I do my 6-week checkup next week and would like to do the mini-pill. How have others done on it?

    hated it!

    My periods were bass-ackwards!

3 weeks on, 1 week off. I was also bf'ing so I dont know if that had anything to do with it. That was with baby #2. Baby #3 I went the Depo route and hated that too. I think my body just hates birth control.

good to know, aside from periods, did the mini pill make you crazed like depo does for many women?

i did well on the regular pill, but no way am i going depo--too many horror stories

If you're not nursing, why not go with a regular combined OC? Are you trying to avoid the estrogen?

The mini-pill has a slightly lower "taken correctly" rate because it has to be taken every day, as opposed to the one-week-off perk of the combined OCs. But, it's totally do-able.

My theory is this...the best birth control method is the one that YOU will use consistently and correctly.

i tried the mini-pill and started bleeding within 10 days of taking it, and that was literally 10 days after i stopped shedding lochia. can you say UNHAPPY CAMPER?!??

that combined with the fact that i couldn't seem to take it at the exact same time every day (which apparently you have to do, otherwise it's level of efficiency goes down even more) made me chuck it straight into the can. my husband and i just didn't trust it so we decided to scrap it. thinking about having a 3rd baby this soon is mortifying for both of us and there was no way we were going to be able to enjoy intimacy if we were worried about our BC not working.

i'm considering and IUD but i have some mental blocks surrounding a foreign object being even semi-permanently lodged up in there. (up in WHERE?!)

i am a maor fan of the IUD, either mirena or copper. If you don't plan on another kid in the next three years, it's also the most economical.

I did the copper IUD. It totally messed with my body and emotional state. Am I crazy? I know it's not hormonal but I was in a very weird place after getting it. My body ended up pushing it out a few weeks later so I don't know if it would have subsided if it would have stayed in place. *shrugs* Oh well, guess it wasn't for me and my uterus agreed. I still think they are a really good option for BC.

yes, it's the estrogen thing--had enough milk supply issues already that i don't want to make it worse

we may want another in a year, so iud is out for now

i was hoping there was better reactions, but good to know that i should stock up on pads and even try the diva cup i bought a week before finding out i was pregnant!

If yoou are worried about your milk supply DONT take the mini-pill. The doctors will tell you it won't affect your supply but IT WILL. I just got the copper IUD fitted and it is great! No hormones and I was back to myself in no time :)

              DITTO.

It dried up my milk significantly with my first baby.

Now, unfortunately...we just use the rhythm method and pray that it works. So far....I've only gotten pregnant when it was during the "fertile times" (Well, rhythm mixed with pullout)

So, yeah, be careful if you are breastfeeding. Some women don't notice a thing...but I certainly did.

I just fitted a woman for a diaphragm yesterday. I know that barrier methods such as diaphragms and condoms aren't as reliable as IUD's or hormones, but they ARE better than the rhythm method- especially with how irregular postpartum periods are- or doing nothing. And absolutely no drug side effects.

I tried the diaphragm and got a RAGING infection. Vaginal and Urinal. It was HORRIBLE. I'm destined to either condoms or rhythm. Luckily my periods are like absolute clockwork.

at the risk of being considered an absolute freak -- in case i'm the only one who's had this experience -- i have used the minipill after both my kids with no problems whatsoever. and i breastfed my first baby almost 15 months (stopped when i found out i was pregnant again) and am weaning my 2nd now at almost 18 months. from what i hear, i'm incredibly lucky in that my periods didn't come back till i started weaning, which was more than a year after each birth. i never had any trouble with my milk supply but i actively tried to keep production up with diet and water consumption, so that may have offset any POP effects.

you DO have to take the minipill consistently. i got pregnant with my 2nd baby b/c i missed it one day and my periods had just recently returned. (i'd had one cycle and then realized i'd missed my pill one day about 17 hours late, after having sex. oops.)

i tried the IUD after my 2nd baby but wasn't able to use it. it wouldn't go in properly, which i think has to do entirely with my personal physical construction. (things are kind of tilted in there.)

i'll be going off the minipill for good as soon as my hubby's vasectomy results come back negative. two was our target, and we hit it and are happy there, and i'll be glad not to have any more artificial hormones going in. however, if i were going to stay on the pill for BC, i would continue to use the minipill b/c there's no estrogen. when used "correctly," it's supposed to be just as reliable as the combo pill.

but of course, i am an erring human, and so let's just say i'll be glad when i can go off it entirely. ;) best of luck!
