ive been such a powerhouse today, i came back to chicago on july 29. i spent 2 days at my parents house helping my mom heal her leg and then i went back home to the city to pack, clean, organize, etc. and i found myself lost for what to do first. crazy shit. scattered. i also found myself realizing that i wasnt willing to spend the money i had saved through working at the house of blues for three and a half years on living, but only on traveling which became the source of my commitment to make money while im in chicago. but how? so this is august 1. so, i was taking a load to my parents house a few days later and i found so much artwork at their house in their basement that i freaked. i took it all home and photographed it. i want to tell you that since ive been in chicago, i have made (and not spent, i think i spent about $100 of the cash ive made, but i cant say with confidence the exact number) $1035 without having what we call a job! how cool is that?! by selling art on the street, selling art out of my backpack in buildings, getting bad debts paid back, selling furniture, collecting a paycheck from the house of blues, etc. and i feel awesome! also, i made a huge difference today in someones life. a deaf man came to me and asked me for $8.75 to get on the metra. i know this man from my old waitressing job at the house of blues cuz he used to come in and eat and sometimes one of us would get him free food and sometimes hed pay and sometimes id just talk to him, and so, i thought about giving him money. and then i doubted his truths and instead i pulled out $5 and asked him to get the rest from someone else. and he (he says that he talks to me cuz i understand him and no one else seems to. i kind of get sign language, but more importantly i get humans when they speak, no matter the language, right?!) so, he then told me he didnt want trouble with the law or trouble with people or to look like he was asking someone for money, cuz hes not that guy. so i got enrolled with him and went to a someone i know who works at the house of blues and she said no. then we went to the security guard and asked her if she had $3.75, she said no. so i asked if shed mind if we asked other people in the hob area, she said no. so we went to the first next person who introduced us to his friend whos name is Chris, who then said, $375???? and we laughed, and said, no, $3.75 and he said, "hell, ill do that for god" and pulled out a $20 and said "now you have extra money, use it to help someone else and know that i didnt do this, she didnt do this, jesus or god or whatever god you believe in did this!!!" and hell, that was an act of something powerful, whatever we call it....it was awesome! im left moved, touched, and inspired.

this is just what happened today! tomorrow is gonna be even bigger! i love big! shit! i love abundance! i love love! how did this day occur and the ones before it you ask. well, im inviting everyone to take a course at landmark education because it is what this day was given by. and furthermore, those of you who live in chicago, im inviting you to an introduction to landmark education. im taking the advanced course right now and it is changing my life. i wanna introduce you to the curriculum because i love you all and i know you will LOVE it and it will make a difference in your life! so. in introducing you to the stuff that is making a huge difference in my life, there are two intro sessions this week. one on tuesday, august 12, and one on wednesday, august 13. both are 7pm-10pm and tuesday is at their building and wednesday is at my house. ill be at both. so, im gonna give you the address for landmark and my address and all that, googlemaps does the most accurate directions out of all the mappers, or at least from the last time i checked. so, yeah...the food that will be at my place will prolly be pizza, unless anyone objects (do you object?). is there anything you dont eat on pizza or in general? since there will be food at my house and a specific number of chairs at landmark, it is imperative that i get confirmations by monday late night for tuesday and by tuesday late night for wednesday so that everything can be set up accordingly.

Unprecedented Tibetan Protests Worldwide

Pro-Tibetan protests have occurred in record numbers across the world showing the Chinese Authority that they may be able to kill and suppress inside Tibet, but the people of the world are speaking ... Protesters in Boston, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Germany, Italy, Mysore, New Delhi, Chennai, Buffalo, Chile, Vienna, Israel, Denmark, Lithuania, Norway, Chicago, Bangkok, Seoul, New York, Sydney, London, San Francisco, Minnesota, Barcelona, Munich, Belgium, Taiwan, Paris, and even a vigil was held in Beijing. Unprecedented numbers of peace marchers, hunger strikes, vigils and protests in front of Chinese Embassies worldwide is surely not what the Communist Chinese Government had intended when they made the decision to 'crackdown' on Tibetans. One report even states that Tibetan protesters were gunned down in broad daylight in the streets of Lhasa. The Israeli parliament held a discussion about "the Genocide in Tibet".

