Erica's Practice Journal

Whenever I try to practice I do random stuff without any focus. Which is alot better than nothing but tonight I'm going to find a CD and practice one move for each entire song.

Oooohhh that's a good one {nice to see you btw}.. Bo had a great suggestion of making flash cards... where each card holds a single move or fixed combination. Where you pull one out of the pile (or more) for your drill work.

And then you pull out three, and they're all step patterns, and you try to do them anyway! And then you fall over!

No, seriously, I love my flashcards. They always get me going.

Been getting bits of practice in throughout my days. Never did get around to doing a move a song but have been going to the Fusion class and tonight I'm doing the Tribal. Other classes can count as practice, right?

All your classes count as practice. It doesn't matter if it is belly dance, tap, jazz, ballet, hula.... anything... dance related (except shopping and sewing, unless you learned how to layer dance stuff) counts as practice.

So does, sitting and standing in conscious dance posture. No slouching and all that. Since, it is one of the most important.. Bad posture will make even the best dancer look bad.

Last night I did do some slow tribal in class but was very uncomfortable being the leader. I'm going to do it more though because I'd like to do more than the Into class piece in the June show.

    Baby steps.

If you come to tribal class every week before the show you'll be good to go. You only have to lead for like a min for a show, like two combos if that and your good. Just focus on what you need to feel better about the moves. You'll do great.

Did some actual yoga this morning. I keep hearing dancers rave about how it helps them dance better. I don't know if my awkward sun salutations help but what the hell, yoga never hurt anyone.

I find that it has really improved my posture and it is slooooowly increasing my flexibility. I also notice that when I do yoga in the morning, I'm simply in a better mood for the rest of the day. Enjoy.

I did my Ariellah DVD tonight, well the drills anyway. It's the first DVD that felt like class, which helped. I'm going to do this one every night I don't have class.

Video is the most constructive criticism.
I seldom ask for criticism, because I can usually tell what I need to work on, I don't give criticism because dancing has to be painfully bad for me not to like it.
Today I watched the dvd of last years Summer Show.
I sucked and I HOPE my dancing has improved since then, waiting to watch this last spring show for a comparisan
Blood Moon didn't look too bad.

Tonight I'm giving the Intermediate Tribal a shot. Even if I'm not ready, if I stay in begiining I'll forget what I just learned because they're starting over and I won't have a chance to practice.
