Readymade Film Fest is now taking submissions

The 8th annual Readymade Film Fest is currently taking submissions for this summer's festivals!

The Readymade Film Fest returns this summer with more films for your viewing pleasure. This year's festival will be hosted by LA's newest art gallery; The Federal Art Project. RMFF co-founder George Gomez explains that "FAP is the perfect home for the Readymade Film Fest. Its producers and the art are right there along side with what RMFF stands for and what we try to achieve every year. If you have not been to FAP yet, be prepared to enter an new gem in downtown LA."

Continuing with the success of last year, RMFF will also be doing both Coast to Coast screenings happening in Los Angeles, CA and Washignton D.C. Both screenings will showcase the same film line up.

RMFF is looking for provocative films that are both artistic and philosophical and embrace digital filmmaking without sacrificing the content of the work. RMFF is accepting fiction shorts, animation, documentaries and unique music videos with a storyline (no band shots). There is no cost to submit your film. So don't wait, submit your film today!

photographers - favorite canon lenses?

just curious which lenses you love and hate in the canon family and why?
my favorite is the F2.8 70-200mm IS, such amazing bokeh~ :)
my least favorite right now is the 24-70mm. too much lens distortion while shooting in the studio. i'd love to find the sharpest lens for studio work. i know fixed lenses are sharper but impractical for my studio shoots. opinions? :)

The Carnival Takes Over The San Francisco Streets!

Ahhh yes, my beautiful family – it is happening!
An idea bred in our dear Douglas’s noggin’ for the opportunity to take some pretty pictures of beautiful people in interesting settings (or vice versa vice, vice vice versa, any way you want it) this Saturday, December 22nd we gather and call the streets ours!

This is a time of celebration, so let’s make this Solstice, the darkest day of the year, shine with colors that only those of the Circus wear – let’s friggin’ BLIND the confused passerby with our beauty, shed our own light, dark, odds and delicious ends, and create an exquisite mayhem!

This is purely Doug’s idea, but I think I’ll throw a bit more delicious magick into it, as this opportunity is far too good to pass up, and for some reason, the guy has given me free reign for the gathering of people… and I’ve decided that it’s time to shake some dust!

We’re making this an event.

This will be purely a playtime, joined by members of our dear friends and family (and Top Royalty of the San Francisco Circus Scene) VAU de VIRE SOCIETY & GOOFERMAN, so get your sweet, twisted asses in gear and come play with us. We’ll be doing what we do and looking our best, roaming the streets and finding various San Francisco scenes to play on and around, titillating the innocent passerby, and letting *them* shoose what kind of dreams they want to go home with. We won’t be cooped up in a club or ruled by the laws they need to abide by, not constricted by the limitations in the corporate world – this is OUR FUCKING DAY!

Let’s face it – the goddamn bunnies (gods, I loathe bunnies) have theirs, the Santa’s have theirs, the pirates, zombies, Pee Wee’s – the list goes on. Well, my dear, dear beautiful Circus Family, THIS will be ours. You know as much as I do how needed it is, and it’s far past due. (If it were a library book, we’d be fucked.)

The route for this Saturday is still being figured out by Doug, but the meeting place for this first year will be the Xenodrome, on 26th and Portrero in San Francisco.

The actual day it happens in the future will very likely change to a warmer one later, but this is the first, annual or whenever we feel like it, and like the Carnival, it could show up anywhere, anytime.

Please come this Saturday - to the very first of many - CARNIVALIA!

We will be thrilled to see you!

*** Doors, preparation and PHOTOS at Xenodrome - 9:00am, with Douglass & possibly Nightshade shooting pictures in our beautiful sets.

***Leaving Xenodrome at 11:30am, as sharp as we can get it!

The route is at this point a secret (even to us) and at times even might be decided by consulting the Oracles, so get your asses there by the time we leave, okay?

*Dress in your circus best, but dress warm – the weather is supposed to be a bit chilly, but no rain.

