Ok,
Please tell me that I'm not the only one who's gone through this - I nurse PK to sleep. She's been tired when I put her to bed, but she's been ridiculously crazy as of late. She wiggles and climbs over me, she stands up (!) and bends down to nurse, she flips, and twists and keeps latched the whole time. I *know* she's tired, but she does this and it almost seems like it's involuntary thing, and she totally cannot get to sleep when she's in this state.
So, can anyone offer some advice (please!) or can at least tell me that I or my little one is not crazy?

Re: Crazy Crawly Climby Sleeper!
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 9:54 PMsounds very familiar. It is a regular routine for my little one. It is sort of cute, especially the standing up nursing with her butt up in the air. She looks like a cute little curcus act. It can get tiring. I have described her as a worm on a hook when she gets all flippy, standy, wiggly like that.
I try and lay her down on her side to nurse. If that does not work i have made her a bottle, and she has gone down right away. For me it has been her not getting enough. yes nursing is soothing to her, but when she has done this and not settled when i laid her down, she seemed to just be hungrier than i was able to satisfy. SHe would typically take 4-6 ounces fast and then crash for real.
i don't know if a bottle is an option for you, but it seems to work for us. I just have to remember it before the circus goes too late.

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 11:20 AMsoftly blow on her eyes. Works like a charm for me when my little one gets like that. They automatically close their eyes and it reminds them they are tired. But you have to do it of course well before she's standing up and flipping out of gentle blowing range. :) -

Re: Crazy Crawly Climby Sleeper!
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 2:22 PMha ha- i know it weel. We call it the "Nurni-olympics" for our wolrd-champion acrobat. It does seem the more tired he gets, the more spastic the he is. My solution is to lie down and side nurse, making him lie down next to me, then throwing my leg and arm over him before he gets a chance to rev up. We actually swaddled up until 18-19 months, now i use my body as the swaddle.
good luck! -

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 8:35 PMBlowing in the eyes... must remember.
Holding him down while side-nursing, yeah, I sorta do that. At least with one arm. ;)
I also sing to him and play a little with him. Once he's happy and not fighting the "sleep monster" so much, he remembers, "oh yeah, I'm hungry", and starts eating again.
Otherwise, he turns to eat, then turns away as his little brain remembers that "Mommy's milk makes me go beddy-bye! Avoid! Avoid!" ;)
Of course, as he's avoiding it, he's also getting all squirley, and then also complaining still about being hungry, LOL! Knucklehead. ;)
