Verzicht auf Luxus zum Wohl der Natur, Ressourcennutzung unter dem Aspekt der Nachhaltigkeit - ein Weg zurück zur Natur und zur Unabhängigkeit: Anna-Theresia Schmidt und Christian Sven Schembritzki erproben im sächsischen Schweta ein ganzheitliches biologisches und ökologisches Lebenskonzept. vivo-Reporter Gregor Steinbrenner war für zwei Tage zu Gast auf dem Hof.

Ihre Lebensart möchten die Eigentümer der Drachenmühle an andere weitergeben. Sie haben eine offene Tür für Handwerker auf der Walz, vergeben Plätze für ein freiwilliges ökologisches Jahr und freuen sich über jeden Besucher, der sich für ein Leben mit und in der Natur interessiert. Übernachtungsgäste zahlen für eine Schlafgelegenheit, Strom und Verpflegung circa acht Euro am Tag. Mitzubringen sind eine mit Akkus betriebene Taschenlampe, Hausschuhe, Schlafsack und ein Taschenmesser. Dagegen dürfen keine Kosmetika mit chemischen Zusatzstoffen wie Haarspray, Haarwaschmittel oder Silicon Duschgel benutzt werden. So musste auch vivo-Reporter Gregor Steinbrenner bei seinem zweitägigen Besuch auf seine eigene Zahnpasta verzichten und auf eine ayurvedische Heilerde-Zahnpasta umsteigen. Hunde sind auch nicht erlaubt.

Die Drachenmühle liegt zwischen Dresden und Leipzig. Sie ist mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zu erreichen. Mit der Bahn fährt man bis Oschatz, und steigt dann um in den Bus oder die alte Dampflock "Wilder Robert" bis zur Station Schweta Gasthaus. Von dort geht es zu Fuß den Weg entlang der Gleise zurück, Richtung Norden. An der 90 Grad Kurve am Ortsausgang gibt es ein Hinweisschild zur Drachenmühle

Auszeichnung von 50 Offiziellen Projekten der UN-Dekade „Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ in Hannover

Beim fünften Runden Tisch der UN-Dekade „Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ in Hannover werden am 26. November 2008 50 Offizielle Dekade-Projekte vom deutschen Nationalkomitee der UN-Dekade ausgezeichnet. Sie stehen beispielhaft für eine innovative und breitenwirksame Umsetzung der Dekade. Ihre Auszeichnung soll dazu beitragen, die Anliegen der Dekade flächendeckend in Deutschland sichtbar zu machen. Die Stadt Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz wird bereits zum zweiten Mal als Stadt der UN-Dekade geehrt.

Ziel der UN-Dekade „Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ ist die Verankerung des Gedankens einer ökonomisch, ökologisch und sozial zukunftsfähigen Entwicklung der Weltgesellschaft in allen Bereichen des Bildungssystems. Nachhaltigkeit lernen soll für jeden Einzelnen im Bildungswesen zu einer Selbstverständlichkeit werden. Die vom Nationalkomitee ausgezeichneten Projekte leisten hierzu einen entscheidenden Beitrag und werden mit dem Titel „Offizielles Projekt der Weltdekade“ geehrt.

Eine der wichtigsten Strategien zur Umsetzung der Dekade ist die Unterstützung der einzelnen Akteure der Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung vor Ort. Nachhaltigkeit – so wurde nicht zuletzt bei den großen Weltkonferenzen in Rio de Janeiro und Johannesburg deutlich – lässt sich nur dezentral realisieren. Die Anerkennung Offizieller Dekade-Projekte stellt diesen Gedanken in den Mittelpunkt. Anerkannte Dekade-Projekte erhalten das Recht, für zwei Jahre das Logo der Dekade zu führen. Das Nationalkomitee wird die Projekte national und international als deutschen Beitrag präsentieren.

Nach den vom Nationalkomitee formulierten Auswahlkriterien sollte ein anerkanntes Dekade- Projekt:

-innovativen Charakter haben,
-in die Breite wirken,
-bestimmten Qualitätsstandards entsprechen,
-mindestens zwei Dimensionen der Nachhaltigkeit abdecken,
-sich um Vernetzung mit anderen Projekten bemühen,
-das bloße Planungsstadium deutlich überschritten haben.

Auch Städte, Gemeinden und Landkreise können eine Auszeichnung erhalten. Für überragendes Engagement im Bereich der Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung erhalten Sie die Auszeichnung als Stadt bzw. Kommune der UN-Dekade. Beim Runden Tisch in Hannover erhält die Stadt Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz bereits die zweite Auszeichnung.

Nach zwei Jahren ist sowohl für Projekte als auch Kommunen eine Wiederbewerbung möglich. Fünf Projekte erhalten in Hannover bereits ihre dritte Auszeichnung. Die UN-Dekade „Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ umfasst in den Jahren 2005 bis 2014 eine Vielzahl von Aktionen und Initiativen: Seit dem Beginn der Dekade wurden bereits über 750 Offizielle Dekade-Projekte ausgezeichnet. Für die Koordinierung sind in Deutschland die Deutsche UNESCO-Kommission und das von ihr berufene Nationalkomitee zuständig. Zusammen mit zahlreichen Akteuren hat das Nationalkomitee einen Aktionsplan erarbeitet, in dem die wichtigsten Ziele und programmatischen Vorhaben für die Umsetzung der Dekade in Deutschland festgehalten sind.

Was ist ein Biomeiler?

Ein Biomeiler ist eine sehr direkte, und dadurch effektive Möglichkeit dezentral Wärme/Energie zu gewinnen:
Man kompostiert Grünholzhäcksel auf einem sehr großen Haufen, dem sogenennte Meiler, und nutzt die Verrottungswärme (über 60°C), in dem man sie durch ein im Haufen verlegtes Wasserrohr ableitet. Ausserdem kann man durch die gleichmäßige Temperatur in einem Behälter im Innern des Meilers einfach Biogas erzeugen. Am Ende bleibt allerbester Kompost mit effektiven Migroorganismen ...

Die Naturinsel ist natürlich & ökologisch sicher für Kinder, Tiere und alle anderen Lebewesen!

Kurze Geschichte zur Mühle und zur Bioregion:
Die Mühle, wie sie heute steht, ist ca. 1839 aus Feldstein und Schiefer wieder aufgebaut,
was davor lag ist ein verschleiertes sich lüftendes Geheimnis. Etwas entfernt im Wald:
Der Collmvulkan mit seinen 700.000.000 Jahren, min. 5000 Jahre alte Hügelgräber & Opfersteine,
einem Wüsten Schloss , Thinglinde mit ca. 1200 Jahren … und einem ca. 100.000 - 200.000 Jahre
alten Faustkeil (Fundort : hinter der Mühle, im Norden), der Faustkeil liegt nun in Dresden im Museum!
Die Naturinsel Drachenmühle befindet sich auf einer Endmoräne der Eiszeit.

Auenland und Auenwald: Die Drachenmühlen Insel liegt umgeben von Auen, Erlen, Eschen, riesige Eichen,
Wassergräben, angrenzend an ein Naturschutzgebiet für Frühjahresblüher und mitten im FFH
(Flora und Fauna Habitat) Gebiet der europäischen Union!

Wasser : ca. 13 Wasser Quelltöpfe teils im ca. 2 Km Mühlgrabensystem.

Hofstelle: Mühlen und Herrschaftshaus unter Denkmalschutz, Kornspeicher,
Gewölbestallungen und Scheune, großes Backhaus

Nebengelasse: Bienenhaus, & ein malerisches Hühnerhaus ehemals Dampfbad.

Permakultur ist ein Weg, nachhaltige Lebensräume und Systeme zu unterstützen, zu entwerfen und aufzubauen.

Der Begriff Permakultur diente ursprünglich zur Beschreibung einer dauerhaften Landwirtschaft,
(abgeleitet von „permanent agriculture“), die sich am Vorbild eines vielfältigen Ökosystems orientiert.
Diese werden der Natur und dem Menschen dauerhafte Lebensgrundlagen sichern helfen
- ökologisch, sozial und ökonomisch.

Auf Grundlage langfristiger Beobachtungen von Pflanzen, Tieren und anderen Elementen in allen ihren Funktionen, Einsatz von altem und neuem Wissen, werden Modelle entwickelt, wie sich lebendige Systeme selbst erhalten und regenerieren können.

Die Lebensweise in den Industrieländern ist durch hohen Konsum, hohe Ressourcennutzung, hohen Energieverbrauch, hohes Verkehrsaufkommen und hohe - teilweise giftige - Abfallmengen geprägt. Das Prinzip der nachhaltigen Entwicklung stellt die engen Beziehungen, die zwischen Lebensstil, Umweltqualität und einer gerechten Verteilung der Ressourcen bestehen, in den Vordergrund.

Eine Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung muss daher an den derzeitigen Lebensstilen unserer Gesellschaft anknüpfen. Querschnittsthemen wie Fragen des Klimawandels, des Umgangs mit der Ressource Wasser, oder auch Energiefragen sind in diesem Zusammenhang genauso relevant wie die Frage nach einer inter- und intragenerationellen Gerechtigkeit. Bei diesem umfassenden politischen und pädagogischen Bildungskonzept geht es daher nicht in erster Linie darum, die damit verbundenen komplexen Themenbereiche nur auf der Wissensebene zu vermitteln. Das Ziel der Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung ist es, dem Einzelnen Fähigkeiten mit auf den Weg zu geben, die es ihm ermöglichen, aktiv und eigenverantwortlich die Zukunft mit zu gestalten. In diesem Zusammenhang spielen ebenso emotionale wie auch handlungsbezogene Komponenten der Bildung eine entscheidende Rolle.

