Hey my name is Sarah and I am a member of the Bay Area dance force Ultra Gypsy. We're invading the Pacific Northwest on April 13-22nd so watch out! Just want to make sure the peeps up north take advantage of the crazy knowledge our members have. Privates are available with bellydance legend Jill Parker, Ultra Gypsy's Co-Director Rose Harden, Sarah White (me) and Debra Rubin (for yoga).
My thesis was on the art and culture of the Romany people, so I have a wealth of first-hand in-the-field experience living with Gypsies being the first ever to document certain dance styles from India, Egypt, and Turkey. Want to learn? We're excited to meet you, so contact us at ultragypsyrose@hotmail.com to schedule your privates. check out www.ultragypsy.com (tour page)
Sarah White is a San Francisco native with a degree in Performing Arts & Social Justice from Friends World Program. She has completed detailed ethnographic research documenting the arts of Romany people spending a year with the Kalbeliya "Gypsies" in Rajasthan, studying with a Roman ("Gypsy") family in Istanbul, and the women of the Zar (a trance dance) in Cairo. Sarah has an extensive performance background with training in 25 different dance forms, martial arts, gymnastics, and the flying trapeze. Growing up Sarah was in the Destiny Arts Youth Performance Company, a diverse group who addressed pressing social issues through dance, theater, and spoken word. She was the star dancer in Neil Young's internationally touring movie and rock-opera 'Greendale' and has been a member of Project Bandaloop Youth Group (an aerial dance company) and Ultra Gypsy Dance Theatre Company since she was 16.