Maybe the world is asking China to have compassion if they want to have their 'precious' Olympic Games if you read in between the lines. Several top athletes have already threatened to boycott the games and Beijing can't even promise clean air for them! I hope for a quick end to the utter stupidity and arrogance of the Chinese Authority in regards to the complete brutalization of any sense of the term 'human rights' amidst this 'crackdown' on autonomy ...

Closing Reception: This will be the last chance to see Aaron Hughes's
show titled SHIFTING MEMORIES: Reconstructing an identity amidst the
dust of false understandings, deceiving narratives, and "Iraq"
Aaron Hughes shares a series of projects that bring to the forefront
the over-complex personal realities of the war in Iraq. The projects
convey a series of metaphors, critiques, and ambiguous narratives in
order to deconstruct the nostalgic war epic that informs much of how
mass media interprets war.

Warrior Writers Book Release: This will be the first chance to pick up
the new Warrior Writers book.
The Warrior Writers Project is a dynamic, organic journey that
provides tools and space for community building, healing and
redefinition for Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW). Through writing/
artistic workshops that are based on experiences in the military and
Iraq, IVAW members unbury experiences and connect with each other on a
personal and artistic level. The writing from the workshops is
compiled into books, performances and exhibits that provide a lens
into the hearts of people who have a deep and intimate relationship
with the Iraq war.

Poetry and Music: Veterans will be reading their work from the new
Warrior Writers book, sharing new poems, and music by Jason Moon.
It is a rupture in our everyday when a veteran finds a creative way to
abstractly share of there experiences in war.

IVAW Fundraiser: Art works will be auctioned off, and donations will
be accepted for drinks.
So come out and support the Iraq veterans who are breaking through the
disconnect and silence by speaking out and sharing their experiences.

For many a month Audiognomes has been silently mourning the loss of
their beloved Leader Gnome, who is lost somewhere in a funny shaped
state called Texas, they wandered Earth aimlessly in search of something
new, they stomped, danced and created music with a new fangled
technology called.... laptop.... but it did not fill the void, or the
laziness...

The box wine grew low, the future looked bleak. PsiloPsyBens cat
tried to kill Microcosm, Toki went without decent beer at many a gathering,
Robyo was forced to move to the "Ghetto". Scatter was almost always
scared and naked, and Geal was placed in a ward after he lost it and
thought he was Flava Flav... Times were rough.

Then one day a lovely Fairy Psy Mistress came to them with good
tidings. A new baby brother named Saeros,
and a place for them to dance with all their dear friends, a place for
music and artistic endeavors, so with a wave of her
hand, a PSY PARTY WAS BORN!!!

And it was about damn time.

LED lights (throwies) on the Cortland Street bridge

Walking home from the Clybourn Metra stop around midnight last night I found that the ironwork of the bridge was covered with red, green, and blue LEDs, transforming it from classic ironwork to a bit of a faerie bridge. Elision on livejournal identified them as throwies:

Greg Farley has been involved in the psychedelic trance scene in
Northern California for over 5 years. After several years of being a
dj and event coordinator, he began to produce his own music in the

as Quasar, Ocelot, the Nommos, Chromatone, and Penta. Mubali's music
began appearing on various labels like Mistress of Evil Records,
Geomagnetic TV, Trishula Records, Insomnia Recs, and Manic Dragon
Recs. In March of 2006, Trishula Records released Mubali's debut full
length titled "Cats at Play." His music style can be called nighttime,

"The fact of the matter is that this very deeply felt moment of discovery, bathed in a sense of clarity and harmony, had been prefaced by dancing barefoot in the dirt at a corn-circuit outdoor rave, to sets of godly Detroit and Chicago house music. This connection between a richly cognitive quantum leap and a night of freeform neo-pagan mayhem was neither incidental nor isolated. It's a very concise embodiment of what I cheekily call "disco magic" - a Gnostic leap into the connectedness of things through dance culture, the art and science of a mindbodyspirit hoofing its ass off with the very fabric of our cosmos. It's also an apt capitulation of the most exuberantly turned-on chapter of my life, my passage from being a neurotically cynical student of human sexuality and pop culture to a psychotically positive bodhisattva of the beat, a self-appointed High Priestess of the Church of Disco Discordia."