Komponenten einer Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung, die gestaltungskompetentes Entscheiden und Handeln ausmachen, sind:

And thats how it started, we remember :
In summer 1999, at the European Rainbow Gathering in Hungary, our dream of a holy Dragonplace started,
that became what we now call her Dragonmill. We were searching whole Europe ...
even to Sri Lanka ... Schweden ...for 3 years until finaly the dream became truth.
At October the 30th 2003 a handshake made the deal perfekt, lol !
to buy the old Mill of Schweta, in todays Saxony.

The Dragonmill, a place like from anciend times … as the Dragonmill-Island is surroundet by folldplains, alders, ditches,
smalls creeks …, fields and woods ...
a tumulus and just across the ditch in direct neighbourship there is a protected area for spring- blossoms- flowers.
Since 2007 the Nature Island of her Dragonmill is in the middle on " FFH " (Flora and Fauna Habitat) area of the European Union.
For the preservation and further cross-linking of passages (Wolf) and habitation areas for Flora and Fauna in whole Europe!
This is becomming a new big task, and a lot of local engagament is needed ...
A bit further in our bio region … the more than 700.000.000 years old Collm-vulcano, hill graves, stone circles,
and a „Dragon“-limetree aged more than 1200 years …
... the Mill its self, like it stands now was rebuild approx.. 1849 from boulders and slate ...
what was before it is a secret showing up slowly... the first proofs of humans here date back approx ... 150.000 to 200,000 years.
This was an stone axe, found just behind her Mill and is now in Dresden in a Museum,
besides this there were finds from the entire history of last thousands of years.
A acient historical important place next to the Collmvulcan and the Elbe! Schweta!

To the property of the Monument-Protected Mill still belong
a big nice old baking house, granary, barn, vault stables, beehive and a picturesque chicken house!
All the buildings are settled around a paved and from herbs covered court !
To the property belong up to now: 5 hectars divided in: Yard and buildings, grassland, fruit meadow,
forest (with a tumulus) and the system of ditches and streams for her Dragonmill.
Our 11 goats and 6 sheep help us with the extensive landscape conservation,
above all they give us fresh milk, wool, and its daily animating Meck Meck Meck, some times also meat and skins.
A smal crowd of ducks and chickens take care of the snails and process our leftovers,
on the compost pile , what brings us also fresh eggs to e.g. bake mmmmh...

The goal of the "Nature Island Dragonmill" and us is it, to create a durable eco place for Workshops & Seminars

Everything horizontal
under the sky belongs to nature.
Everything touched by the rays of the sun,
everywhere where the rain falls is nature's
sacred and inviolable property.
We men are merely nature's guests.

In 1952 I spoke of the civilisation of
make-believe, the one we must
shake off, myself, the first of all!
I spoke of columns of gray men on the march
toward sterility and self-destruction.

The same year I used the term
"transautomation" to show the way beyond
the rationalism of technocrats
toward a new creation
in harmony with the laws of nature.

In 1953 I realised that the straight line
leads to the downfall of mankind.

But the straight line has become
an absolute tyranny.

The straight line is something cowardly
drawn with a rule, without thought or feeling;
it is a line which does not exist in nature.

And that the line is the rotten foundation
of our doomed civilisation.

Even if there are certain places where it is
recognised that this line is rapidly leading to
perdition, its course continues to be plotted.

The straight line is the only sterile line,
the only line which does
not suit man as the image of God.

The straight line is the forbidden fruit.

The straight line is the curse of our civilisation.

Any design undertaken with the straight
line will be stillborn.
Today we are witnessing the triumph
of rationalist knowhow and yet,
at the same time, we find ourselves
confronted with emptiness. An æsthetic void,
desert of uniformity, criminal sterility,
loss of creative power.

Even creativity is prefabricated.

We have become impotent.
We are no longer able to create.
That is our real illiteracy.

Kampagne für Freiheit und Vielfalt der Bildungswege!
Für ein Menschenrecht auf Bildung.

Das Schulwesen in Deutschland ist in der Krise. Immer mehr Familien wollen ihr Recht auf Bildung lieber individuell verwirklichen. Dies ist in ganz Europa und den meisten Demokratien weltweit möglich. Studien aus diesen Ländern belegen den Erfolg einer Bildungspflicht – ohne Schulbesuchspflicht.

In einem freien Bildungswesen sind alle Formen des Lernens gesetzlich möglich, ob in staatlichen oder privaten Schulen, in freien Zusammenschlüssen oder auf individuelle Weise. Die Aufsichtspflicht des Staates bleibt erhalten.

Ein Schulwesen dieser Art entspräche endlich auch der UN-Kinderrechtskonvention, die für Kinder eine Bildungspflicht, keinesfalls den Schulzwang fordert. Die rechtliche Diskriminierung deutscher Kinder im internationalen Vergleich soll endlich entfallen!

Im Sinne der fünf Forderungen der Gesetzesinitiative des Bundesverbands Natürlich Lernen! e.V., BVNL. fordere ich die Verantwortlichen in Justiz und Politik auf, den Artikel 7 des Grundgesetzes der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, entsprechend einem menschengerechten und nachhaltigen Bildungswesen, neu zu gestalten.

Klimawandel und Verlust der Artenvielfalt gehören heute zu den wichtigsten politischen Herausforderungen. Die Europäische Union hat sich zum Schutz des Klimas und zum Erhalt der biologischen Vielfalt hohe Ziele gesetzt und will auch die Agrarförderung stärker daran ausrichten.

Der BUND nimmt in seiner aktuellen Kampagne die bisherige Agrarpolitik mitsamt ihren Gewinnern und Verlieren unter die Lupe. Außerdem porträtiert er vorbildliche Beispiele aus Landwirtschaft, Verarbeitung, Vermarktung und Technik. Sie zeigen, wie Bewahrung der Artenvielfalt, Klima- und Naturschutz, Einkommensstabilität auf den Höfen sowie mehr Arbeitsplätze in ländlichen Regionen miteinander verbunden und in der Praxis erreicht werden können.

Diese erfolgreichen Beispiele führen jedoch auch deutlich vor Augen, dass es einer erheblich höheren Förderung für die ländliche Entwicklung bedarf, um einer möglichst großen Zahl an Betrieben ein Überleben und eine rasche Anpassung an die neuen Herausforderungen zu ermöglichen.

Die zwei Säulen der EU-Agrarpolitik

Die EU-Agrarsubventionen sind mit rund 50 Milliarden Euro jährlich mit Abstand der größte Posten im Europa-Haushalt. Sie gliedern sich in zwei Säulen: Rund 80 Prozent der Gelder werden für die so genannte Marktorganisation ausgegeben, wovon der größte Teil in Form von Direktzahlungen – vor allem flächenbezogen – an die Landwirte fließt. Das ist die Erste Säule. Die restlichen 20 Prozent bilden die Zweite Säule, die ländliche Entwicklung. Dieser viel kleinere Topf finanziert u. a. die Umstellung auf Ökolandbau, Investitionshilfen, Natura-2000-Maßnahmen und Regionalwirtschaft.

Aktuell ist bei der EU-Kommission eine Umschichtung der Agrarbeihilfen zugunsten der Zweiten Säule im Gespräch. Dazu soll bei Direktzahlungs-Empfängern ab 100.000 Euro jährlich gekürzt werden. Doch die Lobby der derzeitigen Subventions-Hauptprofiteure aus Agrar-Großbetrieben und Lebensmittelindustrie wehrt sich erbittert. Der BUND unterstützt dagegen die Umschichtung der Agrarbeihilfen.

Die nächste Runde zur Zukunft der Agrarsubventionen ist für Ende Mai 2008 angekündigt. Dann will die EU-Kommission ihre konkretisierten Pläne dazu auf den Tisch legen.

During these very last sixty seconds man has managed to turn Gaia into a garbage dump,
to exterminate thousands of plant and animal species, to kill an uncountable number of his own kind,
to loot the planet's resources, to pollute soil, air and water and to leave radiating waste for future generations.
Within the next few seconds, all of us will decide whether we are going to make life on Gaia impossible,
or develop a consciousness that allows us a future existence with Gaia.
Lovelock and Margulis named their theory for the earth goddess "Gaia", because Earth and its
atmosphere have the ability to regulate and sustain the necessary conditions for life.

