I've been keeping a written practice journal but I'll post here as well.
This morning was 30 min of yoga, sun salutations, mountain pose, downward facing dog, cobra (lying and standing), scorpion, bridge, warrior and triangle.
Then drills focusing on isolation, 50 of each... single time shimmies using glutes, locks up and down, undulations up and down. Then slow work on arms focusing on keeping shoulders engaged and strong (I tend to slouch them forward).
Then just full out fun dancing to songs I'm working on for Phantasma Inamorato and Tribal Fest!

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 9:19 AMI looked at my written journal and realized that I have danced every freakin day since last Tuesday. And add to that alternating weights and treadmill.
Last night I was a bit chilly so broke out the yoga mat and did various poses to get the blood flowing. Seeing as how I felt looser I decided to do some drills on level changes and shimmies...this then progressed to dancing. I wound up putting in a 45 minute session before dinner!
I'm seeing some huge differences in my hip movements and flexibility overall. Also my glute squeezes when sitting on the floor are getting better and I can do them for longer periods of time.
Hubby said that he saw a big difference in how my posture and movement looked from early last week to this week. Talk about motivating! wheeee -

Mon, January 8, 2007 - 10:52 AMSee, this is what I love about bellydance... you -see- yourself improving, and not only do you know you're getting better, you look so lovely. Riding a stationary bike never did that for me. -

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, January 9, 2007 - 8:40 AMExactly!
And my glutes never hurt like this before they met up with Suhalia's DVD's. lol
I think that finally I've gotten my hips to wake up, good thing because my upcoming sets are gonna need them! -

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, January 9, 2007 - 1:37 PMI only have her 'buns' bellydance fusion one so I can't speak for the others...but its good. Not easy and makes you hurt in places you didn't know existed. But the difference in the shimmies is amazing! -

Thu, February 22, 2007 - 11:20 AMI kicked my own ass for about an hour this morning. Yoga, drills and put 'Esther's' on repeat and went through it about 5-6 times. -

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 11:38 AMToday I broke out the index cards and played 'make a combo'.
Had some fun with reach & sit-bellyroll down-snakearms as well as chest lifts-rib circles-mya.
I also did about 30 min of yoga. -

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 12:19 PMThat sounds interesting.... how did it look? -
-
Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 3:30 PMIt came out pretty darn cool looking. Hard at first to get things to flow and layer but I'll keep picking away at them. The reach&sit with the downward bellyroll and snake arms would be a cool tribal combo. -

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 3:42 PMI was planning on coming back up the hill from work, picking them up and having Tony's sister watch them. Then I figure we'll be back up to my place around their bedtime.
Do H and M want to come down to the studio? They are always welcome to just hang at my house if they don't wanna come all the way down. -
-
Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 3:44 PMI think they were planning on going.... That will solely depend on how H's meeting with M's teachers goes.
Can I let you know either later tonight or in the AM? -

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 3:51 PMThat works! T is going to make sure his sister is going to be home in time tomorrow night. He's headed out of town again early tomorrow morning and the sitter I had a lead on has never called me back! grrrr
While practice at home is good, I need some class time where someone can see if I'm doing something wrong. I've started getting the hands under control and the shoulders back and down. But I can always use extra sets of eyes! -

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal

Re: Cymbeline's Practice Journal
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 12:00 PMWow its been a while since I've updated in here!
Been working on ATS movements and slow work to focus on the muscles working the right way. Zills are coming along really well and I had some fun this past weekend doing improv to a drum circle and guy playing guitar.
Also been working with my sword and learned some fun things from friends who do fire staff & martial art weapon stuff. Its so much more than just balancing it on one's body parts. :D
