1. Jim's response to "Take the Profit Out of Global Warming and War, Nationalize the Oil Industry" www.indybay.org/newsitems/...8501994.php

Funny thing about "consensus" about the so called "warming". ..There's no such thing as consensus in science. A fact either is, or it isn't. Several hundreds of years ago, the "consensus" was the earth is flat. 30 years ago, the consensus was there was global cooling.

Here's some actual facts for you Steve. ....

1). Global Climate Change happens. It's called weather. Earth cools, and has ice ages. Earth warms and dinosaurs florish. It is the height of human ego to think that right this moment in Earth History, is the best moment. Right now is the best for humans, so we must keep it just like this. Weather happens Steve, deal with it.

2). Just this past week, 31,000 scientists issued a report that climate warming is not happening, and in fact, the next ten years will see a cooling trend. 900 of the 31,000 have PHD's in Climatology.

3). CO2 is plant food. The more we can produce, the better the plants will grow, the less the rain will cause erosion, and the more food will be available for animals . CO2 is a good thing. Necessary for life.

4). Just this past week, one of your nut job global warming "scientists" proposed pumping sulfer into the atmosphere to block the Sun, to cool the Earth. ...Acid rain anyone ?

5). Your "cool earth" solutions include "green" light bulbs that contain mercury. Drop and break one, and you just turned your house into a toxic waste dump. Another "cool" "solution" is to turn our food into fuel, causing world wide food shortages.

6). The 'global warming caused by humans" is just a game being played by socialists to try to gain control of money and taxes and industry and to, in particular, bring harm to the US economy. (Your above post provides a nice example of this kind of repressive mentality.)

Maybe when you get a little older, and hopefully wiser, you will have enough life experiences to realise that stuff happens. Earthquakes happen, that's how you get mountains. Floods happen, thats how mountains wear down to make the plains and delta's. Volcanos happen, that's how the soil gets repenished by ash which is a great fertilizer.

It's called Weather, Steve.

2. Steven Argue's Counter Argument to Jim.

I looked over Jim's points here, and thought, wow, I must be wrong. Just kidding.

I thought it was rather funny being told that CO2 is plant food. Obviously, plants, with sunlight, do convert CO2 into sugars, starches, and cellulose. You'll get that in photosynthesis 101. The problem here is that there is now more CO2 in the atmosphere, and this is heating up the planet.

This one was particularly absurd as well:

"2). Just this past week, 31,000 scientists issued a report that climate warming is not happening, and in fact, the next ten years will see a cooling trend. 900 of the 31,000 have PHD's in Climatology."

I looked up the petition online, here it is:

www.oism.org/pproject/GWPetition.pdf

Well, since anybody can print it out and send it in, and put just about anything they want in the blanks, it's essentially worthless.

I'm thinking of sending some in for Jim...which box should I check? B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.? You seem so knowledgeable about CO2 as being plant food; maybe we should just check Ph.D. And since you are so aware of global warming being “called weather, Steve”, why don’t we just make that a Ph.D. in climatology.

Sorry, couldn't resist...

“Against stupidity the very gods themselves contend in vain.” - Friedrich Schiller

As for pumping sulfur into the atmosphere to slow global warming, this has been proposed by the Nobel Prize winning chemist Paul Crutzen. Crutzen wrote of this proposal that the preferred way to do things would be to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, "However, so far, attempts in that direction have been grossly unsuccessful." There would be a number of problems caused by Paul Crutzen’s proposal, but it is a desperate attempt to search for solutions to an extreme problem. What is really needed is a reduction greenhouse gas emissions.

On the question of bio-fuels, this is not a solution to global warming, and I have been actively opposing the idea. The following is a quote from one of my earlier articles, “Clinton and Obama: Failures on War and Global Warming”, I wrote:

“On the biggest question facing humanity, human caused global warming, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are ignoring the urgent proposals of global warming experts and instead put forward conservative proposals of carbon credit trading for big corporations and proposals for so-called “cleaner” fuels for cars. Carbon credit trading, giving big corporations the “right” to buy and sell the “right” to pollute, will undermine the ability to pass other legislation that can better curb carbon pollution. And the “cleaner” bio-fuels being proposed make no substantial difference because it takes energy involving carbon emissions to grow the plants used to make bio-fuels. In addition, rainforests that would help remove global warming causing carbon from the atmosphere are being cleared to grow bio-fuels. To make matters worse, converting food-stuffs and croplands to bio-fuels increases world food prices, causing increased world hunger.”