Offener Brief des gemeinnützigen Umweltprojekt`s „Naturinsel Drachenmühle“ an den Herrn Staatsminister für Umwelt und Landwirtschaft Prof. Dr. Roland Wöller, die Herren Landräte Schöpp und Czupalla, den Bürgermeister von Mügeln, Herrn Gotthard Deuse und die Mügelner Stadträte

Bitte um Unterstützung und Vermittlung zur Erhaltung des Landschaftsschutzgebietes Döllnitzaue

Sehr geehrter Herr Staatsminister, sehr geehrte Herren Landräte, sehr geehrter Herr Bürgermeister, sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

wir wenden uns mit einer dringenden Bitte um Unterstützung an Sie. Als gemeinnütziger Verein bewirtschaften wir ein uns gehörendes Grundstück auf einer Insel der Döllnitz im Mügelner Ortsteil Schweta. Wir beachten dabei konsequent ökologische und ganzheitliche Grundsätze und wollen insbesondere die einzigartige Natur in diesem nach § 26 Bundesnaturschutzgesetz (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) und § 26 SächsNatSchG. geschützten Biotops „Döllnitzaue“ bewahren und erlebbar machen.
Ein Großteil dieses Biotops konnte von uns leider nicht erworben werden, sondern gehört der Bundesvermögensverwaltung, die es weiter verpachtet hat an die Agrargenossenschaft Naundorf-Niedergoseln eG.

Leider haben wir mit dem Vorstand der Agrargenossenschaft in der Vergangenheit keine gemeinsame Sprache finden können, weshalb wir uns nun mit der Bitte um Hilfe an Sie wenden:
Eine Teilfläche, von ca 2 Hektar, die als geschütztes Feucht-Biotop, eine seggen- und binsenreiche Nasswiese, einer landwirtschaftlichen Nutzung ohnehin nicht zugänglich ist, liegt uns besonders am Herzen.
Hier leben normalerweise und natürlicherweise die Rohrdommel, Gelbbauchunke, Weihen, Störche und natürlich allerlei Biodiversität!
Diese Flächen werden extrem von Maschinen der Agrargenossenschaft befahren. In diesem Jahr haben wir um dieses Biotop mit vielen Freunden gemeinsam einen lebenden Weidenzaun gepflanzt. Wir haben dabei nicht bedacht, dass das eventuell nicht erlaubt sein könnte oder als Provokation aufgefasst werden könnte. Wir wollten nur ein kleines Stückchen eines ohnehin schon gesetzlich geschützten Biotops zusätzlich sichern und somit die Aufmerksamkeit auf unser natürliches Anliegen lenken.

Bitte helfen Sie uns ganz dringend, diese Sichtweise auch dem Pächter dieser Fläche, der Agrargenossenschaft, nahezubringen. Wir sind bereit diese Fläche selbst zu kaufen oder zu pachten, oder in sonstiger Weise gemeinsam mit der Genossenschaft den Schutz dieser Fläche sicherzustellen. Derzeit droht aber wieder eine Eskalation, weil wir befürchten, dass der wirklich lebende Weidenzaun einfach abgerissen wird und ein gemeinsames Gespräch scheitern könnte.

Wir würden uns freuen, wenn Sie ein Gespräch zwischen den Parteien initiieren, vermitteln und auch begleiten könnten, in dem wir unser Anliegen besprechen und eine Einigung erzielen können.

Pressemitteilung des gemeinnützigen Umwelt-Projekt`s „Naturinsel Drachenmühle“

Hilferuf Mügelner Naturfreunde zur Erhaltung der Biodiversität.

Mügeln O.T. Schweta. Das Umweltprojekt „Naturinsel Drachenmühle“ sorgt sich in Mügeln um den Erhalt des nach § 26 Bundesnaturschutzgesetz (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) und § 26 SächsNatSchG. geschützten Biotops „Döllnitzaue“. Die besagte Fläche beleben normalerweise Rohrdommel, Weihen, Gelbbauchunken und jede Menge Biodiversität (Frösche, Kröten, Libellen, Schmetterlinge …)!
In der Vergangenheit waren hier immer wieder Landmaschinen extrem über die geschützten Feuchtwiesen gefahren und hatten sogar Gülle ausgebracht. Um dies zu verhindern, hatten naturnahe Menschen in den letzten Tagen um eines der Biotope einen lebenden Zaun aus Weiden gepflanzt.

Nun beruft sich die Agrargenossenschaft Naundorf auf einen bestehenden Pachtvertrag und verlangt die Beseitigung des Zaunes.

Mit dem anliegenden offenen Brief rufen die Naturfreunde um Hilfe und Unterstützung um einvernehmlich mit der Agrargenossenschaft das Feucht-Biotop, eine seggen- und binsenreiche Nasswiese, bewahren und schützen zu können.
Wir bitten Sie den offenen Brief, gegebenenfalls als Leserbrief, zu veröffentlichen.

Schutz bestimmter Biotope

(1) Auch ohne Rechtsverordnung oder Einzelanordnung und ohne Eintragung in Verzeichnisse stehen nachfolgende Biotope unter besonderem Schutz:

1.

Moore, Sümpfe, Röhrichte, seggen- und binsenreiche Nasswiesen, Bruch-, Moor-, Sumpf- und Auwälder,

2.

Quellbereiche, natürliche oder naturnahe Bereiche fließender und stehender Binnengewässer einschließlich ihrer Ufer und der dazugehörigen uferbegleitenden natürlichen oder naturnahen Vegetation sowie ihrer natürlichen oder naturnahen Verlandungsbereiche, Altarme und regelmäßig überschwemmten Bereiche,

3.

Trocken- und Halbtrockenrasen, magere Frisch- und Bergwiesen, Borstgrasrasen, Schwermetallrasen, Wacholder-, Ginster- und Zwergstrauchheiden,

4.

Gebüsche und naturnahe Wälder trockenwarmer Standorte einschließlich ihrer Staudensäume, höhlenreiche Altholzinseln und höhlenreiche Einzelbäume, Schlucht-, Blockhalden- und Hangschuttwälder,

"Every minute of every day your body is renewing itself. Humans bodies have about 100 trillion cells. Each day, millions of cells in our bodies die and new ones replace them. The quality of the new cells determines our health in the future. Your cells are affected by the foods you eat, the water you drink, the air you breathe, sunshine and anything that gets into your body through the skin. Exercise, rest, your environment and stress can also affect the quality of these cells and the health and strength of your body.

The frequency at which these cells are replaced differs in various types of bodily tissues. Some tissues regenerate very quickly and some take years. Except for our brain and certain parts of the nervous system, we actually regenerate a new body every seven years. Most of our cells are replaced within that time.

When you were seven years old, you had a very different body from when you were first born. When you were fourteen, you were in another new body. Hormones influenced you and helped you to grow taller and more like a young adult than a child. By the time you were 21 you were in an adult body. This body was totally different from the one you were born with or the one you will have when you are 70 years old.

Just as hormones influence the changes in your body, so does everything else that you do. Foods that you eat are the materials that form the body's building blocks. When you eat an unhealthy food you are affecting more than your waistline. You are having an effect on the health of the new body that you will have seven years from now. Every time you exercise you are increasing your potential for a stronger body in the future. Each time you smoke a cigarette, drink a glass of alcohol or take a harmful drug you are poisoning your body and increasing your chances of developing diseased cells. Excess stress can prevent the cells from forming perfectly. The life force is continually regenerating you and you can directly influence your health and the body that you have in the future. By incorporating certain wellness practices you can get your body to build stronger, healthier cells as it replaces the old ones.

When your body regenerates new cells do you want them to be healthy cells or diseased cells? Your actions can make the difference! You have the power to create illness or health in your own body. With active prevention you take action to encourage your body to be healthy. There are many techniques for this such as proper nutrition, regular exercise, fresh air and sunshine and abstaining from poisons such as alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. Anti-stress techniques such as deep breathing and meditation can also create wellness in your body and can help you to ward off disease."

This topic has been a source of inspiration for me for a long time...
When you look at this information and you look at the fact that you literally are what you eat, then the perception that if one was to move to a new bioregion or ecoregion then one would literally be composed of this ecoregion within a seven year period.
We are composed of our ecoregions and bioregions... our cells are designed by place, even our DNA is composed of the foods we eat.
Eating bioregionaly helps to adapt one to ones bioregion, because you are literally building your body out of it. Feeding your children a bioregional diet also helps with this process...
So much of the foods we eat are from other places this is such an ecologically and socially destructive practice, but it also confuses our very being! One example... Eating local Bee pollen can help one defend against pollen allergies... but only if the Bee pollen is from local bees.
If one only wanted to look at this from a purely metaphorical level, just knowing that you are composed of the foods from the bioregion you live as a part of... just looking at your own body would help remind you that you are one with the land and sky and waters of your land. The actual act of obtaining food bioregionaly to build your body from the land up actually facilitates the maintaining and developing of relationships, which as we all know is the basis of animist ontology.
Eating locally also helps us reconcile our sense of not belong to a place of not being native to place, as well as our sense of loss as to a identity based on regionality, and BEING native to place. If we know that our body is composed of the land helps to foster being native again, just knowing that our cells die and are reborn only to be built from what we put in it, puts a new spin on the word native, which in its most literal definition means to be born of a place... to be of a place, or to be from a place... and if one is eating foods from ones life place and ones cells are deign and being reborn... after seven years of living in a place you are that place... literally!
You really are what you EAT, and if you eat Bioregionaly, go our side look around and say to your self with pride, I AM THAT! I am the land talking and thinking and reading this about its self right now! How wondrous!
The simple act of eating can facilitate a ecological sense of self and identity based on place... to me this breaks down concepts of race, ethnicity, cultural identity and brings it down to the earth...LITERALLY! And is a basis for bioregional animist based identity and cultural.

So become a localvour! Think globally eat locally!

How to build, use and not abuse, a tree bog

Your will need...

* Stuff to build a structure from (perhaps pallets)
* Straw
* Wire netting or similar
* Willow to plant

What you do..

