( Ozark bioregion) In the realm of ground covers are either strawberries or violets detrimental to the soil? Either possibly nitrogen fixing? Any benefits ,other than dense cover for weed blockage?

I like to candy them (egg white + superfine sugar) every winter as gifts for my cake-making friends!
and how timely a post SUNDOG as just this past weekend I was noticing the rain-renewed battle of these very two groundcovers near my living dogwood couch...mmmsweet berries and flowers! that corner seems healthy to me and I'm not sure either of these plants I would consider detrimental to the soil where they are growing. they are not so dense as to prevent other plants from invading though.

Mon, November 10, 2008 - 4:44 AMNeither strawberries or violets are bad for soil or nitrogen fixing to my knowledge, and i can find no evidence saying that they are online after a quick search. I am not 100% positive about this, but pretty sure. The chief benefit, imo, is that they hold the soil together and protect it from erosion. -
