I have blogged about recent harassment issues and feel it may be of use for some discussion here as well people.tribe.net/sarah_inc...2bcf1f40ed

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:01 AMWell typed out, Sarah!!
I understand that harrasement can be a very serious issue. But I also think too many people are shouting harrasement at an alarming rate. Everybody can't be being harrassed. Maybe they are using the word to lightly?
I've said it before... I am on tribe for entertainment purposes only. -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:09 AM"harassment" is a serious allegation..................people really need to take a breath before instantly assuming that the issue is harassment........I tend to think that it's more an issue of being "bothered". I agree totally with Sarah........more of us really need to "not feed the trolls" - it's the easiest thing to do.

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:07 AMI predict the Sun will rise tomorrow, regardless of what people post.
But by virtue of being even older and grumpier than you, I'll point out that different people have different requirements than you or I do. I would not presume to advocate supplanting them with mine. -

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:13 AMyes, but Sarah is right.. it seems to be trickling into EVERY tribe.
I remember when I would log onto tribe at work and I would have to refrain from bursting out laughing from all the witty funny posts I read. I feel like tribe is losing that. The negativness has somehow been pushed through the negative lovers tribes and into all tribes.
It's time to go back to being fun again... I mean truely, that is what kept people here, and encouraged others to join, right? -

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:16 AMOf course.

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 12:14 PMMy grandfather once said to my grandmother: "You aren't old, dear. Crotchety, insane, cruel, and haggard from a life of fruitless moil, but you've got a good twenty years left, surely." (nearly verbatim.) This was in 1976 or so; he's dead and she had a swinging birthday party at the methodist church in Peoria this past summer. At this event, a friend of hers asked, "Do you miss (him)?" to which my sweet gramma replied without hesitation, "Since we're in church, I guess I'd better say 'yes' ". Still sharp as a hollow-ground tack, that woman - and every bit as gentle.

Mon, March 3, 2008 - 12:33 PMMONTH: REDEEMED.
Thank the birches, too: my lawyer says we absolutely cannot afford another double-reverse-anti-un-trolling litigation. I'm pretty delicate, anyway. -

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 2:05 PMActually, it is about time someone put it out there that way. Well done Sarah.:) I also agree. Everywhere I look, someone is at it. So I hit the fun posts and leave it at that.:) I will say something though if it enters my tribes. -

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 5:16 AMNincompoop question here.. what is "cracklin"??
it sounds yummy! -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 5:22 AMWell Jin, you may die sooner through poor diet but those years at the end of your life are usually crap anyway ...
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 5:29 AMCracklin is a kind of biscuit made from hog skin and fat. -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 5:37 AMeek.. nevermind!
LOL -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 5:42 AMIt tastes pretty innocuous, really. -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 5:55 AMthat's cracklin bread...cracklins / cracklings are usualy fried bits of fat with bits of skin attacked. Cracklin bread is cornbread with cracklins in it. At least that's how I was introduced to it - one of my numerous stepmothers was Southern ;)
(of course, Aussies are crazy, and Jin could be talking about Pop Rocks) -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 6:41 AMIn GA there's no apparent difference; the terms are used interchangeably to denote "that stuff only small children and old people will dare to eat" -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 6:46 AMIf it was bread, I'd go for it... it's the whole skin part that is wigging me!! LOL
if it's pop rocks.. well hell, I'm all over those!!!!

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 6:52 AMWait, wait... so is it like fatback? -

-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 7:20 AMSort of more like fatback-scraps about which someone pondered, "How to make this edible? I know: cook the hell out of it, and uhhhhhhh hmmmmm uhhhhh oh look: swathes of pig epidermis! THAT'll yum this thing up!" chop chop chop sizzle -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 7:27 AMHmm. Well, alls I know is, my gramma used to toss a pile of fried fatback and hushpuppies on the table every blessed night when i was a yung'un. No cracklin, though. Just thick, melty-chewy, salty, crisp-rinded fatback.
And a mess of collards. Cause it's important to eat your greens.

I think I need some kind of greasy pork product for breaky, now! -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 8:59 AMI used to love to eat the little crunchy bits of salt pork left after my aunt would try it out (render) it for whatever she was cooking...haven't had it in years though. -
-
Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 9:02 AM<that stuff only small children and old people will dare to eat>

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 10:21 AMThat's it..........gotta go make bacon now. And may I say for the record that all threads in tribe should always end up in a conversation about bacon. Actually, I think I saw it in the TOU somewhere. -

Re: Ahem, possibly controversial ...
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 2:19 PMFor clarity I have to point out that fatback is delicious and pretty much perfect. Cracklins have never tasted like much of anything to me. It's like the taste just cancels itself out or something. First time I had them, I think was about 7 or so, I thought, "this isn't fair".
I was expecting rind-flavor. Rinds are great. Cracklins just.... don't have a taste, really. Not like you're thinking. -
-
