Re: Arab Honor Killings
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 9:09 AMYou must learn to respect other cultures. If Arabs view killing of a female family member over "honor" as not being a crime, or only a minor crime and not murder, who are you to JUDGE them?
How dare you! -

Thu, July 2, 2009 - 9:10 AMAlso, America has done many bad things, so you have no right to JUDGE Arabs.
How dare you! -

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 11:41 AMIn this country we only put the retarded to death (unless they are politicians) but our woman folk are sacred. Of course we've killed them too.

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 12:21 PMToo bad we didn't put the Bush administration to death. -

Thu, July 2, 2009 - 4:13 PMRetarded politicians get a pass. -

Re: Arab Honor Killings

Thu, July 2, 2009 - 9:31 PMReally, when you look at it in context, Arab honor killings are no big deal. Nothing can compare to the evil of the USA. -

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 9:33 PMAccording to my sources, Arab honor killings are actually the product of CIA intermeddling in the Mid East. Just like everything else that is wrong in the world, the CIA is behind it. -
-
Re: Arab Honor Killings
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 9:36 PMNow see I find that hard to believe. For one the terms CIA and honor just don't go together. And if they did have honor then they were busy overthrowing the wrong governments the past 8 years.

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 9:34 PMIt wasn't that long ago in the US history that we used to lynch black men for looking at a white woman. We forget how far and not so far we have come in this country. It's a tendency this country has to have just walked out of a manure pile and declare ourselves clean smelling. Not to forgive the killing but education works better than finger wagging. -

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 5:08 PMAgreed; understanding is key - for starters, the understanding that our own honor-free culture is unbelievably heinous, indefensibly hypocritical, and downright scatological on average.
For instance, "Here in America we treat our women with respect". WTF?
If you're sitting there wondering "what? I don't get it" then just chop your own hands off, honorless dogs. -

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 11:33 PMLots of opinion there Loki.
In my opinion, you are losing it. -

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Sat, July 4, 2009 - 11:06 AMThat is uncalled for.
But I think most of us, can agree that women do get treated better here than most of the Muslim world. But that doesn't mean it is all coming up roses, as the more fundie parts of the US still doesn't give women full respect. The lack of burqas is not a guarantee that women are free.
Perhaps we should have a woman in this tribe speak up about this. -

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Sat, July 4, 2009 - 11:54 AMLack of burqas.?
How fucking hilarious. In most of these countries women face a violent death for getting raped and have hardly any legal rights.
Hell, in SA women are not even allowed to drive or leave their home without a male relative. And yet you guys try to compare that to what goes on in the US?
You people are just delusional and have a pathological need to fault everything to the US

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Sat, July 4, 2009 - 5:36 PMSo you think that burqas are a good thing. Now that it delusional.

Mon, July 6, 2009 - 11:28 AM<<The lack of burqas is not a guarantee that women are free. >>
Yeah the bra instead of the burqa is our symbol for oppression of women.
Ban the burqa! In the name of freedom!
Ban the bra too! in the name of freedom!
In fact, for women (our women) to be truly free from the evils of oppression and tyranny we should ban women from being able to wear any clothing at all.
For freedom!

Re: Arab Honor Killings
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 4:17 AMHint: are they "our" women? really?
Hint2: "it's worse elsewhere, though" - is the fallacy of ______ ______? google and wikis can help out, here; attacking me might be entertaining but "you're losing it" is pretty weak; I hope we can all agree there, at least. I offer so many targets and low-hanging fruit - surely there's something for even a person of particularly gullible nature, with a weak grasp of language and no understanding of history or political science to latch onto and get distracted by..? Read my blog; there's lots of dirt in there.
Yes, it is *my opinion* that ethnocentrism and ignorant cultural relativism are bad platforms for political discourse and toxic to diplomacy, true.
>>It's a tendency this country has to have just walked out of a manure pile and declare ourselves clean smelling.<<
not to mention castigating everyone around us, screaming "you all smell like shit" -

---but you are the opposite extreme of this, finding fault in everything about the USA, finding nothing good or of value in the USA, and sparing no effort in apologizing for the fault of other countries, cultures or societies in order to prop up your theory that the USA is the worst of all.
It doesn't make for the basis of an intelligent discussion. Self loathing and self hatred is not the answer to jingoism or blind patriotism. Neither approach leads to the truth.
