Unveiled: A Double Veil Instructional

I got the "Unveiled" dvd, and I love it. I really liked the way she demonstrated the movements, it was really easy to understand. I also, liked the way she teaches the veil movements. She shows you how to make the move complete. You not only learn the veil movement but also on how to hold your posture, arms, etc. The result looks polished and professional---much more exciting to watch. I seen veil instructionals that cover some of the same moves, but not with the same stylized finish she gives you. If you plan to perform, this is a good veil instruction to check out. And by the way....does anyone know where to find the type of polyester veils she uses? Thanks!

A contest about...umm..contests....

Alrighty Ladies and Gents...

With deeeeep apologies about my scattered moderating here, I spoke with Mama Rasa (that be Petite Jamilla's mama, for those of you not in the know) about maybe creating a contest on this tribe to continue the love and support we all have for PJ.

Problem is, we seem to be going back and forth on ideas that will generate "buzz"...frankly, I'm having senior moments on some clever ideas soooooo.....after thinkin' on it for some time, I thought, why not make a contest about contest ideas?

Here's my thought: anyone here can post an idea for a contest that is fun, interesting, different and not SO involved that it makes us crazy. Mama Rasa and I will then pick the best contest, and the person who thought it up gets a prize. And, of course, we implement the contest and the winner of THAT gets another prize.

So what do you say? Let's hear from you!

I just wanted to say it was a pleasure to see Petite Jamilla in the low South again. We totally enjoyed her class at the Arabian Knights thing in P'cola Fla. The chick is a fantastic dancer but it is her patience and passion in teaching that really stands out to me. I've been teaching for a only 2 years & it is a challenge but PJ did it with grace & skill (especially with all the burly knights shouting at each other!). She's very patient & a stickler for breaking things down & focusing on all the details. Kudos for the fantastic class!

Much respect - Roz

Hi,

I was interested in possibly purchasing Petite Jamilla's Double Veil DVD. I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on it, as far as what exactly it covers?

Also too, where do I purchase it? I went to http://www.bohemianmarket.com/ and it looks like it's no longer in service. Maybe this is the wrong web address---Can anyone direct me to the right place? I appreciate your help.

Thanks!

I have worn out one Folies Bergere DVD already, had to buy another one!

In PJ's number (Ajaja)- she has some amazing coins on her outfit. Where did they come from? Were they specially made for PJ, or are they commercially available?

I'm looking forward to getting some more DVD's- once I've moved I'll be buying up big! Pj is amazing, and so beautiful. My 11 year old daughter adores her- she thinks she's the best thing since sliced bread! (So do I- but its cuter when she says it! LOL!)

Keep it up PJ, we all love you!

I saw the BDSS show in Va a week ago (it was AMAZING). In the second half, the principal dancers wore green costumes. PJs was very simple with a skirt and bra that had leafy pattern beaded on the top of the skirt and the bra. Does any one know who produced this lovely piece?

I taught a weekend workshop with Double Veil on Sunday and a Modern Drum Solo Choreography on Satuday with an evening show to follow hosted by Beatriz this past summer (sweetheart she is!) and i was selling my instructional Double Veil DVD's and ran out of the copies i brought with me. The dvd's were at the printer and i promised to contact everyone when they were ready... small problem.... i lost my contact book somewhere along the tour and wasn't able to find the address' of the people interested in ordering my DVD. I am posting this on my fan sites (myspace.com, facebook, etc..) in hopes that this message reaches ya'll! If you attended this workshop and/or know someone who has... please forward this message to them. My apologies for the delay. The DVD's are complete and ready for resale at the price of $25 and free shipping to Mexico City.

I was wondering what the piece was that you used for your veil solo in Toronto last week. It was a great piece as always and my Gramma (her first bellydance show) loved it! I'm not sure if its on the Babelesque CD though. Thanks for the help!

OKay, so just shoot me if this has been discussed before, but I wondered if PJ has done or has any plans to do any veil instructionals?

I've just gotten four sets of gorgeous veils, and as PJ is my favourite 'veiler'....I'd love to learn from her! FInding a good teacher is hard, so while I wait, I'd love to start learning...

Can't wait till the BDSS eventually (we hope) cruises onto Perth, Australia...I'll be there with bells on!!