Obviously when Jim says, “Another 'cool' 'solution' is to turn our food into fuel, causing world wide food shortages," it is an attempt to smear me and the Cool Earth Party for what, in fact, the oil companies are doing in converting food to fuels that contribute to global warming and hunger. If you want to blame someone Jim, look at the oil companies who produce ethanol, global warming, wars, hunger, and absurd propaganda about how carbon emissions are good for the planet because CO2 is “plant food”.

  • Oh brother Stevie left his tin foil hat at home again.
    • Unsu...

Cliff doesn't care yet because he's a black bear. If he was a polar bear, he'd already know we're in trouble.
      • Yes, Steve...and this is the International year of the polar bear. The US puts the bear on a useless list and Canadian scientists infected by our Bush wannabe government decides to not even put the bear on our list. Christ! While the sea ice melts and the bears drown, its a fat lot of good that all this talk does for the polar bear.
      • Yah the polar bear is in so much trouble.
Then how come there is an excess of them?

This is so typical of the psycho left. They take a fact - an undeniable documented fact and twist around it some speculation some fancy lying some fragile predictions and insist that the facts mean something exactly opposite of what they say plainly on their face.

"Oh Look~!! There are MORE polar bears than EVER~!! Clearly this means that they are endangered~!!
How do I know this you ask? Well, I have a computer model. And into the computer program I have put that information that best suits my desired result and POOF presto chango: Who you going to believe my computer or your lying eyes? "

          An “excess” of polar bears?

There are only 20,000 to 25,000 left in the world. That is not an excess.

And less ice is causing hunger and fewer cubs are making it. As the ice disappears, the polar bear will go extinct in the wild.
        • <This is so typical of the psycho left. They take a fact - an undeniable documented fact and twist around it some speculation some fancy lying some fragile predictions and insist that the facts mean something exactly opposite of what they say plainly on their face.>

Good god, what projection! Just change Left to Right and you've got the truth. Cliff , I've looked through your links, why can't I find a single substantiated "Fact"?
  • I want to put in that Obama is much more aware of Global warming and the immediate need for action than has been reposted about his positions. He is pragmatic, however, about what can be done in the current political climate. He said at a campaign event that his proposal on Global Warming was what he thought he could get done is the Senate and Congress stayed the way it was. He then called for us to elect a more progressive body so that more could be done. I think his proposal is meant to be a starting point.

I'm personally very interested to see if Al Gore will be offered a place in his cabinet and whether Gore might accept. I would love to see Gore as the Secretary of Energy or head of the EPA but I have my doubts that Gore will re-enter politics. He seems to feel he has more impact outside of Government.

Ultimately, we need to get people elected who are willing to listen to us, then we have to pressure them to do what is needed.

Unfortunately, Bush has undercut a lot of the power of the people simply by being the first President to just ignore protest. That means, we have to fight harder than ever and not allow anyone else in who will simply ignore us. We own this country. Let's take it back.

Aside from the fact that BoZo is an ignoramous what on earth could possibly get him to leave what he's doing now?
He gets treated like a messiah
He makes lots and lots of money
No one ever asks him any penetrating questions
No one gives him any shit
      He answers to No One.

And you think he'd trade that in for:
      Being a lousy fucking employee
      earning shitloads less
      being questioned about everything
taking shit from any one who feels like dishing it out

      Why?

Obama is just another corporate politician of the Democrat Party. And Gore held power for eight years under Clinton, and didn't do a damn thing to fix the problem.
      • SO get Obama elected and then make sure he follows through with the most progressive policy on Glabal warming possible. Look, Bernie Sanders understands what's at stake and he's pushing heavy for Obama. You have to get someone in first and then hold their feet to the fire. Otherwise, your just complaining.

