decided I would wait it out until they were fixed. Then I saw that hell was freezing over, so I gave it a shot.
I'm digging the crown now. In the future, I think I'll do a rotation of The Crown Jewels for a while, but the parade of Dutch Queens will start tomorrow and continue for the month.

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 2:53 PMThe only thing I've noticed about avatars, the hit rate goes way up when I use the photo of a sexy lady.
This one people.tribe.net/jin/photo...9ba115d65b
got me about 50 clicks over the St Paddy's weekend. Guess the name Jin is a little ambiguous, if it were John with a photo of a hottie, the result could be a little different...

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 9:18 PMI find I get psychologically effected by rapidly changing avatars. It helps of course if the person with a frequently changing avatar keeps the same name so I don't get lost completely. But I do feel most comfortable with avatars that change less often. I have grown to appreciate those who change their avatars more often but come back to ones they've used before, though. This gives me a more complete view of how they want to appear to others on Tribe.
I've kept my name since the beginning. It's my actual name. Sometimes I have a picture of my face, sometimes it's of me where it's hard to see my face. I might branch out to something that isn't even me, eventually. I change my avatar seldom, and when I do I think I might return to the old avatar at some point in the future, but once I've changed away from a familiar avatar it then seems old and I have not returned to one yet. I like the avatar I have now because of the light that seems to come through it, since the photo was taken pointing straight up at the sky. I may not change it for awhile. -

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 9:31 PMsee, i don't get that
to me changing avatars are like changing clothes.
who wears the same thing every day?
those of us who change avatars frequently don't do it to confuse people.
it's just a form of expression. -

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?

Tue, April 1, 2008 - 9:26 AM>>>and I like to dress for whatever I'm doing . Or feeling.
I've had the same clothes on since signing up.
Had a friend tell me it would greatly disturb them if I were to change it now.
I did change it for one day when there was some deal in a tribe where everyone dared each other to use their real face as their avatar.
My hits didn't go up. -

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 4:50 PMTo each his own. I can see why some would want to change avatars frequently, like clothes. But when I see my friends, co-workers and acquaintances I see their face as well as their clothes, and so there is some constancy. It's just harder for me to get a grasp on some people who change their avatars almost daily. Maybe if I clicked on their profile every time the new avatar showed up to see what it was actually a picture of it would make more sense to me.
Fortunately in the case of the two of you your names are like no others, and so I am not so confused by your avatar changes as some. -

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 12:05 AMI keep it to a smallish list of avatars. They're something between "mood" and "whim". -

Re: what are the psychological effects of avatars?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 12:22 AMmeh. i don't change my name. i'm always dave, just like in real life. i could change that name, but it wouldn't mean anything. for the exact same reasoning, if i ever decide i do want to change the name, i will.
the avatar i change now & then. i haven't lately because i have other things on my mind, & it's just soooooooooooo much work...