Petite Jamilla started her belly dance troupe, Sirqus of Jreams (SOJ) back in 2002, and as every troupe goes members came and went either because of relocations, college, divorces or what have you......current SOJ members have now been with us for over 3 years and there are some new ones too that have been with us for almost a year.......anyway this group of young women work so well with each other, I love working with them (I teach while PJ is on tour), they are motivated, and very talented dancers. (I already told everyone that SOJ competed in the Panoply contest in Huntsville back in April) well I just wanted to share with you all more info on the SOJ troupe, not only are they beautiful, creative and talented, but smart as well! One of our members, Kelsey, just completed her second year at the University of Montevallo (the same University PJ attened, and 2 other SOJ members as well).....well Kelsey just finished her final semester on The Presidents list! I am so proud of her, she was on Deans list all year and the final semester she made the Presidents list......wow, I am just so proud of her and wanted to be a momma and share with the rest of the belly dance community. Thanks for letting me brag! :)

Just got back from seeing PJ in Monaco!

My husband Jim, I had flew to Monaco to visit Petite Jamilla, it was a short visit, but great! This is the second time we have gone to see here there, the first time they had apartments in Cap D’Ail, though the apartments were large, you had to catch a bus to get to the casino and you had to buy linens and such too, so it was more expensive to live in the apartments…so this time they are in Beausoleil and can walk down the hill to the casino, the apartments are smaller, but very nice and furnished, so you don’t have to buy linens. This was the week before The Grand Prix, and all the parents were rushing to get there to visit their daughters before the insanity of the Grand Prix! Moria and Colleens mom was there the same time we were and boyfriends of Sonia and Jayna, Danny and Paul…so there was lots of family to visit the girls. It was fun for all of us to meet at the casino for the shows and know that some of the gals had their loved ones with them. BDSS members are on the road so much that it is nice when they have family and friends come see them, it picks up their spirits. AND I might add THE SHOW IS FABULOUS!! OMGoodness it is over the top, excellent…loved it!
The weather was beautiful, it had not gotten too hot yet, as the air conditioners are seldom turned on (hey I am from the south, we run our air conditioners! Southern gals don’t like to “glisten”)…anyway because the troupe is in rehearsals daily along with French classes and such there is a lot of time for Jim and I to explore by our selves…the last time we were here we went to Italy on the train and had this wonderful dinner and went to Canne, Florence, Grass and Nice…This time we weren’t there as long so we only went to Grasse one day on the train, it was fun, to visit the perfumery there, the one day off PJ had we hopped on the train and head up that way, sniffed perfume until we couldn’t smell anything!!…lots of fun coffee shops to have our afternoon cappuccino and try French meals we were not brave enough last time to…one evening when PJ was with us we called Issam and Hanna to meet us at this fabulous Lebanese restaurant…what fun that was, and one evening we spent dinner with Colleen’s mom, she is so interesting, very creative woman and happens to live in Santa Barbara where my best friend lives! I love dinners in France as they are typically 2 to 3 hours long, great conversations and the owners are not in a hurry to get you out of there…that is nice. We didn’t make it to the beach, a week is just too short for a visit to Monaco…we did take the tram tour of the 2 kilometer country and this time we went to the Ocean Museum founded in 1800, on the theme of Science and Art…it is so beautiful! As usual I did not get to spend enough time with my daughter PJ , but the time we did get together was priceless, great conversations and some laughs. I know she is my daughter but she is such an outstanding person to be around, I really enjoy her company….I miss her!

Well did you drink a pot of coffee reading this? Lol…that is why I shouldn’t wait and let all this news pile up on me…I should send out little notes every month or so…oh well I hope you enjoyed it! I enjoyed reliving it while I was writing. So until next time!
HUGS

Hey PJ, Mama J and friends- What's shaking?

Can't believe it's been almost 6 months already since we met, and danced, down there in 'Bama. How time flies!
Howdya from the "dancer formerly known as Rico Dancer, now "Rick, of Hollywood Ballet." That's the dance group now, started last Feb., after my return to LaLaLand.

I'm going to be out that way later this year, or next- judging dance competitions for a new national touring convention. Also going on the beauty pageant judging circuit, apparently- hope to make a positive difference, maybe over time help steer pageants away from swimsuits, and towards more exhibition of talent.

Y'all can check out our just finished (but still editing, please be kind!) Aida dance later this weekend at www.youtube.com/HollywoodBallet
And coming your way soon- the "Hollywood Dance Workout." Stay tuned!

Here's to you J and PJ- keep it rocking!

I apologize for my previous listing- don't know why it's not showing up correctly!

Check out our new CD and DVD releases, available starting today!!

