What would you like to see out of maps on the playa for next year?
Is there anything you'd like to see orgs like PlayaInfo do?
Any geo projects you have in mind?

Re: Goals for 2007?
Mon, September 25, 2006 - 10:48 AMLove to have Playa Infos map downloadable to something small, and inexpensive, like a PDA that folks already own, for use on the playa. (Vs an expensive GPS that MANY folks don't own)
Having a Map like that would be great for finding camps.
If this was available, might be interesting to invite folks to "Rate" camps.
Some camps that have prime locations are never open more than 1 hour a day. Other camps that have great gifts giving for several hours each day.
Might be nice to "Rate" camps, and have that info to playa info quick. -

Re: Goals for 2007?
Thu, January 11, 2007 - 9:12 AMhmmm, my initial reaction to rating camps is:
- a rating system would be cool if it DID NOT use a point system, but rather a reporting system allowing the reader to make their own judgement on whether they would like to make time to go there or not.
the playa experience is SO subjective, that i might rate a camp as OMG MUST SEE THIS, because of X factor that is of immense value to me & totally experiential, but that won't be the same for you.
if crieteria were things that you mention, such as, hours of operation, first visual impact, time needed to appreciate, hidden treasure, etc. then that could be of use, for sure.
- bottom line for me is let's not make it a competition! -

Re: Goals for 2007?
Thu, January 11, 2007 - 9:53 PMHi Squishe,
Yes, let's NOT make it a competition.
But a reporting system would be helpful.
Daytime vs. Night time camps.
Symbol for Dance, Bars, Rides (Yeah, there are camps that mostly offer some sort of ride), etc would be nice.
As it is, the BM.org asks the camps that apply to list what they offer in general, having a detailed map with those things listed, (symbols probably better than list of words) would be helpfull.
On another subject, have you noticed that on the BM.org website they are offering a Google Earth view of BRC 2006 ??
And it's not complete, but they are asking folks to help fill it in.
I'm kinda curious what this is trying to really accomplish ?? (OK, I can be dense).
The playa info stuff was way more detailed. The placers maps were the same detail. Unfortunately, the playa info wedsite no longer shows BRC.
I guess I'm wondering why put so much energy into a city that no longer exists, but not allow this info out before the event for people to put the energy into it to use when we get there ??
Maybe it's just me, -

Re: Goals for 2007?
Fri, January 12, 2007 - 7:11 AMI think it would be much more interesting to have BRC 2007 going on Google Earth. I actually used Sketchup and Google Earth to design our camp for 2006. It worked very well. And I agree that I don't get why they're doing it for 06 other than it being possible. -

Re: Goals for 2007?
Fri, January 12, 2007 - 4:24 PMMy point exactly.
Wouldn't it be better to get the placers map, and then put our info on that map using Google Earth.