* Build a structure like a conventional dry compost toilet
* Wrap netting around the structure
* Place straw around the base and hold in place with more netting
* Plant willow around the entire thing (leave an entrance)

Structure
A seating platform/cubicle should be constructed at least 1 metre over were the compost heap will be. How you make the platform is up to you. The design will be dependent on the materials and budget available. Ensure that there will be a through flow of air below the platform - a boxed in pile with no ventilation may well go anaerobic and start to pong. Its sensible that the compost heap should fenced off in some way to prevent badgers or rats etc from eating the contents! Fencing may also be required to prevent deer or livestock from eating willows and other planted species.

Siting
The treebog must be sited where the surrounding willow and other planted species will have plenty of sunlight otherwise photosynthesis will be limited and the plants will not thrive. To keep the Environment Agency happy treebogs should be situated over 10m from watercourses or springs and away from areas liable to flooding.

Willow planting
The best time to plant the willow for a treebog is between October and March, as then the willow has a chance to get established before the on set of summer. However it is possible to construct and use the treebog structure at any time and then plant it out at the appropriate time of year.

If unrooted willow sets are used they should be of a vigorous variety, and if they are planted out after the middle of April they should be well mulched and watered everyday for the first month or they will not take (i.e. the roots will not develop and they will wither away).

Named osier or biomass willows are recommended since these will grow vigorously and can tolerate annual coppicing. Such varieties are also suited for use in basketry and hurdle making. If you are gathering local wild osier or other willow to plant your treebog, use willow that has been coppiced or pollarded recently, because young wood makes the best cuttings. Avoid goat willows, which although vigorous growers, do not respond well to annual coppicing and can be a bit lightweight for working with.

Willow management
The willow can be coppiced annually or left longer. You will however find that it will grow quite large! Cut the willow between November and early March and don't be afraid to cut it right down to the ground or the top of your living woven willow hurdle - as long as it is not smothered with weeds and has sufficient sunlight it will re-grow vigorously using the nutrients and moisture provided by the treebog.

Inputs
Sawdust is useful to aid the correct carbon-nitrogen ratio. But beware if your toilet is used by visitors, sometimes known to fill an entire treebog with sawdust (or straw) in just a few days in their attempts to hide every trace of the poo! Use untreated sawdust only in small quantities, or add a daily or weekly layer to the compost pile. Wood ash is helpful in keeping the compost pile sweet. However, make sure all the embers have gone out and the ash is cold or you may end up with a treebonfire!

In some situtations it may be worth separating inputs if a disproportionate quantity of urine is entering your treebog. Composting wee and poo separately would be a solution - e.g. a separate treebog or a simple straw pissoir, for pee only. Separation of solids and liquids prevents the compost pile from becoming too wet and going anaerobic and causing smells.

Official Requirements
If your treebog is a temporary structure and has no permanent foundations, planning regulations do not apply. Environmental Health Officers will have no objections as long as access to the compost pile is restricted from children and pets (chicken wire or similar barrier) and hand washing facilities are provided nearby.

Environmental health regulations for composting toilets come into force only with regard to the secondary handling of the compost pile. There is no secondary handling using a treebog and so it is exempt from these regulations.

In einer Humustoilette werden Scheiße und auch Küchenabfälle
zu nur 5% des ursprünglichen Volumens und Gewichtes zu Rohstoff kondensiert.
Kein Wasserverbrauch, keine Kanalisation, keine Krankheitserreger,
keine Seuchenverbreitung, kein Müll, keine Müllabfuhr, keine Latrinen,
keine Senkgruben, keine Jauchetransporte, keine Chemikalien,
billig, Einsparen von Kläranlagen, geruchfrei, Wiederverwertung als Humus.
Man braucht nur einen großen Kübel, ein Brett mit 2 Löchern,
eines zum Hineinmachen, eines für den Luftabzug,
einen Deckel, der Luft hineinlassen soll, ein Ofenrohr,
eine kleine Lampe oder Wärmequelle, Luft, Feuchtigkeit,
Wärme und Humusbakterien, um zu beginnen.
In Schweden gibt es viele Humustoiletten:
Clivus Mull-Toa, Mullbänk, Multrum und andere.
Sie sind moderner als meine, vollautomatisch,
von den Gesundheitsbehörden geprüft und empfohlen, und man kann sie kaufen. <<

Ich möchte über die Hauptursache des Zerfalls unserer Zivilisation sprechen.

Die Vegetation hat Jahrmillionen gebraucht, um die Schleimnis, die Giftstoffe, zuzudecken mit einer Humusschicht, einer Vegetationsschicht, einer Sauerstoffschicht, damit der Mensch auf Erden leben kann.

Und dieser undankbare Mensch holt eben diese mit langwieriger kosmischer Mühe zugedeckte Schleimnis und eben diese Giftstoffe wieder an die Oberfläche.

So wird durch die Untat des verantwortungslosen Menschen das Ende der Welt zum Anfang aller Zeiten. Wir begehen Selbstmord. Unsere Städte sind Krebsgeschwüre. Von oben sieht man das genau.

Wir essen nicht das, was bei uns wächst, wir holen Essen von weit her, aus Afrika, Amerika, China und Neuseeland.

Die Scheiße behalten wir nicht. Unser Unrat, unser Abfall wird weit weggeschwemmt. Wir vergiften damit Flüsse, Seen und Meere, oder wir transportieren sie in hochkomplizierte teure Kläranlagen, selten in zentralisierte Kompostfabriken, oder aber unser Abfall wird vernichtet. Die Scheiße kommt nie auf unsere Felder zurück, auch nie dorthin, wo das Essen herkommt.

Der Kreislauf vom Essen zur Scheiße funktioniert. Der Kreislauf von der Scheiße zum Essen ist unterbrochen.

Wir machen uns einen falschen Begriff über unseren Abfall.

Jedesmal wenn wir die Wasserspülung betätigen, im Glauben, eine hygienische Handlung zu vollziehen, verstoßen wir gegen kosmische Gesetze, denn in Wahrheit ist es eine gottlose Tat, eine frevelhafte Geste des Todes.

Wenn wir auf die Toilette gehen, von innen zusperren und unsere Scheiße wegspülen, ziehen wir einen Schlußstrich. Warum schämen wir uns? Wovor haben wir Angst? Was mit unserer Scheiße nachher geschieht, verdrängen wir, wie den Tod. Das Klosettloch erscheint uns wie das Tor in den Tod, nur rasch weg davon, nur schnell vergessen, die Fäulnis und Verwesung. Dabei ist es gerade umgekehrt. Mit der Scheiße beginnt erst das Leben.

Die Scheiße ist viel wichtiger als das Essen. Das Essen erhält nur eine Menschheit, die sich massenweise vermehrt, an Qualität sich vermindert und eine Todesgefahr für die Erde geworden ist, eine Todesgefahr für die Vegetation, die Tierwelt, das Wasser, die Luft, die Humusschicht.

Scheiße aber ist der Baustein unserer Wiederauferstehung.

Seit der Mensch denken kann, versucht er, unsterblich zu sein. Der Mensch will eine Seele haben.

Die Scheiße ist unsere Seele. Durch die Scheiße können wir überleben. Durch die Scheiße werden wir unsterblich.

Warum haben wir Angst vor dem Tod? Wer eine Humustoilette benützt, hat keine Angst vor dem Tod, denn unsere Scheiße macht unsere Wiedergeburt möglich.

Wenn wir unsere Scheiße nicht schätzen und in Humus umwandeln zu Ehren Gottes und der Welt, verlieren wir unsere Berechtigung, auf der Erde anwesend sein zu dürfen.

Im Namen falscher Hygienegesetze verlieren wir unsere kosmische Substanz, verlieren wir unsere Wiedergeburt....

Als Pasolini in einem Film Schauspieler Scheiße essen ließ, war das ein Symbol des Kreislaufschließens, ein verzweifeltes Beschleunigen-Wollen.

Diesselbe Liebe, dieselbe Zeit und Sorgfalt muß aufgewendet werden für das, was 'hinten' herauskommt, wie für das, was 'vorne' hineinkommt.

Diesselbe Zeremonie wie beim Speisen, mit Tischdecken, Messer, Gabel, Löffel, chinesische Eßstäbchen, Silberbesteck und Kerzenlicht.

Wir haben Tischgebete vor und nach dem Essen. Beim Scheißen betet niemand.

Wir danken Gott für unser tägliches Brot, das aus der Erde kommt, wir beten aber nicht, auf daß sich unsere Scheiße wieder in Erde umwandle.

Abfälle sind schön. Das Sortieren und Wiedereingliedern der Abfälle ist eine frohe Tätigkeit.

Diese Tätigkeit spielt sich nicht in Kellern und Hinterhöfen, auf Miststätten, Toiletten und Aborten ab, sondern dort, wo wir leben, wo Licht und Sonne ist, im Wohnzimmer, in unserem Prunkraum.

Es gibt keine Abfälle. Abfälle existieren nicht.

Die Humustoilette ist ein Statussymbol.

Wir haben das Privileg, Zeuge zu sein, wie sich mit Hilfe unserer Weisheit unser eigener Abfall, unsere eigene Scheiße in Humus umwandelt, so wie der Baum wächst und die Ernte reift. Bei uns zu Hause, als wärs unser eigenes Kind.

