What do you think of as your life purpose, and how has your personality type contributed to that?
I see myself as a bridge connecting mainstream thought and behavior with "the other"--the spiritual, the alternative, the unusual/out-of-the-ordinary. I'm an INT/FJ, 4w5. I've spent most of my life internally learning about myself and the universe. Finding and understanding my place. Seeking knowledge and the big picture pattern. Astrologically, I balance my mainstream Taurean side I show to others in public (midheaven) with my deep, metaphyscial (Neptune in Scorpio) side I use as my foundation of what gives me grounding (nadir). It's always a balance--the mainstream/tangible/earthly/physical with the intuitive/metaphysical/spiritual/abstract, and finding a way to best express that balance (Leo Ascendant).

Re: Life Purpose and Personality Type
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 2:44 AMENFP, independant and autonomous free thinker. As an aquarian, sun, mars and saturn, I am different. Sag rising 17 degrees and 9th house pluto started a transformation in 1987 that left me seeking truth and establishing a realistic perspective. Learning what to value was my toughest lesson.
My purpose is to be here for those who find me. I assist people to shift their consciousness, move through self esteem issues and understand their emotions. Ultimately accepting and reconnecting within them selves. Some call this soul retrieval. Similar to NLP, I help people with what they say to themselves.
With Leo Moon 8th house and Venus Pisces 3rd many people come and hang, to mellow. They call it their Frank time, and have admitted feeling eased and grounded in my presence with out ever saying a word about whats up. I suspect this may be deeper energies with in me at work. -

Sat, March 11, 2006 - 8:58 AM"..my purpose is to be here for those that find me"
That's a perfect statement, something that I've made a concious agreement to myself about. How does one be 'of service' to others without volunteering at hospitals or various organizations that are hard to fit into an already packed schedule? I realized that I didn't have to go far to find people to help, that in my day to day life I cross paths, or let's say, I am presented with people who are in need and organically drift into my space. Your personal impact on the world around you comes from the impact you make on a daily basis with the people you meet. I believe your 'mission' is 2 feet away from you at all times. I don't claim to be wiser than the next, but I have learned through my own life's lessons many truths that if shared, could help someone else, have helped someone else. Sometimes just a few right words can help them make the 'shift' by allowing them to step outside and peer back in at themselves.
The ripple affect of your positive action has a tremendous affect on the rest of the world. For instance, working downtown, there is always a homeless person on the street who needs to be seen, acknowledged and greeted just like any other citizen. In your eyes and regard, in your 'good morning' for just a moment, they become a person with a face and a soul. It's painful to see others passing them by, averting their eyes. Alarmingly, so many people are so zoned into their cell phones and IPods they don't acknowledge the now that is passing them by. Their mini technological fortresses allow them to not feel life as it should be felt. In their cacoons, they are safely out of reach of seeing opportunities to reach out as well.

Re: Life Purpose and Personality Type
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 9:14 AMOh if only I knew the answer to that for sure!
I've been told that I have a very calm energy about me, that just walking into a room will calm the people in it. I don't know how true that is, but I've heard it more than once.
Right now, I think my primary purpose is to help a young child find her way. I wouldn't say she's disturbed, or even lost, but she is very angry at life in general, and I think part of why I'm here is to help her get past that. She has a great spiritual power that I can feel in her, but it's a wild power, undisciplined and untapped. I think I'm supposed to help with that also.
Other than that, I'd have to say I'm here to help people find their lost keys (literally and figuratively).

Re: Life Purpose and Personality Type
Wed, March 15, 2006 - 7:03 AMYes, they're not nearly as complex as an astrological chart. But, a different way of looking at personality/identity. They do provide helpful information for people who are not knowledgeable about or interested in astrology. I have found the Enneagram to be more complex than Myers-Briggs, going into childhood origins, ranges of behavior, what energy patterns you're more drawn to when exhibiting best self behavior vs. shadow self behavior, complementary energies that further define your type (wings), how many people you tend to focus on as your "default" (subtypes), etc.
Another difference is that the psychologically oriented systems like MBTI and Enneagram are static. With astrology, you factor in transits and progressions and how they affect your natal chart to determine your current behavior and issues/focus in life.

Re: Life Purpose and Personality Type
Wed, March 15, 2006 - 4:11 PMHey Trance,
I have been developing a theory about infp types (probably not my theory, but I have been developing it myself), goes something like this:
While those who are predominantly E and/or S tend to find their basic life-operating-system paradigms in the outer world, and therefore tend to share commonly accepted memetic webs upon which to build their experiences and understandings, we INs (and probably more so with the Feeling function rather than Thinking) tend to create our own operating systems based on internalized experience. Therefore, I believe INFPs are not differ in our understandings from the dominant social view, but also each of us differ from each other in our uniquely self-created ways of understanding our experiences.
Thus, the INFP is particularly suited to out-of-the-paradigm inspiration such as in creative arts and alternative healing, ways of reframing what may be labeled problems into higher order solutions, or taking in a different perspective to see a different road.
Peace,

Myers-Briggs Type Gifts
Wed, March 15, 2006 - 6:42 PMYes, I would agree with that. All Introverts have a highly developed inner world. iNtuitives seek the big picture and focus inward to find it. Through their vast explorations of their inner worlds, they are able to grasp concepts in individual ways that others may not comprehend. Feelers focus on people, thus the alternative healing connection makes a lot of sense. And Perceivers allow themselves free reign on explorations without the boundaries of rapid/necessary conclusions and "boxes" or "labels" to attach to these explorations.
Perhaps a way of understanding how the different functions focus/excel/are "in their element" (my own off-the-top-of-my-head theory):
Introverts (I's) focus inward
Extroverts (E's) focus outward
iNtuitives (N's) focus deeper
Sensors (S's) focus more precisely
Thinkers (T's) focus with logic
Feelers (F's) focus with intimacy
Judgers (J's) focus with structure
Perceivers (P's) focus with opportunities
What do you think?
