bike trailer / stroller

I swear I saw it here...but after searching through this tribe I can't find it. We want to get a two-seater bike trailer that converts to a stroller - any recommendations? Does anyone have one that they love? Hate? Where did you find yours?

After a shit-ton of research by my husband Sage, we bought a chariot side car for PK's upcoming birthday - but that's only for one kiddo, and were planning on using it exclusively for bike riding, and my husband likes to see and talk to her while he's riding with her. They do make double carriers, and I think that it's a great brand if you're planning on using it for multiple uses - hiking, hiking, strolling, even xc skiing! They start as expensive as a new Burley, but from what my husband says, they're built better, and the warranty rocks. We bought ours at REI, which, according to Sage, it was the best deal around.

If you're on a budget though, you may want to look on Craigslist for a used Burley.

I have to say, the work my husband puts into researching hobby oriented stuff (biking, kayaking, camping) is insane. If he only put half of that energy into helping me clean my house, this house would be spotless!!

Yeah, everyone I have talked to has said Burley.

great thread, Kimberlee! Thanks for the link.

I also should add that we've just started using our Chariot Sidecar when she was about 10 months. She's a rather tall girl (in 12-18 month clothes), and her motor skills are pretty on par with a 12 month old, so we thought we would start her on very short trips with our bikes.

Thanks. I so wish we could take our little guy out sooner, but his safety is most important. I see a lot of people in Missoula with Chariots (which is also a factor of what the bike shops around here sell).

We have some time before we get a bike trailer, but we started looking early because we considered the combo trailer and stroller, but then read that the hinges give out on those quickly.

We're still looking at strollers for now, bike trailer will wait.

am i reading the above thread correctly...? is it not safe to bike with a baby under 12 months, or is that just in a sidecar/trailer? i was thinking of getting a bike seat, the kind you put above your back wheel, for my 6.5 month old. i hope that's safe! i am sooo stir crazy and need exercise!

good luck finding the right transformer-esque baby item!

I was told not to use a bike seat with my daughter until she is about 1 because they have to wear a helmet and the bumps can strain their neck while wearing the helmet. You can get a bike trailer and put the baby inside with the car seat.

                  Good to know.

Although I've never felt comfortable with the bike seat idea, probably because I'm overweight and feel like my poor bike is going to collapse under the strain of just me, LOL! The bike trailer idea just seems like a safer solution.

My little guy just turned 5 months, and was just given the OK to start solid (heh, i.e., pureed) foods. Hoping with the extra sleep this should give me, I'll have the energy to start getting exercise again. Just working and being a Mom is wearing me out too much to add biking or hiking to the mix. Sigh.

The poor dogs haven't been walked in over a month. :P

hey snoopy, just want to give you the heads up that there isn't necessarily a connection between their eating solid foods and sleeping more. this is what i'd thought, and i think also why people of another generation push us to give them solid foods too/so early. maybe yours will respond with more sleep. if so, yay!

i started solids with titus a couple weeks ago, and while he absolutely loves it and it gives us something else to fill our time with, he doesn't sleep more as a result.

i feel ya on the difficulties of adding exercise to what already feels like an exhausting routine! i think it's best if we do, even in small amounts, though, for our own long-term health. i'm wishing us both luck!

                      Food <> sleep?

Formula == more sleep. Food no = more sleep?

                      Aigh!!!!!!!!!!

                      ;)

                      Oh, well.

I guess I'll just keep doing what I've been doing: sleeping 16 hours a day on the weekends, LOL!