Bellydance Superstars: Introduction to Bellydance DVD

This instructional DVD is the first of its kind with four world famous bellydance performers and renowned instructors breaking down the basic movements of this art form. It's not everyday that you can say you've studied with Sonia, Bozenka, Amar Gamal and Saida who are considered today's top bellydance teachers. This instructional DVD is a must for dancers that want to attain a strong bellydance base. Movements are clearly broken down in a simple manner.

Music From Le Serpent Rouge CD

If Queen Victoria, Edward Gorey, Django Reinhardt and Little Egypt got together for a tea party, who would entertain them?
The Indigo Belly Dance and Miles Copeland bring you Le Serpent Rouge. Vintage cabaret meets vagabond elegance in a strange brew of Bellydance and Ragtime, Vaudevillian, Mid-Eastern and Gypsy music. Sometimes enchanting, sometimes macabre, often raucous, but always delightful, these performers breathe new life into the movement and spectacle of a bygone era in this knockdown revue.

Featuring: Beats Antique, Pentaphobe, The Upper Egypt Ensemble, Kocani Orkestar

The cutest baby bellydancer...

So, Mama Rasa has pointed out the cute baby pic of PJ for the main photos pic....this led me to question:

How does one raise a baby to bellydance? What was PJ like as a little girl (maybe PJ can chime in here, too)....are there any interesting and funny childhood stories? I have to say, besides the Salimpour family, I know very few multi-generational bellydance families and I'm curious what that sort of life is like....

Summer Workshops with Petite Jamilla

Hurry call today to schedule a Petite Jamilla workshop in your area!

Petite Jamilla is available this summer for workshops in South
America, Mexico, Canada, Europe and the US. Petite Jamilla workshops
can be one day or one week intensive, can design a workshop for your
needs:

ABOUT PETITE JAMILLA:
Our youngest member Petite Jamilla, as pictured on the cover of "Live
at the Folies Bergere" DVD has been touring with the Bellydance
Superstars since January of 2004. Performing the celestial and
inspiring double veil as a featured part of the show, is just a
fraction of what this talented dancer has to offer. Since she was 17,
Petite Jamilla has been teaching workshops that range from Zill
Techniques with Modern Incorporations, Choreographed Fusion Drum
Solo's, and Spinning Introductions with Double Veil "How To's." By
the age of 20, she had produced 2 instructional DVD's [Beginner's
Dance Movements, and Secrets of the Double Veil] available for
purchase through www.bohemianmarket.com. Cross-Cultural Fusions are a
passionate focus for this dancer as her Irish/Native American
ethnicity became the incentive to further explore and push the
boundaries of fusion in dance. With training in Bellydance (taught by
her mother, Jamilla Rasa), Polynesian, Scottish Highland, Modern
Irish, and Cape Breton Step Dancing her unique blend began an
unclassifiable style. Dually equipped as a classically trained
musician in Western style compositions and Scottish/Irish blends - it
was, of all things, the Highland Bagpipes that showcased Petite
Jamilla's talent for the critically acclaimed Rod Stewart in February
of 2000.

PETITE JAMILLA'S WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:
Modern Drum Solo Choreography-
A fun all levels fusion drum solo choreography that incorporates
modern movements. In the choreography, you will learn how to isolate
circles on the lateral plane of the body.

Double Veil and Spinning-
Teaching her 7 techniques to double veil in addition to spinning
pointers, Petite Jamilla uses Visualization and meditation methods to
relax the body and focus the mind on spinning through which she found
her own spiritual connection.

Troupe Choreography
This workshop offers a drum solo choreography for a troupe to learn
and perform. Entire troupes are encouraged, but a minimum of 3
representatives from each troupe should be present to learn the multi-
layers of formations and choreography. Solo performers are not to be
excluded; as they will learn 1 of the 3 formation and layer options
in order to perform it on their own. This is a fun modern dance and
jazz infused piece with earthy elements and multiple rhythm changes.
(another troupe choreography available is "Caba-Ribal" style: a
mixture of Cabaret and
Folkloric-Tribal movements based on improvisational techniques for
solo sections designed within the group piece.)

AVAILABILITY:
July: 7, 8, 14,15, 21,22,28,29
August: 4,5, 11,12, 18,19

Petite Jamilla's Choice of Music for Paris Show Kicks Booty!

