Afterwards

The two open mouths
of her shoes
one face down like a drunk
the other
lopsided and gaping.

Her smudged face
in the bathroom mirror
seen from the bruised sheets.

Headlights strafing curtains,
her dress shipwrecked.

Images that stay tucked
under his pillow
in the half-light
after she quietly leaves.