Homo - Humus - Humanitas, drei Schicksalswörter gleichen Ursprungs.

Humus ist das wahre schwarze Gold.

Humus hat einen guten Geruch. Humusduft ist heiliger und Gott näher, als der Geruch von Weihrauch. Wer nach dem Regen im Wald spazierengeht, kennt diesen Geruch.

Natürlich ist es etwas Ungeheuerliches, wenn der Abfallkübel in den Mittelpunkt unserer Wohnung kommt und die Humustoilette auf den schönsten Platz zum Ehrensitz wird.

Das ist jedoch genau die Kehrwendung, die unsere Gesellschaft, unsere Zivilisation jetzt nehmen muß, wenn sie überleben will.

Der Humusgeruch ist der Geruch Gottes, der Geruch der Wiederauferstehung, der Geruch der Unsterblichkeit.

Scheiße wird zu Gold

Scheiße wird Erde, die man aufs Dach legt, wird zu Wiese, Wald und Gärten.
Scheiße wird zu Gold. Es befriedigt sehr, so immer reicher zu werden.
Der Kreislauf ist geschlossen. Es gibt keinen Abfall mehr, die Umwelt gesundet.
Immer wenn ich ein englisches Wasserklosett benutze,
habe ich dasselbe schlechte Gewissen,
wie wenn ich Auto fahre oder Flugzeug fliege.
Die Wasser Toiletten sind eine der vielen gefährlichen Sackgassen unserer Zivilisation:
Verschwendung von Unmengen reinem Trinkwasser,
um etwas Scheiße und Urin fortzutragen.
Aus 1 kg Wertvollem werden so 50 Liter gefährlicher Substanz,
die Grundwasser, Brunnen, Flüsse, Seen und Meere verseucht.
Der Raubbau wird durch Wegspülen von Lebenswichtigem vervielfacht.
Das Land verarmt.

Kunstdünger ist kein Ersatz.
Wasserklosett: Aus 1.000 Gramm Scheiße wird 50.000 Gramm Unrat-Gift. Humusklosett:
Aus 1.000 Gramm Scheiße wird 50 Gramm Rohstoff-Gold.
Muß ich meine Scheiße verschenken und damit die Umwelt vergiften?
Ich behalte sie mir lieber und wandle sie in Gold um.
In einer Humustoilette werden Scheiße und auch Küchenabfälle
zu nur 5% des ursprünglichen Volumens und Gewichtes zu Rohstoff kondensiert.
Kein Wasserverbrauch, keine Kanalisation, keine Krankheitserreger,
keine Seuchenverbreitung, kein Müll, keine Müllabfuhr, keine Latrinen,
keine Senkgruben, keine Jauchetransporte, keine Chemikalien,
billig, Einsparen von Kläranlagen, geruchfrei, Wiederverwertung als Humus.
Man braucht nur einen großen Kübel, ein Brett mit 2 Löchern,
eines zum Hineinmachen, eines für den Luftabzug,
einen Deckel, der Luft hineinlassen soll, ein Ofenrohr,
eine kleine Lampe oder Wärmequelle, Luft, Feuchtigkeit,
Wärme und Humusbakterien, um zu beginnen.
In Schweden gibt es viele Humustoiletten:
Clivus Mull-Toa, Mullbänk, Multrum und andere.
Sie sind moderner als meine, vollautomatisch,
von den Gesundheitsbehörden geprüft und empfohlen, und man kann sie kaufen.

Jaho, everybody .... not much time on thy fire right now....

...we are full shakti in thy Biodiversity-registry dragonmill since 1 week now!
....amazing prozess!

....on thy other hand i have to say, today the agro-red-neck-farmers came back and destroit thy land on thy west side of her/our all dragonmill again, it is behind the small rivulet on her west side... i did a great dragonmove today and stopt them for 3 times, jumping in front of thy tractor , i pushed myself in front of thys huge weel , thy had to stop one time thy other time thy sneaked around, my whole family help her to protect thy springs where they wanted to go, we saved a small bit on her , about 4000 m2 (square meter) .... now i cant be on thy fire a lot , i have to write a lot of e-mails , to be save for thy action we did today for her bio regional animism move!!!

(my childreen had a rainbow umbrella from me with tree big dragon tree runes on it ! ... thy are save, dont worry)

any spiritual support you can give will help !

Dragon
(1) Is the dragon guarding a treasure, or a cave which might contain treasure?
If so, the cave probably represents your unconscious, the treasure represents yourself,
the dragon that stands between you and your true self represents the fearsomeness of the unconscious,
for one who is still afraid of what may be lurking there. This is a repression of the unconscious contents

(2) For Jung, the first stage of the individuation process is the conscious ego's heroic
struggle {the hero/heroine journey of mythology} to lift itself out of the orginal all-encompassing unconsciousness
and to establish control of unconscious forces.
This finds symbolic representation in the legendary dragon-slayer, St George (St George = the ego; the dragon = the unconscious).

(3) The dragon may represent the devouring aspect of (your relationship with) your mother.
'Slaying the dragon' may therefore mean putting an end to whatever in your attachment to
your mother is detrimental to the process of finding your own psychic individuality.
Once the individual has achieved liberation from the 'dragon',
the feminine side of the man's psyche and the masculine side of the woman's psyche will no longer appear in threatening form,
but as an indispensable companion and guide in further stages of self-development.

(4) A dragon may represent the generative power of (Mother) Nature; the unconscious,
felt as womb pregnant with new possibilities of life.

(5) A winged dragon may symbolize some kind of transcendence,
some passing from 'lower' to 'higher' level of personal maturity.

(6) A dragon may be a symbol for your sexuality, particularily if it - your sexuality - frightens you.
Is your fear irrationsal; or does sexuality threaten to rule your life? In either case, don't kill the 'dragon'; if necessary tame it.
(In China, 'chi' is good, life-giving energy and the channels it runs along are called 'dragon-lines',
which are said to follow underground water and underground magnetic fields).

MILK PRESERVATION TECHNOLOGY ... if needed :)

DESCRIPTION

This simple milk processing technique can preserve milk safely for one full year. Hence it is very useful in providing additional family income to rural women / ... through self employment.

WORKING

The fresh milk is heated to a temperature of 60 °C. Sugar and other flavours are added before being transferred to milk bottles. The bottles have to be thoroughly cleaned with a detergent or sand and rinsed well in hot water. Milk should be filled leaving a gap of 5 cms from the mouth of the bottle. The bottles are made air tight with crown corks using a manually operated machine. After checking for leakages they are placed in an autoclave or domestic pressure cooker. The autoclave or cooker is heated to 110 °C - 115 °C under 6.5 kg pressure for 4 - 5 minutes. The autoclave is then removed from the fire and kept on the floor for cooling. The bottles are removed and stored on a shelf in a cool place. These bottles should be checked after every 2 - 3 days. If any bottle shows signs of contamination it should be removed from the shelf (precipitation or change in colour). The properly sterilized milk remains usable for about a year under ordinary conditions. The remaining bottles should then be packed carefully so that the corks do not become loose during transportation and be exposed to contamination.

LOW COST PRESERVATION OF VEGETABLES .... if needed :)

DESCRIPTION

Vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, green papaya, bean, pea, carrot, turnip, radish, pumpkin etc, can be preserved by this technique up to a period of about three months without much alteration in the nutritive value of the produce.

WORKING

Wash the vegetables thoroughly in clean water. Remove blemishes, rotten part, if any. Shred the vegetables, preferably with a stainless steel knife. Weigh 2 kg. finely (1/8" to 1/16" thick) shredded cabbage and keep it in a clean plastic sheet or container and mix it with 2 kg shredded vegetables (almost any type of vegetables may be used except potato, sweet potato etc.). The proportion of cabbage may be more but not less than 50%. Cabbage contains desirable lactic acid bacteria and the nutrients which help in fermentation. (When cabbages are not available, radishes or cucumbers may serve the same purpose).

Add 22.5 gm of salt (NaCI) per KB of shredded vegetables. Mix thoroughly for 3 to 5 minutes. Put the mixture is plastic/earthen/wooden buckets. (Wax lining is necessary for-earthen and wooden vats). Press vegetable mix with hand so that brine can come up at the top of the vegetables.

Cover the container with a plastic sheet (200 gauge) which touches the surface of vegetables to avoid contact with air. Pour water (which must not mix with the vegetables) at the top of plastic sheet so that adequate pressure on the vegetables is ensured. Fasten the bucket with a thread around the neck so that the entire system becomes almost air-light.

PRECAUTIONS

l Keep the bucket in a safe place. Don't open the cover of the bucket. This will spoil the product. Vegetables can be kept in this way for a period of about three months.
l Once it is opened, the materials should be consumed on the same day. If it is not possible special presentation techniques like heat processing (bottling), refrigeration or addition of preservatives may be applied to preserve it for longer period of storage for marketing.
l Vegetables get sour by fermentation. If the product is too sour it may be washed thoroughly in water/hot water to make it free from acid and salt. Boil the vegetables and cook with spices to suit individual taste.

ADVANTAGE

Fermented juice in the vat is also nutritionally sound. This has a characteristic odour and is rich in vitamins B and C. The liquid has mild laxative effect. Heat the juice for a few minutes after adding a little sugar and spices and use as a soft drink. It is also a good appetizer.