A Cavallo, aka the Carousel, has a stage! This 60ft x 25ft mobile
mirage cruises the open playa, equipped with rideable steel horses,
flame effects, and a live performance stage open to all participants.

A Cavallo's stage will be equipped with tour-quality PA system,
monitors, drum kit, mixers, mics, and lighting to accommodate the
staggering diversity of talent found in Black Rock City. We're booking
about 72 hours' worth of performance, from singer-songwriters to
10-piece bands, cheerleader squads to bell choirs, and monologueists
to interpretive dance clowns, in addition to all the surprises we'll
find once we get out there. And hey, we even have outriggers for
aerial acts - a ring on one side, a trapeze on the other.

Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue crewing up for fundraisers and Burning Man

The Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue is crewing up for our fundraisers and for Burning Man. We need lovelies for Camp Manager, LNT Mgr, press liaisons, bar tending, Blood Vessel Hotties, Pal Bearers and more.

For those unaware of the Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue, its an art project involving the Blood Vessel art car with the goal of taking hand made art coffins to Burning Man's Temple burn. People make origami cranes at the Rue Morgue camp. The cranes have the well wishes of the departed to be taken inside the coffins to be burned.

We celebrate the death as well as the life and help people release the pain they have inside. Our 25 foot coffin trailer towed by the hearse "Clarice" carries the party fun part of what we do, dance our asses off!

Please visit our tribe, join, come be part of art project with a purpose.

Bodywork in the Bay.

Greetings Pixie Vision fans,

I hope you are enjoying the warm weather these days. Spring is in the air and folks are thriving everywhere! There’s a lot going on in my world, so I wanted to let you all know about some important news.

Starting this week I’ll be in the San Francisco every Tuesday from 10am to 8pm doing massage and bodywork out of the Ellie Herman Studios. It’s at 1452 Valencia St, between 25th and 26th, just a couple blocks from Bart, so all of you San Francisco or South Bay clients that are reluctant to cross the bridge will be able to reach me at a much more accessible place. Besides receiving bodywork there you can also get acupuncture and cranio sacral from Renee Hahn, or study pilates under any of their well certified trainers. I’m excited about this new partnership and I look forward to bringing my services to San Francisco. Hopefully in a couple months I’ll move up to two days a week there. If you have a preference about which day of the week I add, let me know and I’ll see what I can accommodate.

My Oakland hours will still be Monday and Thursday 10-7:30 and Wednesday and Friday 5-730.

ABOUT: The Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade is a
fantasy event of unique character and inspiration. Costumes or formal wear and mask are required to enter the event. Costumes range from faeries and goblins to beautiful Victorian garb, elaborate armors, and period attire along with a host of fantasy creatures and characters. We encourage imagination and diverse interaction. Each year, Sypher Art Studios hosts the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade to pay homage to our inspirations and submerge our patrons in a special night of art, music, dance and enchantment.

A GLIMPSE WITHIN: The Masquerade:
Eyes wander across sculpted displays and fantastic imagery in the royal halls. Lords and ladies dance under fey enchantment while reality fades into the night. Imagination gains precious breath as winged faeries and darkened wanderers step through the crowds, joining the revels. a weekend in san francisco... burning man headquarters flew me up to shoot their regional summit. from plane, to train, to bus, straight to bmhq where my forehead collided swiftly with raspa's belly. a red & black name tag was attached to my boob 'official documentarian' it said and then i was set free to capture the historic shennanigans. larry harvey in soft light with a microphone, david best going over a binder of various projects. danger ranger kissed my hand. bex put an 8-pack of redbull in a secret place in the fridge. 'it was in your ryder, ya?' wink, and caffeination and all the things of kamikaze shooting did occur. friday afternoon and people with name tags from japan, england and all over began arriving... nuts and apples, biodegradable forks, coffee and introductions... paul jorgensen showing up was a great surprise. he got a head butt to the gut as well.

