have you seen the commercial where the heavily mustached old woman in a black shroud drinks strawberry Nestle's quik and turns into a buxom bombshell in pasties and a g-string, and she squats down for a second in a mud puddle, and when she gets up, her buttocks are covered with leeches, and Jesus appears holding a barbie and two beams of shining particles shoot from the eyes of the barbie and vaporize the leeches, and the bombshell gets on her motorcycle and pink florets of exhaust spurt from its tailpipe spelling the words "be all that you can be"?

I've never actually attended a school dance.
I was naturally repelled from the beginning,
not to mention that I only once remember ever even *hearing* of a school dance going on,
and that was when i was informed by mail that the school I hadn't attended in who knows how long,
would not let me attend prom.
Oh darn.

Needless to say, I can't be an authority on the subject, so

Lets hear your stories about school dances.

Short versions, please ;)

Dead Baby Found in Trash At School Prom, Police Say

Yet another reason to boycott prom night
nytimes.com

June 9, 1997

By MICHAEL COOPER
A New Jersey high school student attending her senior prom Friday night quietly left the banquet hall for the bathroom, gave birth to a baby boy in a stall, threw its body in the garbage and returned to the party and danced with her boyfriend, officials said.

The student -- an 18-year-old woman from Forked River, N.J., who was not identified by the authorities because she has not been charged with a crime -- attracted no special notice when she rejoined the prom after giving birth, taking a seat alongside classmates from Lacey Township High School, according to the officials.

Now Monmouth County prosecutors are awaiting a coroner's report to learn whether the baby was born alive. If he was, his mother could face murder or manslaughter charges.

''The key is whether or not this child ever took a breath,'' John Kaye, the Monmouth County Prosecutor, said in an interview yesterday.

The baby's body was bruised and scratched, but it was unclear whether the injuries contributed to his death, Mr. Kaye said.

The Lacey Township High School prom began around 7 P.M. on Friday in Garden Manor, a catering hall popular with wedding parties, on Route 35 in Aberdeen Township. About 360 guests arrived, in tuxedos and tulle, for a night of dining and dancing before going to Wildwood, a nearby beach resort where Lacey students traditionally spend the weekend after the prom.

The prom had barely begun when the young woman went to the ladies' room and entered a stall, according to officials who based their account on interviews with students. Mr. Kaye, the prosecutor, said a classmate who was in the bathroom at the time and heard strange noises. ''The girl said, 'Are you O.K.? Is anything wrong?' '' he said. ''The answer was, 'I'm fine.' ''

Classmates first discovered that something was amiss when several girls went to the restroom and found a scene of bloody floors and walls, with soiled paper towels littering the floor, prosecutors said.

They alerted the cleaning staff. ''The cleaning lady went in to straighten up the stalls, and she took those paper towels and soiled paper and put it in a larger disposal wastebasket,'' said Elaine Leschot, the prosecutor handling the case. ''When she lifted the wastebasket to change the bag, it was too heavy, and she was a little bit concerned and nervous.''

The cleaning woman asked a fellow employee to look inside the wastebasket, Ms. Leschot said. ''That person found the baby.''

The discovery of the body sparked frantic attempts to revive the six-pound, six-ounce baby, prosecutors said. Teachers chaperoning the prom tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but to no avail. Emergency workers and police officers arrived and tried again, with no success.

Teachers quietly canvassed students, eventually finding the mother and taking her to a local hospital for treatment. She was released on Saturday night to her parents.

Few people knew that the young woman was pregnant. ''The only person that I know of who knew that she was pregnant was her,'' Mr. Kaye said, adding that it was unclear whether her prom date was the baby's father.

As the situation unfolded, the school staff was so discreet that some students were apparently oblivious to the drama playing out around them. ''There was an effort to keep things normal while the medical situation was being handled,'' Richard Starodub, the Lacey schools superintendent, told the Asbury Park Press.

The attempts to revive the child may have complicated the investigation. To determine whether a baby ever drew breath, Mr. Kaye said, medical examiners typically perform tests to see if there is any oxygen in the baby's lungs.

''In this case, so many people tried heroically to save the child that they may have put air in the child,'' he said.

As a result, Mr. Kaye said, the medical examiner will have to perform a series of chemical tests that could take a week or more to determine whether the baby ever lived. In the meantime, the young mother will remain at home in Forked River.

Dozens of Girls Booted from Prom in Louisiana for Revealing Dresses

Monday , April 16, 2007

MARRERO, La. —

Dozens of girls were turned away from a prom at Higgins High School because a teacher thought their dresses were too revealing.
Families of the girls said the teacher cited alleged violations of the Jefferson Parish schools dress code, most of them related to excessive display of cleavage.

"I was embarrassed," said Miranda Melerine, 17, a senior at the Marrero high school, who was among those barred by teacher Judy Gardner, an adviser to senior activities. "We can't go back to prom night. Prom's over. Our prom has been stolen from us."

Melerine said she is larger-busted than many of the girls who passed inspection at the door. She said it is harder for her to get the right fit in a prom dress and that Gardner gave her blessing to a picture of the dress long before the dance.

Earlis Fayette, 18, said his girlfriend also was sent away by Gardner at the door.

"I find it's wrong, because you can't help what the girl has. You're born with that," he said. "I think it was discrimination toward a woman who has features."

Gardner refused to talk with parents who rushed to the dance hall Friday night after frantic calls from daughters. She also declined comment Saturday to The Times-Picayune of New Orleans, saying she is not allowed to talk to the press. The Associated Press could not locate her Sunday.

But Jefferson Parish schools spokesman Jeff Nowakowski said Gardner did nothing wrong and that the ones in error were girls who showed up with dresses that didn't comply with a district code that says: "A student will not wear clothing that exposes the student's back, chest or midriff."

The policy, which also strictly restricts any use of fishnet or see-through clothing, has been in effect for years and is included in a handbook that parents sign, Nowakowski said.

He said that students who didn't gain admittance Friday night were given a chance to leave and alter their dresses to bring them into compliance, and that some did that.

Twenty to 25 girls "didn't meet the code and so they were turned away because they didn't want to fix the dress in order to come inside," Nowakowski said. "It should have covered the breast, and that's not what happened last night."

"Prom" according to the urban dictionary:

Prom
1.)A complete waste of time. I seriously wonder why they organize Dances at a School. They expect you to have fun, but what's the catch?
Jeremy: Hey Vincet, I'm going to the Prom with Linda. Want to tag along?
Vincent: Sorry, Jeremy, but I'm not interested in a school dance where they hire crappy DJs and make crappy cardboard cutouts for decorations.

2) Prom in the USA is a big event at the end of the last year at school. The general idea for most students is to get as drunk as possible and lose your virginity, possibly, but not necessarily, to the person who is your date. Anyone who is going to be able to handle the real world will either hate the prom or just won't go.

3.) Prom
An event that stupid people think is the "pinnacle of you high school career". Really it's just a way for guys to pay $300 and girls $150 to bone each other. You prance around like an idiot to crappy rap music. Some people feel like they missed out on something important because they skipped prom. Those people are retards.

Douche Bag:"Dude, you goin to Prom next Saturday"
Pro:"Fuck no shits a waste of money"
Douche Bag:"ha you just couldn't get a date"
Pro:"Well I'll be fucking your mom on saturday does that count as a date?