I am very happy to see the great variety of styles and music in bellydance these days in general -- Right??! Everyone? ::applause::

Who actually chooses the music for BDSS? There are some incredible choices of music in the Paris show.... PJ's music is INSAAAANE and I bet I'm not the only one who is completely loving it... Am I correct that it's Ramses - Ajaja? It ran through my dreams all night long last night!

But part of it seems garbled on my dvd and I can't quite figure them out... Does anyone know the lyrics to that song?

I have to write and share this great experience i've had tonight. Today i taught a workshop in Ottowa Canada where everyone was just delightful and really seemed interested in the material. My sponsor Julie was amazing and Julia, her fellow dancer and professional partner, and i shared some conversations about life and dance and the means....But to top off an already excellent day i went to a drum concert with Julie and Julia and it was called WOMB BOOM and if you haven't heard of them - GO FIND THEM! they have cd's and they can be found online at www.wombboom.ca and can be reached at info@wombboom.ca this is an extremely talented African Drumming group of 6 women who ROCK! it was amazing to see them live and really, you should them out if you haven't already. Great day, great night, great life, great love to everyone reading, ... tired, greatly.

question of the day: if you don't love it, don't do it? or it's a job and in the end, you do what you can? teetering between these feelings right now. Curious where the seperation lies and how to marry these idea's together. Any evaluation and or comments are appreciated.

Hey everybody! sorry if i'm delayed getting back with anyone (frank, lana, aracielya,) but rehearsals have been CRAZY this time getting ready for this upcoming US and Canada tour! We have a new opening and ending for "raqs carnivale" and its been exciting and stressfull.....the anticipation of "am i gonna retain this before our first show?" when it comes to choreography? But in a challenging way. It'll be good to feel like i've accomplished it. The weathers' insane. It was in the low 40's the first two days and nights here and now in the 70's during the day and 40's at night. can't wait to hear the feedback from the new stuff in the show for whomever see's it on this tour. But i'll write more later when i have a chance to catch my breathe. for the mean time.....think about this: the movie "pay it forward" rent it. see it. its inspiring and inspirational to be a better person. and then answer this question: would you and do you think it would work; even if it were returned later than you expected? would it, in the end, work out? plus - halie jole osmond is such an amazing little actor you should see it because its some of his best work.

Oohh lala...SOJ Holiday Hafla Fun!!

Sirqus of Jreams Holiday Hafla

This was SOJ’s first annual Holiday Hafla….after three date changes it finally got finalized and was set for Dec 17th. The hafla was held at an old School house that has been restored, the school house was opened in 1918, all the original chairs are still there, it isn’t completely restored yet there are still a couple more rooms to finish but it is quite impressive so far, especially considering it has all been accomplished by one little old gentlemen that is about 80 years old.

The tiny stage in the school house was not in good enough shape for dancers to perform on so Nazirah’s dad, Mark who is a professional window decorator designed our stage, it was so pretty, very pop Andy Warhol kinda 60’s grove going on…right up my alley! I had about 24 giant paper flowers for decorations which Mark used on the stage as well. Loved it!

Sirqus of Jreams had a chance for a photo shoot by Jason, right before the doors opened at 4:30 where my mother in law was the first one to join us! She is so sweet and supportive of the dance community, though she is not a dancer herself she is a great fan of her granddaughter Petite Jamilla. Rico was our “first” dancer to arrive and slowly everyone started coming in….I wanted this to be an old fashion friendly, easy going, non structured hafla….but people got restless so I started a dance line up.

Sirqus of Jeams started the show off with one of their new-er numbers, it is a fusion French dance, awesome indeed!! 3 of the SOJ members are understudies and have just joined SOJ in the past 3 months, and this was their first performance in public ever! They did great, I was so proud of them….the second part of the SOJ French set was a very impressive, double sword by Liz, an SOJ members from Huntsville AL. It was so cool, Liz does a mime routine with double sword and juggles!! Impressive beyond words! It is one of my favorite SOJ choreographies, the French set.