Das Badehaus ist jetzt schon ein Denkmal,
allerdings wurde es vor über 20 Jahren das letzte Mal benutzt … als Hühnerhaus …

Vor dem, wirklich schönen, Exhühnerhaus, im Süden, befindet sich eine Wunderschöne Linde, etwas entfernt eine :

Hecke (v. althochdeutsche: hegga = hegen, einhegen, umzäunen, ae. hecg, engl. hedge, frz. haie, nndl. heg,
all diesen Begriffen ist derselbe Wortstamm „hag“ zu eigen)
ist ein linienförmiger Aufwuchs (ein- oder mehrreihig) dicht beieinander stehender und stark verzweigter Sträucher oder Büsche.
Die Silbe heck bedeutet beschützen, behüten,
Hecke und beschreibt die Abgrenzung eines Ortes im Allgemeinen oder durch eine Heckenumpflanzung im Speziellen.

Narrator: Five driving hours further South a Frenchman also made himself independent with Biogas. He is an Inspector for a larger forest area in the region of XXXX South of France. His house towers high on a chalky hilltop between the Côte d’Azûr and the Alps of Provençe.

Jean Pain, the innovator from Ville Croze has to refuel once again. The gas that he is compressing here is not derived from manure but from wood. The idea for this came to the forest inspector some years ago when he was composting some brushwood to make fertilizer for his garden.
He realized there is plenty of brushwood in the Provençe and it is also dangerous, as it will spread the fire if it burns some place. And if the Mistral blows, it will turn into a disaster. This Storm will drive the fire through the dried up forests and 100’s of hectare forest can be destroyed in just a few hours.

In those places where Jean Pain has cleared the forest of underbrush, the fire just passes under the trees and cannot ignite them so easily. The valuable energy stored within the trees cannot get lost so easily anymore. And so Jean Pain came to make it his mission to utilize his knowledge of wood composting to gain energy out of under brush. He cleans out the forest systematically with the help of his team. While doing this, he is very careful to remove only as much, as to leave the fertility of the forest floor in tact.

To be able to chip the brushwood, Jean Pain built a heksler himself. This heksler is driven by a tractor. A flywheel with steel blades will chip branches of almost any size. At first the wood chips are stored in a storage container.

The second stage. The wood chips are sent through the steel blades for a second time. Now they are fine enough to be composted.
Jean Pain seems satisfied with the result. He can also be satisfied with the work of his team. It cleared 40 tons of brushwood from 1 ha land in just five days. This took about 500l of fuel. Normally the stripped branches would be left on the ground to rot but Jean Pain wants to make something better of it. Energy and compost.

The 40 tons of wood chips from one hectare can be harvested again every eight years here in the Provençe. If you were to burn it, you could use it to substitute about 10'000 litres of heating oil. But Jean Pain wants more. At first he pours some water over it and lets nature work for him, namely, billions of busy bacteria.
His method has also convinced a couple of Belgians. With them we could film every step of the process.

Here he is marking out the base for the new pile of wood chips. There are many preparations necessary, but they are worth it. Because the innovator from Ville Croze has discovered, that with the help of the bacteria there is much more fuel to be made of these chips than if you simply burn them.

On top of the large circle, layer upon layer, the Biomeiler is being created. The more carefully the wood chips are being stamped down, the better the bacteria can decompose them.
In the centre of the pile is the fermenting tank. It is filled with compost that is already a few months old, therefore already partially composted. A PVC pipe is then spiralled around it.

The fermenting tank is sealed hermetically. The compost can now ferment and as in the Steiner System, produce Biogas. The long PVC pipe is for water. It is designed to draw the heat from the Biomeiler. The pipe is carefully embedded into the layers of wood chips and stamped down.

The opening of the water pipe. Here we pump cold water into the Biomeiler, to warm it up. A few hundred metres of PVC pipe disappear in the woodpile this way. Also the fermenting tank, soon it will be heated up by the fermenting process, by the heat the bacteria will release during fermentation.

The gas pipe is being fitted. Now it will only take a few more days until the Biomeiler will start to produce energy. It will produce gas in the centre tank, and in the outer layers it will produce heat.

Now, returning back to Provençe, we can see a finished Biomeiler. This 80 m3 pile carries 40 tons of heksel material and 20 tons of water. It produces gas and heat. The inside temperature rises above 60°C, regardless whether the sun is shining or if it is raining. The Meiler would also work in Siberia. Out of Meilers such as this one it has been possible to get hot water for 18 months. Jean Pain saved on 4000 litres heating oil this way. As well as that, the fermentation chamber inside also produces Biogas to the equivalent of 5000 litres heating oil. Understandable therefore that Jean Pain and his wife Ida are reasonably proud of their particular use of solar energy.

Ida:“ Thanks to the heat from the wood compost I have warm water. It is 60°C. And I shall now bring it to the boil with the gas from the wood Meiler to make us a tea.“

Jean:“ Brushwood offers us these extraordinary possibilities; This valuable resource, of which we have vast quantities on this planet. A resource, which will produce warm water in rural areas and heating of houses. You can also get gas from it, methane, to considerable amounts and use this to produce electricity. And after this unconventional way of energy production the remains can be used as fertiliser. It is the best there is. I think it is time to realise that the under brush in any forest makes up the most substantial part of bio matter on this planet.“

Narrator: And this is what remains of the 80 m3 Meiler. Should you choose to burn this material, you would again substitute about 3000 litres of heating oil. From the brush wood of 1 ha there can be made in total more than 1/5 more energy than if you were to burn it. But this material is far too precious to burn because it is a valuable fertiliser. Why this carbon monoxide poor wood compost can be such a powerful plant fertiliser is a question that by now also interests some Belgian scientists. These Belgian potatoes have never received mineral fertiliser, only the remainder of the wood compost. Are there carbon monoxide collecting bacteria living within the compost, that together with other microbes deliver the necessary nourishment?

Even in the Provençe with relatively poor rainfall it is possible to have decent crops with the help of the wood compost, without any additional watering. Are air, wood compost and morning dew enough to fully nourish the crops? Until now these questions remain unanswered. Even Jean Pain doesn’t yet know the answers to them. Him and his assistants do not have a laboratory and are not scientists.

The innovator of Ville Croze, recipient of the French honorary title “Knight of Agriculture”, has shown us what can be done with brushwood. The waste product of our forests can produce various forms of energy and valuable plant fertiliser. And particularly in the dryer climate regions of our earth the forests are better protected against devastating fires this way.

Ida and Jean Pain, and the Steiner’s in Switzerland, have invented something with which man can really accomplish something. It isn’t just about the possibility to gain energy from brushwood, but it is ultimately about getting more nourishment and to gain renewable energy from our environment without harming it.

ENERGY FROM BRUSH-CLIPPING COMPOST

Jean is from the Provence region of France. He has developed a compost water heater and uses a digester to make methane gas.

A French gardener points the way toward ecologicaly benefecial energy.

The warm, dry, and rocky Provence region of France is better known for its resorts than for its suitability to gardening. Yet—among that area's craggy hills—a self-taught organic gardener, forester, and biotechnologist named Jean Pain is working wonders with a new technique of composting. By removing underbrush from his woodlands and pulverizing it in a shredder of his own design, M. Pain fertilizes his incredibly prolific gardens, heats his house with the warmth created during the decomposition of the woodwaste, and even runs his car on the biogas produced in a methane digester which also accepts the shredded brush.

A few months ago one of MOTHER's staffers visited Jean and Ida Pain at their home in France, and discussed the techniques which the inventive agronomist has developed to overcome the hardships of the impoverished native soil and become self-sufficient . . . while restoring the ravaged forests of their area to a lushness that the region hasn't known for centuries. Since Jean's research is so extensive and varied, we've decided to relate just one portion of it in this article . . .

The manual labor involved in composting—if one is working exclusively to produce fertilizer for crops—tends to become prohibitive on any large scale. Therefore, the techniques for the construction of heat-producing piles with weights of up to 200 tons—like those the Pains are experimenting with—are somewhat different and more mechanized than the methods used for a simple garden compost heap. (However, Jean stresses that—despite all the necessary mechanization—the effects of applying the following information hold great potential for individual reforestation and localized energy production anywhere in the world.)

As M. Pain explained it, there are three basic steps in the preparation of the material needed for energy-producing compost piles.

[1] Thicket-trimming: While removing brush from forested areas (the Pains gather their "raw material" in such a manner), it's important always to consider the balance of ecological systems. Proper brush trimming encourages the growth of healthy trees, and at the same time maintains ample wildlife habitat and protects the woodland from the threat of fire. Depending upon the climate and soil in any given area, it's often possible—Jean has found—to remove about 15 tons of undergrowth from each acre of land every year . . . and the process will provide the remaining saplings with sufficient sunlight to grow straight and tall.

[2] Shredding: Since the underbrush that's collected may reach diameters of up to four inches, relatively heavy-duty machinery is necessary to shred the wood. Jean prefers a cutter that produces slivers rather than chips . . . since water penetrates the surface of along thin fragment more easily than it does blocky chunks. Though the shavings may be as much as an inch long, the ideal thickness is about 1/16 of an inch.

