For those of you that cosleep, how do you handle the colder weather without using blankets? Do you actually just dress warmer, or do you just go ahead and use them, carefully?

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 1:06 PMDoh, I should have been clearer... I have things to put her in for sleeping, I'm more interested in what YOU do in terms of blankets, clothing, etc. I don't want to have to bundle myself up in a bunch of clothes to go to bed, but I worry about her around the blankets.

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 6:51 PMI just did baby and I in one comforter and daddy in a separate one. For us this worked out pretty well. My husband and I might cuddle for a while under one blanket but when the real sleeping happens we need different temperatures since he was born in Scotland and I was born in the tropics. -

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 10:08 PMIn the very beginning, we used the baby sleep sacks and she slept on top of our covers and blankets and then we began to use our blankets carefully arranged with her between us. It has worked for almost two years for us so far. And we have been living in a super chilly climate in the winter.

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 5:52 AMwe like a midweight down comforter with a zippered/buttoned duvet cover, a feather bed on top of the mattress and flannel sheets.
if it was *really* cold, we put a hat on her, but we never added extra blankets or sheets because of the risk of getting tangled up. -

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 9:03 AMFor Rocco's first winter, I dressed him super warm and he slept in my arms. We are still co-sleeping at 27 months, and now I have to fight to keep any blankets for myself!! He's a total space-taker-upper.
I know you are not supposed to use blankets with an infant, but our house just gets way too cold. I did keep Rocco in my arms, and on the outside, not the middle. Papa is a deep sleeper and I was more worried about him doing something by accident.
I also dress very warmly for bed, like a shirt, sweatshirt, pants, and socks. Sometimes 2 pairs of socks. If you are worried about blankets and baby, maybe get one of those snuggie blankets? -

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 11:18 AMI always used covers with Anaya, she slept on my chest when she was small enough but after that she slept with her head on my arm so we were face to face, we never had a problem with her getting tangled in the covers. I could always feel her breathe. -

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 1:35 PMI do use blankets, but I worry about it from time to time (you know, when I run out of OTHER things to worry about). I sleep nekkid, or in a light nightgown, so bundling up in a bunch of clothes would drive me nuts. I usually just keep her really close to me, and manage the blankets around us, but was wondering what everyone else was doing. Glad to hear I'm not the only one not following "the rules" of cosleeping to the letter.

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 11:21 AMditto here- we used a top sheet and comforter along with whatever our jammie-clothes were. He was 3-4 months old before it got cold so i was a lot less worried than with a newborn. -

Re: Cosleeping in Winter?
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 1:25 PMAll the kids were born in the dead of winter and while we didnt 'co-sleep' right away they did sleep in a cradle right next to me. we just used a baby nightgown and good ol' swaddling. If it was extra cold we would use an extra blanket around the swaddle tucked under the babes.