I am going to talk about our lovely dancers we had at the hafla, not in any particular order. We had dancers from Mississippi, such as Gypsy from Queen City Gypsies who honored us with her dance that she does yearly on the grave to honor the Queen of the Gypsies in Meridian MS….it was beautiful as is Gypsy. We had one of my favorite crazy fun dancers Salome from Pensacola FL join us to share her beautiful Veil dance to We Three Kings and share the spirit of the season. There was Danielle from Huntsville Alabama representing Tribal, Danielle was very impressive. Jenna and her student Pamela did a really nice duet, nice clean simple routine; I really enjoyed seeing Jenna dance again. Malawi did an outstanding African influenced dance, she is just getting better and better, she is really an impressive dancer. Nazirah danced a cute little cane number using music of John Beleziken “Dance Samira Dance” I always enjoy watching Nazirah dance. An enormous treat for me and I think everyone else as well was getting to meet and chat then watch Rico from Nashville TN! I have not had that much fun watching someone dance in a long time, Rico did a belly dance-Broadway- jazz character dance to “Cabaret” I LOVED IT!!! What a talented innovative dancer Rico is! When I read Rica’s introduction note, it took me by surprise his sense of humor when on the card it said “will dance for bus fares and pizza crust!” lol….but seriously TN and surrounding areas hire this extremely talented man for your next workshop, you won’t be sorry! Petite Jamilla was at the hafla with us, she is home during the break, and she joined into the holiday spirit and decided to dance too. As usual PJ is the ultimate professional gracing the stage with her energy, she did a veil dance to a song from Passion of Christ and honestly I started crying, though I have seen her countless times my emotions are stilled stirred when I watch her. IT always amazes me when she enters the stage how every eye in the place is on her and you can hear a pin drop….amazing indeed. SOJ returned to the stage with an outstanding drum number with some serious level changes, and intricate Petite Jamilla choreography that the troupe is known for, again they executed the number with some pretty impressive group moves and some tough PJ choreography indeed.

There were several people there I had not seen in a long time like Elmo! He absolutely makes some of the most beautiful wooden tablas from wood from exotic countries like Brazil and South Africa. His craftsmanship is the best; he also makes string instruments and still finds time to be in a Greek band in Atlanta! It was nice to see him again. Scott was in from London for the holidays he ran my merch table for me; I figured he was use to it since he just got off tour with BDSS! It was so great seeing many of my old dance friends and meeting new ones. Several of the local dancers/troupes did not get to come to the hafla this year, fingers crossed they will be able to join us next year. I am always so amazed when I see such talent in this little ol’ state of Alabama. I use to travel a lot with my company Bohemian Market, and I would host show in Ft Walton Beach/Destin Florida because I thought there was more support there, but I do believe that Birmingham is going to become a serious contender in the belly dance scene. It seems as if the time has come and the local people are accepting belly dance more now, that makes me very happy. And I am impressed that out of state dancers are now traveling to Birmingham to visit our haflas and workshops, and traveling to see BDSS in the state of Alabama, while in Mobile at the last BDSS show there were several groups of dancers from Birmingham there showing support.

SOJ did a fine job hosting their first Holiday Hafla, they mingled and chatted and danced and laughed and generally had a good time I think. I know I looked around several times and saw all the members of SOJ meeting new dance friends and being the ultimate host. I am proud to be part of such an elite group of dancers as our southern dance sisters.

Thank you all so much for supporting SOJ’s Holiday Hafla, next year get ready, it will be bigger and even better! Here is wishing everyone a safe and blessed holiday this season with much love to the dance community.

Hey there pretty lady! Can't wait to see you this weekend! I'm sorry to hear that you are sick : (. I hope you feel better. Be sure to drink a lot of water & take a multi-vitamin before you come out here; the elevation is gonna getcha! You should've seen poor Sharon when she came to Evergreen (7000+ft) in September. Day 1 with a workshop was ok, the show that night, she soldiered through & was still just resplendant, but the workshop on day 2 was just hell for her. She had to stop mid-way through because she felt light-headed & was seeing spots! I'm not trying to freak you out or anything. I just want to warn you & to remind you to take care of yourself. See ya soon!
and appreciation for the over 600 members and many many friendly souls i encounter in this adventurous life! Last weekend i had a workshop in Quadalajara mexico with Araciela as my sponsor (she sponsored Sharon earlier this year) and what a doll! Just a complete sweetheart and really impressive with her professionalism and organization - definitely recommend her a future sponsor for anyone booking workshops! And everyone was so great and nice and especially my new friend Daniel Moran who was a powerful and creative dancer with unbelievable classical training and a heart of gold! This weekend i had a workshop in Birmingham Michigan sponsored by Lana who was also a delight. Great attitude, extremely hospitable , professional, again - well organized! My favorite kinds of people, ya know? and all the ladies were fun participants who were willing to pretend they understood my stupid analogies for the movements. And tonight i arrived in Grand Junction Colorado with lots of snow to teach first thing tomorrow morning. and i got to meet Frank who i've spoken with online but not in person yet so this is all exciting and i had a moment of appreciation for my life and the wonderful people in it and what they have to offer. these winter tree's are shedding leaves of peace, may they fall on you too.

