Cymbeline's Practice Journal

topic posted Tue, January 2, 2007 - 11:25 AM by  NanSee
I've been keeping a written practice journal but I'll post here as well.

This morning was 30 min of yoga, sun salutations, mountain pose, downward facing dog, cobra (lying and standing), scorpion, bridge, warrior and triangle.

Then drills focusing on isolation, 50 of each... single time shimmies using glutes, locks up and down, undulations up and down. Then slow work on arms focusing on keeping shoulders engaged and strong (I tend to slouch them forward).

Then just full out fun dancing to songs I'm working on for Phantasma Inamorato and Tribal Fest!

I looked at my written journal and realized that I have danced every freakin day since last Tuesday. And add to that alternating weights and treadmill.

Last night I was a bit chilly so broke out the yoga mat and did various poses to get the blood flowing. Seeing as how I felt looser I decided to do some drills on level changes and shimmies...this then progressed to dancing. I wound up putting in a 45 minute session before dinner!

I'm seeing some huge differences in my hip movements and flexibility overall. Also my glute squeezes when sitting on the floor are getting better and I can do them for longer periods of time.

Hubby said that he saw a big difference in how my posture and movement looked from early last week to this week. Talk about motivating! wheeee

See, this is what I love about bellydance... you -see- yourself improving, and not only do you know you're getting better, you look so lovely. Riding a stationary bike never did that for me.

          Exactly!

And my glutes never hurt like this before they met up with Suhalia's DVD's. lol

I think that finally I've gotten my hips to wake up, good thing because my upcoming sets are gonna need them!

Wow its been a while since I've updated in here!

Been working on ATS movements and slow work to focus on the muscles working the right way. Zills are coming along really well and I had some fun this past weekend doing improv to a drum circle and guy playing guitar.

Also been working with my sword and learned some fun things from friends who do fire staff & martial art weapon stuff. Its so much more than just balancing it on one's body parts. :D
