Re: to jam or not to jam?
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 9:42 PMI went to the watershed tonight. Arrived around 8:15 or so.. the entrances were closed, no signs or anything for any sort of meeting.
A few cars out back, but not to the extent that I saw last time I was there.
So I don't know what is going on, supposed to have had a meeting June 22nd, if there was then I guess only the people that are part of the "in" crowd were able to attend.
I sure wasn't going to go start pulling on random closed doors to see if any would open for me. -

Re: to jam or not to jam?
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 10:19 PMEh my last post is a lot harsher than it has any right to be.
I am rather pissed/sad/depressed.
I haven't done anything with fire since 4/20, and am starting to get edgy.
I was seriously contemplating going "renegade" under the bridge after driving all the way out to the Watershed to find nobody there.
Fortunately for the community, unfortunately for me, I am blessed/cursed with common sense, a small understanding of how negotiations work and a pretty deep rooted respect for the law.
Though honestly, I don't know how much longer I can go without at least breathing.
I don't cry much, but I lost some tears tonight when I realized I wasn't burning anywhere.
Hopefully something happens soon for at least some sort of legit gathering to burn on a semi-regular basis.
Unfortunately Saturday and Sunday night are the only nights I can stay out pat 7 or 8pm since I have a job that starts at 4am.
I've tried thinking up on my own some way to gather, but I've hit a dead end. -

Re: to jam or not to jam?
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 1:33 AMhrmm... Deb showed up at 8:20 and wandered in the red door out back, which is the one that almost everyone uses all the time. I was sitting inside typing thinking about other things - we hadn't posted any reminders in this tribe, so I had forgotten it too - though Ang (who is working tonight) and Deb were the ones who called the meeting.
Pretty much I think it fell off of people's radars, being now summer and sunny and such. Keep in mind that I am posting here as the host, not the organizer - reminders and such would have been a good idea.
Let me inquire as to some of your assumptions. Why NOT open a door or two, or at least see if they were unlocked? The door at the south end would have led you into the dojo, where the crafty people would have sent you down the hall. The door in the back was unlocked and I was sitting there, and deb was standing there within five minutes of your arrival. I'm not entirely convinced that other days, given the need to keep the place hot or cold, the 'doors would have been open with signs'.
How far out did you have to drive? -

Re: to jam or not to jam?
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 7:42 AMProbably not as far as others but I came out from Vancouver.
As far as not opening doors.
How comfortable are you walking around pulling on doors to see if they open to a place you have only been to once before in your life?
Were it a regular store, shop or some other form of place with at least an "Open" sign, then yes I would have tried the door with the sign that said open or come on in or something.
I am not sure what red door you are referring to, as I have only been there once. The one time I was there the garage type doors in the front were wide open and everyone I was expecting to see were pretty much congregated in that area.
Maybe there was something on the red door that I did not know existed, maybe it was even wide open, I don't know.
I don't search doors and buildings for entrances that have the appearance of being closed to the general public.
Just my take on it.

Re: to jam or not to jam?
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 5:33 PMSorry I couldn't make it yesterday.
Thanks Jodans for making the trek out, sorry that it wasn't more than you got... I did know Debs did go (Thanks Debs!)...
The last time we met, there we like 7 or 8 people who trickled in. Two topics were focused on, current and future Fire Dept. permitting and the Fire Jam. It seemed that more talk and energy was spent on the latter. We talked about other alternatives to either trying to continue fire performances under permitted systems at Salmon St. or in other places (parks, public, or private properties) to have the jam in another location. As of right now there is no 'open fire' at any parks without going through a Parks permitting system (like reserving the park for family/company/wedding parties... using the public park for a private event). It's still unclear to me what that involves since fees and insurance come into play. I personally haven't had time to go down to Parks and find this out. They have said there is a system for this and are clearing Salmon St. as an approved park.
At the last meeting people agreed to meet again (once a month) to keep this going. We hoped to share new findings in logistical Parks permitting or new locations to spin (several individuals were on the look out). I would have liked to have gone, and I hope to have some time soon that I can personally find out more information and share back with... but as of right this moment I couldn't do either.
Are people wanting to meet again, regularly for either of the two topics brought up at the first meeting? -

Re: to jam or not to jam?
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 12:42 PMI feel horrible we didn't get to make it on the 22nd.
Baby Time is getting hella close, and I threw my back out, on top of everything.
So my socializing is all but nil, for now. I barely even make it to the library to check emails, anymore *le sigh*
I'd love to still try meeting up regularly to work on stuff n' things. But I tack on an uncertainty clause with anything I agree to do >.<