Now, maybe you don't agree. So, I'd like to hear an alternate stratagy. Who would you elect and how OR what would you do instead of electing someone? If you have a better idea, believe me, I will jump right on board!

I'll just make one more quick point, Everyone, Barack included, has to run as a centrist. There is no other way to get elected in America. Bush ran as a centrist and then proved to be a right wing nut-job. As I have said before, I know some things about Obama's true positions and I expect he will be a lot more progressive in office than he has been on the campaign trail. Remeber how FDR ran and look at what he did once in office.
        • >>>>>>>>>>>>I'll just make one more quick point, Everyone, Barack included, has to run as a centrist.

If he has to run as a centrist, than the system is broken. It is a myth that the center means the majority of people. I have sometimes noticed that while it doesn't happen all the time, I have seen the left and right agree on somethings that the center doesn't agree with, albeit for different reasons.

Now I am not saying don't vote for Obama, at least for the purpose of this argument, but when system does ignore much of the demands and needs of the people, the solution is often not a very polite way.

Why the hell is it so chilly at the end of May? I prefer to choke my chicken in the nude at least 6 months a year, but this cold weather is fucking up my schedule. Gettin all goose bumpy n shit. I'm gonna go spray some right guard out the window. Think that'll help?

Lindzen described Exxon Mobil as "the only principled oil and gas company I know in the US." "They have a CEO who is not going to be bamboozled by nonsense," he adds. Professor Lindzen wants the debate on global warming kept alive. He also describes the Royal Society letter as a "disgrace," adding "they don't know what they're talking about."
Source: BBC News, "Science Climate Conflict Warms Up," April 26, 2007

      unitedcats.wordpress.com/2007/...eptic/

There are a few problems with the recent Newsweek article by Dr Lindzen, well known global warming skeptic. The first is that he is portrayed as a heroic scientist selflessly bucking the global warming mainstream, the Newsweek article was even careful to point out that: “His research has always been funded exclusively by the U.S. government. He receives no funding from any energy companies.” This is misleading at best, a lie at worst. Dr. Lindzen charges $2500 a day for his consulting services to the coal and oil industry. He has been paid to travel to Washington by same to testify against global warming, he has been paid by a global warming denial think tank, and he’s even taken money from OPEC. Maybe his work at MIT is government funded, but he’s made some nice money from various big energy concerns, not to mention being paid for writing hit pieces against global warming. Being a highly credentialed global warming skeptic is a good way to make money, and Dr Lindzen is cashing in nicely.

Even more fun, let’s look at his research. People have reviewed his scientific papers, and guess what they discovered: Except when Dr Lindzen is writing for media outlets like Newsweek or the Wall Street Journal, he is a major proponent of man made global warming. He co-authored the 2001 National Academy of Science’s report on climate change for example. This study also endorsed the the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report that was “virtually certain” that a long list of negative outcomes from global warming is to be expected. People who think that Dr Lindzen’s credentials give veracity to his global warming “skepticism:” Click on the above two links and see what Dr Lindzen really thinks about global warming.

      Here’s a hint:

In 2005, James Annan offered to take Lindzen, the MIT meteorologist, up on his bet that global temperatures in 20 years will be cooler than they are now. However, no wager was ever settled on because Lindzen wanted odds of 50-to-1 in his favour. This meant that for a $10,000 bet, Annan would have to pay Lindzen the entire sum if temperatures dropped, but receive only $200 if they rose.

“Richard Lindzen’s words say that there is about a 50 percent chance of [global] cooling,” Annan wrote about the bet. “His wallet thinks it is a 2 percent shot. Which do you believe?”

So I thank all those who brought Dr Lindzen’s Newsweek article to my attention. I urge everyone to take Dr Lindzen’s credentials as a scientist very seriously, he is a major proponent of man made global warming and the more people that know that the better, spread the word! The fact that the good doctor is perfectly willing to accept money for saying different in public may say something about his character, but has no bearing on global warming science.
