If we are attempting to influence the behaviour of others then who or what influences our behaviour? This is not meant to be a philosophical or theological discussion but an ‘off the top of your head’ or a’ knee jerk’ reaction to the same questions we are asking. Could the behaviours of the people who concern us the most be of a similar quality?
Off the top of my head I can honestly say my family influences me the most. They are always there for me when I need them the most and they tolerate lots of rubbish from me as well as appreciate the good things. Without my family I could not put my best foot forward in the public arena and come to think about it… without me, they would be a bit lost too.
So, whom do you appreciate and why and for what reason do you receive appreciation in return?

Re: Who or what is your role model?
Sat, September 2, 2006 - 9:18 AMI once had role models who taught me great meanings in life...Family ofcorse influenced me with inherited traits, but there were friends, close ones that could have been as near to me as a mother. The older ones were like grandparents I never knew...Wow! I had so many! But, as time passes they are no more.....I know they are out there somewhere still watching....
Now that I am an "older one" with fewer role models to help out, I find that my position in life has changed to one of a "role model"...if anyone would listen :-) There are many younger who give me pause for admiration and happiness. All the beautiful dancers here on Tribe - young and old- have caused me to get up and keep dancing in my own way...
I greatly appreciate all who have something to share. -

Re: Who or what is your role model?
Sat, September 2, 2006 - 4:40 PMI think the secret might be to learn to have an open heart even if sometimes that means feeling vulnerable. I think it is good to learn from younger and older people and to be aware of peers. Look at what is happening and choose courses of action that are appropriate given that we are working to synchronize our whole true selves. Now all we need is for the heart and minds of recognised decision makers to start working… lol. -

Re: Who or what is your role model?
Sun, September 3, 2006 - 6:52 PMMy Grandmother was my first role model. She was a stout German frau and full of love. She was a master gardener and grew the most beautiful roses in Medford. She was also a master Tree grafter. She grafted an apple tree to get 6 types of apples off of it. She and my grandfather homesteaded on Snowshoe Mesa outside Paonia Colorado and they made their mark in the orchard business in that town. The trees they planted in 1908 are still producing apples. My grandmother taught me unconditional love and I am looking forward to being held in her arms again! -

Re: Who or what is your role model?
Sun, September 3, 2006 - 7:23 PMWell Jamilla, I hope that is not for some time. We have a dance to choreograph together and I am not planning to travel that far for that. Your grandmother must have been a very smart lady. Thank you for that story. It’s inspiring.
