Ok, so Im just starting out with poi, and new to tribes. (hello to everyone by the way!!!) Ive researched moves, had some basic workshops, got me confidance up, etc. I can do the 3-beat weave forwards, as well as leading with either hand during 2-beat. I can turn left and right and do same direction / split time on a wall plane in front of me, and I can also turn 180 and spin the poi besides me (setting up for the 3-beat weave in reverse). I can just berily start to lead a 2-beat with my left hand, but my planes are all screwed up, and I always tend to have my hands above my head (even while practiceing reverse beats with one poi at a time).
tips, suggestions? Im sure the hand hight and plane controle with come with practice. But I cant for the life of me lead a 2-beat with my right hand, or switch one hand from under to over (thus creating the 3rd beat...). hehe, help would be nice. thanks in advance! this seems like a nice place to live for a while. :)

Re: reverse 3-beat weave?
Sun, December 16, 2007 - 7:13 PMI think it is the 3 beat weave I do... not into names.. just find moves I like and learn them...
how I learn to go backwards is I started with the forward weave and then I turned around. It kinda automatically switches to reverse.. it just feels right to change while you are turning. -

Re: reverse 3-beat weave?
Sun, December 16, 2007 - 7:24 PMyeah, I've been practicing on the turns. I can spin 360 over and over again, doing my best to keep the planes correct. but when I stop at the 180 with the poi going backwards, I always seem to hit myself when I try the third beat... cus I can only lead with one hand... oh, and I can only spin around in circles going one direction. *thinks* spinning in right handed circles... I borrowed a friend's set of sock poi that were light and slow, and it 'felt' better... but still need to practice. ahhH!!! lol. thanks though!

Re: reverse 3-beat weave?
Sun, December 16, 2007 - 11:32 PMBalth, try practicing weaves with a staff instead of poi... you hold on with each hand, one on either side of the center of the staff. Once you get it with staff your hands will know what to do with the poi. -

Re: reverse 3-beat weave?
Mon, December 17, 2007 - 8:55 AMoo! SUPER slow 'poi'! lol. Never thought of that, thanks! Ive tried it with pencils while walking through work, just for fun, but the 'planes' always turned out very laughable. how'd the vid work btw? -

Re: reverse 3-beat weave?
Mon, December 17, 2007 - 4:12 PMHere is a post where I get more in-depth with my description of forwards spinning and make use of the "staff as training wheels". You can think of what I say about the forwards stuff as reversed, backwards, and/or upside down to apply it to reverse weave.

Re: reverse 3-beat weave?
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 3:12 PMThat's just how I did it. I was SOOO frustrated trying to learn it every other way, reading text and watching videos...then someone suggested this and voila! reverse. Easy Peasy.
Though i like the staff suggestion, too.