after the reception, jimmy and i had australian wine at the victorian mansion. he made me tofu yummies and cause for me to deflect mutaytor questions. i slept in the chinese themed room, woke early, sat in the park watching suspicious chirping creatures, checked email and had breakfast people-watching at herbivore. jimmy left for work at the head shop and i stepped into his clawfoot tub for a claustrophobic shower before heading back to bmhq. i've been meeting such interesting characters on public transport lately. in nyc i was so desensitized to people but in california people spark me more. on the bart i met a 50 year old woman who thanks it's too late to live her dream life. she just stated it as fact, which i thought rediculous. "envision a full day where you do only the things that you want to do." i told her. "my kids are grown. nothing's really stopping me," she said. i guess people get accustomed to giving up on wishes until reminded. waiting for the bus i met a guy who lives for coachella and helped me find my way. once on the bus, i met an old man who used to be a photographer. he kept telling me he's old. i kept asking him why he doesn't keep shooting?

what does age have to do with the deadening of passion? i should hope that wisdom would strengthen it, not cause the spirit to lie down on, or in spite of, it.

so i arrived early to a day of breakout groups and amazing conversation. at one point while all 50 regional reps from all over the world were sitting together, i scanned thier faces, lingering on a few and realized that i was in a room with everyone responsible for the biggest inspiration of my life. these people, their motivation, their ideas have a direct influence on my art, on my life and waves of gratitude came then... my camera and i sat silent, listening...

after hours of redbull and shooting, of climbing steep ladders to the roof for a session, of stepping around art and sculptures in the warehouse, of skulking around a tight room where larry was having a meeting, after all that, we boarded a safari bus to berkeley for a party at michael christensen's place. the safari driver made us sing 'ah mee mo weh, ah mee mo weh' and when asked how he's doing, would answer 'safari, so good.' a quick stop at a shipyard where burning man art is made and then onto the party.

michael christensen's place left me speechless. mesmerizing fire art sculpture with intermittant green, yellow and blue flames, intricate steel lace patterns on ceilings from parts of art lit famously. my camera celebrated it in the form of long exposures. i met many people who said heart things about my work and made me feel understood. i came away from the weekend thinking of how unique a situation i am in. i've been taking photos of people and events my entire life, since i was a little girl awake at night, making backgrounds out of bedsheets tacked to my wall with pushpins, stealing film from my father and shooting ketchup on oranges. i've always been doing this, my entire life, yet it took one event, one group of people to unlock it in a way that it becomes a force, a need... not just a desire... but this all encompassing reason. there is support and encouragement. there is opportunity and genuine networking... there is a sense that if i have chocolate someone out there must have peanut butter... that people recognize this in each other, that want to share it, create a lifestyle from it, is a blessed thing. also a blessed thing, that the very people responsible for my awakening are now flying me up and putting redbull in secret stashes for me.

at the party, a girl stared at my hands and in sharpie on my knuckles wrote 'LIVE' on one hand and 'LIFE' on the other. throughout the night i would thrust them out at people watching smiles emerge. at 10pm i took my knuckles to the next party. burning man was done with me and bohemian carnival was in full force. it was like home. i felt at first rushed and tired, then i felt safe and inspired all over again. sexy girls in clown noses and wigs on trapeze, my amazing Men of Goofer took to the stage and my head and arms became pendulums. vegas sang my song. janine kissed me. shredder hooped above me. roo squeaked with me. whitney hugged me. dave's new puppet scared me.

at 3am i shared a cab with the london bm rep. he has a blue mohawk... he also has a helmet with a bigger white mohawk. i climbed creeky dark steps at jimmy's and fell into a deep sleep. morning brought me to bodhi's warehouse in oakland to shoot architectural images for him. we sat on his floor and played with his sweet dog... he took a necklace off and put it on me... it's something i will always treasure, a reminder of this amazing weekend...

my plane has just landed... the sun has just set... i am exhausted... and happy...