[3] Saturation: M. Pain claims that a cubic yard of brush can—under ideal conditions—absorb and retain about 140 gallons of water . . . if the pile is progressively stacked and soaked over the course of three days. Water must be added to the layers at least once every 4 inches, but watering at 2-1/2-inch intervals will give the best results. In addition, since a certain amount of liquid will filter through the stack, a trough must be built to collect all the excess moisture so that it can be sprayed back onto the heap.

OPERATION

Any thermal compost pile—Jean explained—can be sized according to the demand for heat that is anticipated. We'll discuss, then, a heap built from about 16 tons of clippings. This happens to be equivalent to the amount of brush that can be removed from an average acre of timber during a year of normal stewardship . . . and such a pile also produces the right amount of humus to add to an acre of land that's to be used for growing cereal grains.

After the twigs from such an area have been shredded, they'll form a mound about 10 feet wide, 10 feet high, and 15 feet long . . . with an average density of about 20 pounds per cubic foot. However, the process of saturation may bring the poundage up to nearly 60, and the final density will still be in the range of 40 pounds per cubic foot. (Jean has found that the piles usually finish decomposing by the eighteenth month . . . but he tests the materialby crushing a chip between his fingers-to be sure the compost is ready for field and garden use at that time.)

While composting goes on, the bacterial activity within a pile produces a considerable amount of heat . . . averaging about 140°F in most instances. Thus it is possible to tap a significant source of thermal energy by intertwining heat-exchanging pipes throughout the interior of the stack.

Jean's early research consisted of laying 1" black polyethylene semirigid pipe in a serpentine pattern within the rectangular heaps . . . in either a vertical or horizontal array. While the horizontal arrangement proved to be easier to assemble, the vertical approach was considerably easier to take apart once decomposition was complete. Of course, in either case the connections in the plastic pipe must be secure . . . since a leak will be hard to notice within the heap, and even more difficult to repair . . . without completely disassembling the pile.

A COMPOST WATER HEATER

Once the Pains' theories about the heat production capacity of compost piles had been borne out by actual experience—and they were getting enough hot water to keep a 1,000square-foot home warm—they then concentrated on improving the overall efficiency of their heat capture system. One obvious way to minimize heat loss to the atmosphere was to build the piles in a circular fashion . . . which offered less surface area for a given volume. Furthermore, such an approach promised to simplify both the assembly and the tearing down of the heaps.

The basis of Jean's cylindrical compost pile is some sort of tower—built from chicken wire, for example—which will hold the inner brush in place. One example incorporates a retainer five feet in diameter and ten feet tall. Once the tower has been filled with brush clippings, 1" black polyethylene semirigid pipe is wrapped around th e structure . . . starting two feet from the bottom, with spirals spaced every six inches, and ending about two feet from the top. The pipe is tied to the tower at its points of entry and exit, and wound tightly enough in between to stay firmly in position.

A two-foot-thick layer of composting material is then packed around and atop the tower and pipe . . . with the ends of the tubing protruding, of course. The intake and exhaust ends of the pipes should be connected to form a closed loop running to and from the building being heated.

A QUICK AND EASYHOT AIR SYSTEM

Jean also pointed out that one way to get around the complexity and expense of using water pipes and radiators is to heat air in a thermal pile. The technique works quite well if the heap can be located close enough to the point of use to eliminate any need for extensive lengths of ductwork and the associated expense and heat loss.

Jean constructed an experimental air heaterto serve a 70-square-foot drying shed-from a pile of about 425 cubic feet. Three levels of sixinch heat duct were set into the compost, with the entry and exit pipes going directly into the building. Circulation is handled by convection, and Jean's records show that the temperature inside the dryer has remained at 125°F for over eight months.

BRUSH GAS

It has been known for some time, and documented by experts such as Ram Bux Singh (MOTHER's articles about Singh are listed in "Biogas Workshop" on page 86 of this issue), that methane gas can be produced from cellulose in the absence of air. Methanogenic bacteria thrive on the carbon and nitrogen in pulverized wood, and leave carbon dioxide and methane (CH.) as waste products. However, the microbes work best at about 98°F . . . and therefore require heat augmentation (in most climates).

The compost-pile heating method is ideally suited to meet this need, since a biogas digester can easily be enclosed in a heatproducing heap. Jean Pain has ex perimented with a digester employing a tightly sealed four-cubic-meter vat wrapped with 1" polyethylene pipe. Water is circulated through the pipe to cool the vat when the warmth developed by the compost becomes excessive. Thus, heated water is also a by-product of the process.

In addition, a thermometer is placed in the top of the vat for monitoring the interior temperature, and a length of copper tubing runs from the vat to a series of rubber inner tubes which serve as gas storage space. [EDITOR'S NOTE: In working with methane, it's imperative that proper precautions against leakage be taken . . . since the confined fuel can be very explosive when mixed with a small amount of air.]

After 71 days of digestion, Jean's biogas plant produced nearly 3,750 cubic feet of gas with a heating value of almost 450 BTU per cubic foot. The 50 cubic feet of fuel available each day was used to feed appliances in the house, and to power the Pains' little Citroen 2CV truck.

FUTURE POSSIBILITIES FOR BRUSH COMPOST HEAT

Jean and Ida Pain hope that future work with brush composting will result in localized technologies that will return more land to small farming . . . and enable more people to make a living from the soil. In an era in which the survival of the small farmer is threatened by the continual escalation of petroleum-basedfuel costs, alternative energy schemes like M. Pain's do, indeed, offer a potential salvation for independent agriculturists . . . who have been the basis of our species' existence here on earth since our beginnings.

The Brief History of Gaia

The Earth - Gaia - is about 4,6 billion years old. For an easier understanding,
let’s cut this time-span down to 46 years. The early years of Gaia's existence are clouded in the mists of history.
It wasn't until the age of 42 that the earth started to bloom.
After about 44 years, dinosaurs inhabited the planet. Some eight months ago the first mammals evolved,
and during this last week the first hominids entered the scene.
Modern man has existed for only about four hours; some sixty minutes ago he took up agriculture,
and a minute ago the industrial revolution began.
During these very last sixty seconds man has managed to turn Gaia into a garbage dump,
to exterminate thousands of plant and animal species, to kill an uncountable number of his own kind,
to loot the planet's resources, to pollute soil, air and water and to leave radiating waste for future generations.
Within the next few seconds, all of us will decide whether we are going to make life on Gaia impossible,
or develop a consciousness that allows us a future existence with Gaia.
Lovelock and Margulis named their theory for the earth goddess "Gaia", because Earth and its
atmosphere have the ability to regulate and sustain the necessary conditions for life.
It would be wrong, however,
to interpret these findings to mean that if we continue to go on as we have so far,
that Gaia - Spaceship Earth - would live on though,
without its human passengers.

This power plant supplies 100 percent of a rural household's energy needs. It is a mound of tiny brushwood pieces (3 metres high and 6 across).
This compost mound is made of tree limbs and pulverized underbrush. In the 50 ton compost is a steel tank with a capacity of 4 cubic metres.
It is three fourths full of the same compost, which has first been steeped in water for 2 months.
The tank is hemetically sealed, but is connected by a tubing of 24 truck tyre inner tubes,
banked near by a reservoir for the methane gas produced as the compost ferments....

A switch to organic farming would not reduce the world's food supply and could also increase food security in developing countries, say the authors of a new study.

They claim their findings lay to rest the debate over whether organic farming could sustainably feed the world. Organic farming avoids or heavily restricts the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, as well as livestock feed additives.

Numerous studies have compared the yields of organic and conventional methods for individual crops and animal products (see 20-year study backs organic farming).

Now, a team of researchers has compiled research from 293 different comparisons into a single study to assess the overall efficiency of the two agricultural systems.
Available materials

Ivette Perfecto of the University of Michigan in the US and her colleagues found that, in developed countries, organic systems on average produce 92% of the yield produced by conventional agriculture. In developing countries, however, organic systems produce 80% more than conventional farms.

Perfecto points out that the materials needed for organic farming are more accessible to farmers in poor countries.

Those poor farmers may buy the same seeds as conventional farms use in rich countries, but they cannot afford the fertilisers and pesticides needed for intensive agriculture. However, "organic fertiliser doesn't cost much – they can produce it on their own farms", says Perfecto.

Using data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the team then estimated what would happen if farms worldwide were to switch to organic methods today.

The world currently produces the equivalent of 2786 calories per person per day. The researchers found that under an organic-only regime, farms could produce between 2641 and 4381 calories per person per day.
Misplaced debate

Perfecto's colleague Catherine Badgley says she believes the calculations they carried out to arrive at the upper number are more realistic. These took into account the higher yields that would be obtained in developing countries, and the details of which crops are grown where.

She points out that even the lower number is sufficient to feed the world. Nutritionists recommend that people consume between 2100 and 2500 calories a day.

The debate over whether the world can produce enough organic food is misplaced, argues Perfecto: "We are producing enough food – it's a question of distribution of that food."

The researchers also found that small farms tend to produce more per hectare of land. "An increase in the number of small farms would enhance food production," they say. They also note that although organic production tends to require more labour, this labour is often spread out more evenly over the growing season, making it easier to manage.
Precision farming

Carl Pray, at University of Rutgers, New Jersey, US, says there is good evidence that small-scale farming in developing countries is more efficient. This is probably because small farms put more effort in the precise management of small areas of land.

But, he says, "the likelihood of all farms reverting to 'small farmerdom' is a big question in an age in which labour is becoming more and more expensive. Take China and India, for instance: the demand for labour is such that people are continually being pulled out of the countryside".

