-this is reposted from our meetup group, just figured I'd better get the ball rolling!-

Hail and well met to all of those with a special place for the denizens of myth in their hearts! The fae still exist in a world increasingly hostile to Wonder, let's give them a hand by nurturing situations and environments that still have a place for them. Today, in media circles the term "myth" has become synonymous with "lie" "phoney" "deception" "fraud" and "idiocy". The old legends and dreams have been shook apart, viviscected, and cast aside by many; for every legend that weakens or dies we can offer rebirth, a relevent version, a new vibrant and pertinent story.
Let us strive to mend the breach in ways large and small.
Originally, the Faerie in Phoenix had a far more limited scope... appealing primarily to those interested in the artistic endevors of Brian, Wendy, and Toby Froud. We increased to honor the multitude of other artists that try to make accesible the fantastic. There are far too many to list here, but their contributions are appreciated. One of the functions of this group enables us to share those stories, pictures, songs and games most inspiring.
Random acts of senseless beauty have an energy of their own. It can be infectious, altering those exposed to it, making them question their expectations. We must rememeber, however, that there are people that will oppose this gentle madness, attempt to render our art as quaint, explain away mysteries and dampen wonder. A group will assist in increasing the magnitude of what change is possible and can be used to create too many acts to be easily quashed when resistance is noted.
People exploring the boundaries of reality certainly can fall prey to self deception and a host of other hazards. We can look out for eachother, develop a familiarity with warning signs and develop grounding techniques and other safe guards. We can offer honest and unabashed observations, figure out what works and what doesn't. We can keep an eye on the long term effects of explosions of glamour and other energies; and clean up our messes if we screw up.