So several months ago Jamilla Rasa had the first male BDSSer thread. The Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribean look came up as being good a good look for a male tribal bellydancer. I saw the today that The Princess Bride was on TV and was wondering what some of the pros and cons of The Princess Bride Dread Pirate Roberts pirate look compares to the The Pirates of the Caribean Johnny Depp, or other, pirates. The Princess Bride pirate has the Errol Flynn look going but it's tough to say what the deal with the Caribean pirates look is.

I'm a guy so I when I see either pirate, looks don't matter. I kinda like The Princess Bride pirate since that's what I grew up with. The Johnny Depp pirate look is too new for me to get used to yet. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Didn't mean to make this sound so academic and boring but I don't really know how else to word it.

Hello All...your friendly FOPJ Tribe Moderator...sorry I've been sorta scattered lately...wow, the group has definitely grown to awesome proportions :)

Anyhow....I spoke with Mama Rasa (that's PJ's mama) and we thought it might be nice to list some things you are thankful for....with Thanksgiving coming up (uhhh, unless you aren't from the US...but it's never a bad time to be thankful)....

So..here is the "6 Things to be thankful in 2006".....
I'll go first...mine is a bit roundabout, so here goes:

I used to be annoyed at how busy I get, it still is sometimes nervewracking, but I realize that means people like my creative stuff, and that we are constantly planning shows...so, I am thankful to be busy.

Conversely, I am thankful to have this month of to regroup and take care of myself and enjoy the little things in life.

I used to hate the fact that I always was short on money, but I realized I could do crazy and creative things without using a budget if I just tapped into my imagination, and I think it's made me a better problem solver. Money isn't always everything.

I used to be bummed that all of my friends, many who are also in the artistic field...were always too busy to do social things with me...but that means they were also getting work and as popular, which made me happy...AND, no matter how long I hadn't seen them, they were still warm and supportive and ready to have fun....so it's good to cherish friends, despite the circumstance.

I used to be annoyed during the times my boyfriend and I seemed incompatable...sometimes it can be frustrating comprimising and learning to live with someone, but then I remembered how supported and wonderful I am when he is here, so I had to learn to meet people where they are and work with them :)

I am thankful that I am learning to find the gift of gratefulness, even when the situation wouldn't seem to warrant it. It's not always perfect, or easy to do so....however, if I look at how the rest of the world lives, I know that I have too much. Some of the things we, in this country, consider a necessity, is considered a luxury in more than 50% of the rest of the world. Food, clothing, decent housing, indoor plumbing, the idea of holidays, and gifts, all of these are sometimes considered unbelievable dreams elsewhere....so being thankful isn't that hard :)

So what about you? What makes you wanna get up in the morning? What makes you smile? What makes you believe? What makes you thankful?

Hi all. I've just joined this tribe, after admiring petite jamilla's skills from afar ever since i first saw her in last BDSS show.

I'm in a group performance next monday night with quite a few spins (obviously by PJ's standard it's a walk in the park!) and i get soooo dizzy. I often collapse at the end of them, which isn't a good look on stage. I try practicing at home to build up my ability, but i still feel sick afterwards.

Some poeple on other tribes have said 'focus on your hand' but i just tried that and it felt even worse that trying to spot!

help!

my apologies to everyone who was planning on attending my workshop in Augusta Georgia....i am sorry about the cancellation and it was beyond my control. I spoke with Marie (the sponsor) just that morning and everything was a go - i think it was a BDS decision to cancell and the decision was made without my knowledge. I was so looking forward to that workshop too.....however, i do hope that there is a workshop in the future with some Georgia gals and i am very sorry about the inconvenience, especially to marie who worked so hard to put this together. On a lighter note the southern shows, Virginia, North Carolina and tonights' performance in Augusta have been amazing. Everyone's so sweet and the crowd as a whole is really participative and seem to enjoy it. Thanks for the support and i'm glad i got to meet you Ashley, you were really sweet.

More From The Press-Register
Belly dancers to come to Saenger
By LAWRENCE SPECKER
Entertainment Reporter

The theatrical dance production "Bellydance Superstars" has prompted so many references to "Riverdance" that the comparisons would have become insulting by now -- if the people involved weren't actively encouraging them.
"We're sort of following in their footsteps, really," producer Miles Copeland recently s