Perfecto, however, maintains that the idea that conventional farming is cheap is a fallacy. "That is not including the real costs. Once you incorporate the cost to the health of people, once you incorporate the environment cost – then organic agriculture is a much superior system."

Pesticides are associated with a number of diseases, including cancer – a fact that was first brought to public attention in Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring. Organic farming is thought to benefit biodiversity and the environment, as well as human health.

Toilets and the shit problem

Most toilets in this country use an incredible amount of water. They don't just use water, they waste water! Every time the toilet is flushed, 8 to 15 litres of clean drinking water is turned into a disposal problem. This foul sewage (black water) needs expensive treatment to bring it up to a standard suitable to be discharged into waterways.

While modern dual flush 'eco' toilets reduce the amount of water wasted, they still use a massive amount and so don't really represent a solution. Even toilets that flush using grey water (water discharged from baths and sinks) still contribute to the problem, even if they are not wasting drinking water.

But there are alternatives. Before the water closet (WC) there was the earth closet. Although the development of these no flush systems came to a virtual halt with the introductions of the sewers, the last couple of decades has seen a great deal of research and improvement in their designs and implementation.

Compost toilets safely turn faeces into a valuable resource. The compost produced can be moved to where it is needed and help to improve the soil. The 'tree bog' goes one step further, it utilises the nutrients directly and produces valuable biomass as a by-product and requires no secondary handling of the wastes.......

About some Permaculture view`s.....

Zone 0 — The house, or home centre. Here permaculture principles would be applied in terms of aiming to reduce energy
and water needs, harnessing natural resources such as sunlight, and generally creating a harmonious sustainable
environment in which to live, work and relax.

Zone 1 — Is the zone nearest to the house, the location for those elements in the system that require frequent attention,
or that need to be visited often.

Zone 2 — The vegetable garden, larger scale compost bins and maybe beehives.

Zone 3 — Is the area where crops are grown, both for domestic and trading purposes. Would include orchards.
After establishment, care and maintenance requirements are fairly minimal providing mulches, etc. are used.
Watering or weed control is once a week or so.

Zone 4 — Is semi-wild. Used for timber production from coppice managed woodland and the placement of aquaculture ponds.

Zone 5 — The wilderness. There is no human intervention here apart from the observation of natural eco-systems and cycles.
Here is where we learn the most important lessons of the first permaculture principle of working with nature, not against it.

In the design of zones 4 and 5 Holmgren's permaculture model makes use of Yeoman's Keyline Design principle in
the design of sustainable human settlements and organic farms.
These simple concepts have led to complex theoretical work which nonetheless is important in underpinning the design process.
In the context of zone analysis,
Holmgren based much of his design system around the concept of a sequentially nested
distribution of zones whereby geographically zone 0 ⊂ zone 1 ⊂ zone 2 ⊂ zone 3 ⊂ zone 4 ⊂ zone 5.

...David Holmgren has also developed 12 design principles for permaculture:

3. obtain a yield
4. apply self-regulation and accept feedback
5. use and value renewable resources and services

Hi Folks(Family),

The nearby agri(o)culture cooperation ( or as we call them the ‘Kuh-KZ’, the cow-concentration camp) has leased nearly all meadows in our surrounding, and exploits them to spread/dispose their shit (slurry) from their huge biogas facility (Anaerobic digester)

Right now they mowed and spread their shit on the meadow, that belongs to the dragon mill and Flora-Fauna-Habitat (FFH – European nature preservation area). As a result of an older deed of lease [lease contract] it’s still compulsory leased to agra culture cooperative.

And as I understood it, they’ve not only mowed the actually meadow but also cut down the green band surrounding this meadows rich of herbs and elder trees. ( Now the bittern bird family is without home! Eggs..)

They dumped that much shit, that all the water around got covered with a disgusting slurry film, so every life got asphyxiated. And that despite of many notifications to them (since 3 years ca. 5 Phonecalls, 3 eye-to-eye meetings, Letter to the national department of agriculture…)

So for that the dragon mill crew urgently needs your help, for documenting and writing articles reports, for all the ‘communications’ with the officials and departments… together with our ‘normal’ work in the garden and with the animal it’s not possible for us to do.

In 2007 the entired area was acknowledged as FFH-Region(nature preservation area), but somehow laws don’t grip yet (....however everybody with eyes can certainly see that this is a unique piece of nature… with all it’s springs, seldom animals and plants.

News on FFH ! (Deutsch-English)

Oh Mother oh Father,

Sorry to tell you, but today they came back with the Maschines and they have cut the Grass very badly again ;(
....about 5-7 Springs are complete fucked down with the tractor wheals....why ?

Heute wurde abermals die gesammte Fläche abgemäht und wiederholt mit schweren Maschinen wurde ueber die Quellen gefahren, das Gras was gemäht wird ist Sauergrass, das kann doch nur bedeuten das die Agro das Gras zum verbrennen benutzt, also zur Energygewinnung werden die Biotope zerstört, ist das Richtig ??? ....nennt sich das Biostrom ??? .... Genmaisanbau, Massentierhaltung und Zerstören von natuerlichen Biotopen ....das alles sind Wörter die gut zusammenpassen !? .... tolles Erbe fuer unsere Kinder ;(

Wir wollen ein Ende von diesen Schweinerreien !!!
Schluss mit dem Betrug und den Subventionen gegen unsere Natur !!!

I have informt today again the Regierungspresidium in Leipzig Frau Pohlack, Frau Ute from the Stadtverwaltung Mügeln, Herrn Bernd Heinitz vom NABU-Sachsen, keinen Erfolg bei Frau Kochale (..es geht niemand ans Telefon, seit 3-4 Wochen !!!) ...also i have informt the BVVG Herrn Dietrich (...he did not tryed to understand me ;( ....most from the Parts we are talking belong to them, they (BVVG) are the owner ! But, somthink is wrong there !

Heute habe wir nach diesem erneuten Schock, das Regierungspräsidium in Leipzig Frau Pohlack, Frau Ute von der Stadtverwaltung Mügeln, Herrn Bernd Heinitz vom Nabu-Sachsen, den Bund ! , Frau Kochale (...die geht nicht ans Telefon seit 4 Wochen ! ...unverschämmt !), dann habe ich Herrn Dietrich von der BVVG Leipzig in Kenntniss gesetzt, jedoch ohne Erfolg, Herr Dietrich wollt uns auf keinen Fall weiterhelfen ! ...wirklich traurig, aber Wahr ..... den grössten Erfolg vermuten wir in der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Landesregierungspräsidium und Herrn Heinitz vom NABU-Sachsen + der Bund !

Allerdings gehöhren die meisten Flächen der BVVG Leipzig und sind an die Agro-Genossenschaft verpachtet, und zwar bis z.B. 2010 oder 2020 ..... das Amt in Döbeln...scheinen gute Freunde von der Genossenschaft zu sein, leider gehören die nicht auf die Seite der Naturschützer und Naturfreunde , oder doch ?

Wir wollen eine heile Umwelt, wir wollen Natuerlichkeit,
und nicht Unnatuerlichkeit das Übel der heutigen Zeit !

Bitte helft alle mit, die Natur zu schützen, sie braucht uns mehr als je !

- Durchführung der Verfahren Zwangsrechte, Enteignung und
Entschädigung
- Prüfung des Sachverhaltes „Gewässer/Abwasserleitungen/
Meliorationsleitungen“ bei allen Antragsgesuchen mit keiner
eindeutigen Sachlage „oberirdisches Gewässer“
- Wahrnehmung bereichsübergreifender Vollzugsaufgaben vor Ort,
die Sachbereiche Oberflächenwasser und Grundwasser betreffend
- Bearbeitung von Widerspruchsverfahren
- Ausführung des „Fachinformationssystems (FIS) wasserrechtlicher
Vollzug“, d.h. digitale Datenerfassung, -verwaltung und
-aktualisierung aller Wasserrechte (auch der alten Wasserrechte) im
Zuständigkeitsbereich der unteren Wasserbehörde des
Landkreises Torgau-Oschatz als behördenübergreifendes
Informationssystem zur umfassenden Unterstützung des
wasserrechtlichen Vollzugs

The Habitats Directive (more formally known as Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the Conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora) is a European Union directive adopted in 1992 as an EU response to the Berne Convention. It is one of the EU's two directives in relation to wildlife and nature conservation, the other being the Birds Directive.[1][2]

It aims to protect some 220 habitats and approximately 1000 species listed in the directive's Annexes (Annex I covers habitats, Annexes II, IV & V species). These are species and habitats which are considered to be of European interest, following criteria given in the directive.[3][4]

The directive led to the setting up of a network of Special Areas of Conservation, which together with the existing Special Protection Areas form a network of protected sites across the European Union called Natura 2000.[1][2]

From my humble view of this planet and its goings on, I see so much pain cause by the concious unconcoiusness that the corperate governments have put into this world.
My belief is that in order to really change the WAY it is.....we MUST change our consumtion of products produced by these "governments". By not doing this we have condemend ourselves to these dire straits.

Thank you for putting concious vibrations into the land......

But this is a political battle over money.

If you have anymore information on how the REAL fight is going politically to stop these atrocities and work towards fixing the after effects of the damage we have caused in the last 80years.
