Re: Terminator robots could trigger Armageddon, murder millions
Mon, August 10, 2009 - 6:50 AMThat's why I say artificially intelligence mechanisms should be programmed with the Laws of Robotics. If that were the case, then robots could never be used in warfare (unless they have non-lethal weapons). -

Re: Terminator robots could trigger Armageddon, murder millions
Tue, August 11, 2009 - 1:24 PMOn every landmass there are machines that are killing people by action and lack of action now. These machines are people. You don't need Terminator robots, we are doing just fine as it is. Before we start trying to fix something that, quite frankly does not exist at this time, maybe we should do something to fix the most dangerous preditor on the planet now. -

Re: Terminator robots could trigger Armageddon, murder millions
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 4:54 AMMachines have the capability to be ethical.
Humans don't have this capacity.
Machines could wade into a crowd and shoot only the targets they're programmed for, ignoring assailants, not caring about injury, not reacting to fear.
People who are afraid of robot soldiers strike me as having a strangely reversed sense of danger. The idea that machines could take over fighting doesn't cause me any anxiety at all. The idea that "machines will run amok" utterly ignores that "humans have been running amok as long as they've been on the planet".
I assume it's that folks infra-consciously feel they are *allowed* to run amok, have the *right* to run amok - that it's a terrible crime for people to be *prevented* from running amok. -
