Today is July 4th, the day that the United States celebrates its establishment. In other words, we won out over British power and became a separate nation, no longer a part of the Colonies.
Just a friendly dig. I can't help myself.
There have been many changes throughout our history, so we're pretty much friends and allies now. But some of us never forget the early story.

Sat, July 4, 2009 - 1:37 PMI would wonder about their motives. Are they trying to take over? Or do they feel there is more opportunity and a better way of life here?

Mon, July 6, 2009 - 7:23 PMMy wonderful husband (of one year next weekend) is a Brit. We were camping on the 4th of July at Crater Lake. I couldn't help but raz him a bit. Whenever he left our camp to use the restroom (or whatever) as he was walking back toward our site, I would scream...The British are coming...the British are coming! He became very popular in our loop at the campground! -

Re: To all of our British friends......
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 7:08 AMThe Brits would typically say loo or WC or just toilet. They don't have the aversion to those words that we Americans have. I tried to explain it once. We just don't want to think about what you're doing in there, so we call it the restroom, bathroom, ladies/mens room, powder room, whatever.
During one of my first trips to Europe, I was at a pub and asked for directions to the bathroom. A British guy was particularly amused and asked why I would want to take a bath at a pub. He then told me that the toilet was down the hall to the left.
