The fact that people keep posting only to negative threads, and the lack of other threads here, is really upsetting to me.
I definitely don't get excited when I see there are new posts on this tribe anymore, as I know it will more than likely be
Benjamin's thread on the top of the page.
I am just got off of a Permie farm from the past year and am now focusing on other things. If only I were able to have some vicarious permie experiences!!!
What is eveyone doing? Even ordinary permie things or small projects are uplifting to hear about. I am living in a small house where we are setting up a worm bin, a small garden area, and an herb spiral. I realize these aren't huge things, but doing even the small stuff sure is nice. Once it cools down, maybe we can make the bicycle powered washer that drains into the three bathtub bioremediation tanks that I have always wanted!!!
SO, what's up?

Re: Finally, a new thread!
Fri, July 17, 2009 - 8:41 PMThanks for the place for positive input. My garden is doing very well. We're picking red chiles, roma tomatoes, green beans and purple hull peas. Yesterday my daughter and I built a fence across the back of our property to keep the hoodlums at bay, or at least slow them down.
We've been on this land for 3 years and I'm pleased with the progress. The beneficial critters have returned. Fireflies, praying mantis and toads are happily moving in. We've also seen many more honey bees this year which encourages me. We have some volunteer wildflowers that weren't here last year. We've started on the rainwater cachement system. I'm hoping to get it finished this month.
There's still a lot to do. A big pile of old wood and debris remains to be burned if we ever get a still day.

Sun, July 26, 2009 - 4:41 PMI'm happy to find this positive attitude... again, after a long time.
A friend of a friend recently sent me the URL for a new on-line forum (whole bunch of forums at one site) about "homesteading" Site is attracting more people. I'll prolly join soon.
It's pretty much related to Permaculture. At the scale of a piece of land bigger than a yard.
Here's the addy. I recommend checking it out.

Glad you liked it, Greg. Sharing sites like that one is a pleasure!
The forums are really beginning to roll. The link I gave was for the forums, They also have an on-line magazine called The Rural Independent, with a lot of useful stuff.

Re: Finally, a new thread!
Mon, July 27, 2009 - 8:37 AMJust got back in the US after spending a month on an organic farm tour. Seeing first hand, stacked agriculture, reforesting, building with on-site sourced materials, rain/gray/black water processing, and of course eating all that organic food has been an incredible learning experiance and have left me with an even greater thirst for more!
