* TRAVEL QUEERIES is a documentary movie about queer identity
in more than 10 European communities. Through a combination of
interviews, live action footage and animated segments, Travel Queeries
reveals and compares how individuals, groups, and communities define
and use "queer" as a political identity. From a historic queer housing
project in East Berlin, to queer festivals in Copenhagen and Belgrade,
to interviews with organizers of the London-based collective "Queers
without Borders", the filmmakers reveal the layers of meaning of
"queer" within vastly different European backdrops. The Travel
Queeries promotional trailer will be screened at both shows.

Saturday March 18th - 7-9pm (i'm looking for a date if anybody's up for a drink afterward)

We're in MainSpace both times, same room as last time on the 2nd floor (Velocity = 915 E. Pine St in the OddFellows Hall).
The space is giant with wood floors and one length of wall is completely mirrored. Some mats provided by me and some by the space.
Wood dance floors means you need to be sure to PROTECT YOUR SHARP BITS (staff ends, nuts, bolts, studded/spiked jewelry...etc)- not that we've ever had a problem with that, just wanna make sure we're nice to their floors. Velocity is a place that I have a ton of respect for.

I hope to see lots of you there......because it's nice to get folks together and because I don't wanna eat the cost of renting that HUGE room! Don't be shy....this is absolutely not exclusive to any one group, but it's focus is on circus and movement related practice. This is not intended to be a class. I only ask two things 1) don't damage anything in the room and 2) don't hog all the space.

Donations are nice. I usually ask for $1-$5 to cover renting the space.

This one is smaller than the theater we had last time, but still huge. There are mirrored walls, stereo access and marley floors. Marley floors are non-slip rubber/vinyl floors intended for dancers and although it appears to be a protective cover, I don't want to risk scratching it. So please remember to protect your sharp bits (fire staff ends, nuts/bolts, studded belts, etc....). There will be no shoes allowed on the marley floor. Bring whatever you feel you need to practice on. Fire practice tools and hoops are most common but don't let that stop you from bringing more. Stilts are ok, but if you are not experienced with them please bring a spotter and stay far away from the big windows.
Be there on time as we'll need to start cleaning up for the next renter at 5:20.

For everybody that's not on the "Slinging in the Rain" tribe, below is a reminder for an event that I've organized this Thursday. Come if you have something that you'd like to work on in a large, mirrored, heated room. Come if you want to photograph it. Come if you want to be social. Come if you want to participate in any way.
read below......

REMINDER:

Thursday December 15th, 8-10pm, room: MainSpace @ Velocity Studios. NOTE: not the MainSpace Theater.
Price: $1-$5 to cover rent. depends on how many people show up.

Remember: we'll be on wood floors and we need to take care of them, so no sharp or heavy objects. skill levels and egos aside, if it can scratch a floor then please fix it or leave it at home. a good example would be a standard fire staff: the ends are wick'd but the shaft is still poking through the ends. a good solution: cover the ends with as many socks as it takes to blunt the edges. same with chains that have bolts sticking out the ends.

spanks.
see y'all thursday.
