Hi all,

I have updated my map for Garmin brand GPSes with 2007 data, and it is available at: www.wkeller.net/BRC-GPS/ .

Also, for the first time I took a stab at creating tracks of the city streets in GPX format, this may be useful to those with other brands of GPS.

As always, use at your own risk.

I'm curious how this was made? As of yesterday, the survey crew was still confirming actual points at the Playa.

It is done almost purely with mathematics. Given the location of The Man, and the distance and direction to key points in the city, one can fairly accurately calculate where things should be.

Does that guarantee they will actually be there? No. In 2005, the city was pretty much spot on where it was supposed to be. In 2006 the whole thing was rotated anti-clockwise about two degrees, so things weren't perfect, but they were good enough to get me where I was going.

The spreadsheet with all the point calculations is available in the files section on the web page.

By the way, I've used the GPS files the past two years and they've been a BIG help to me, especially in 2005. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

I did not bring a GPS with me this year. Was the location the same as in 06 or did they move back to the 05 site? My understanding from the BLM documents was that we were to move back to the 05 site.

    Thanks

that IS what the documents indicate, though I believe if you read further, there is a bit about if the city grows beyond a certain size, that they will then alternate between the B ('06 & '07) site and the C site, abandoning the A ('05 and before) site

or something like that. because of the slight increase in the size of the city (fenceline) this year, the event would not fit where it was in '05
(looking at the map, I can only guess that they mean that it wouldn't fit without encroaching on things they wish to protect)