"I would surrender to the beat, become the beat at times. In the Gordian knot of gyrating bodies, broken up into frozen tableaux by strobe light, my normative calibration of space and direction might also turn to vapor. I'd sweat until I thought I'd collapse, but I had no choice but to go on. That was the point that something clicked on, something that I had never even come close to experiencing - it was as if a powerful force were running through me that had nothing to do wtih ego, yet was still intrinsic to my being. No guru, no master! It had been revealed: Every man and woman is a Superstar. The first commandment of Disco Discordia, to be sure."

"Snaking from the anointing vibrations of bass emanating from the speaker stacks, through a crowd of kids with as many dancing styles as is imaginable, past the beautiful high-concept scenesters in stately glam repose by the toilets, I would begin to interact with my environment through a new set of rules that unfolded with each step. Under the influence of psychedelics or not, I sensed a rich vocabulary of nonverbal communication with people I'd never met, developing very profound relationships with people I barely spoke to. Beyond this, a coherence of actions and perceptions would emerge, wherein scraps of overheard conversations would knit together into grand thematics, drunken dancers would spontaneously synchronize against all odds and things I thought about would suddenly appear. To be more prosaic, I was having a conversation with the chaos of the universe through a holistic and intimate relatinoship with my local surroundings. Not through willed dominance or dutiful submission, but through play."

"The magic soon contaminated the rest of my life, and as a talking, walking, dancing being in tiny Iowa City I sensed rhythms, musical coincidences and harmonies everywhere - as well as a sense of my influence upon them. My interface with the world wasn't one of aggressively willing other forces to yield, nor was it a case of passive acquiescence, it's more like having a kind of rule book in whcih the rules change with each turn of the page; and the way things change depends on your actions. In turn, however, the knowledge of the way you should act to follow your True Will reverberates from channels beyond yourself. This putative paradox may just be a function of using language to describe such a state of consciousness, whose "meaning" cannot be housed within words alone. It's hardly surprising that a ritual of music, bodily movement and a constant collision of elements in real time can facilitate access to this state of magical consciousness."

But whatever I gtave to the world, it would give back to me, through objects, bathroom graffiti, random bear hugs, glances and the beautiful wash of filtered French disco-house, wafting around me upon warm brick summer streets."

"We are the center. In each of our minds--some may call it arrogance, or selfishness--we are the center, and all the world moves about us, and for us, and because of us. This is the paradox of community, the one and the whole, the desires of one often in conflict with the needs of the whole. Who among us has not wondered if all the world is no more than a personal dream?
I do not believe that such thoughts are arrogant or selfish. It is simply a matter of perception; we can empathize with someone else, but we cannot truly see the world as another person sees it, or judge events as they affect the mind and the heart of another, even a friend.
But we must try. For the sake of all the world, we must try. This is the test of altruism, the most basic and undeniable ingredient for society. Therein lies the paradox, for ultimately, logically, we each must care more about ourselves that about others, and yet, if, as rational beings we follow that logical course, we place our needs and desires above the needs of our society, and then there is no community.
I have seen that way of selfishness. I have seen it fail miserably. When self-indulgence rules, then all the community loses, and in the end, those striving for personal gains are left with nothing of any real value.
Because everything of value that we will know in this life comes from our relationships with those around us. Because there is nothing material that measures against the intangibles of love and friendship.
Thus, we must overcome that selfishness and we must try; we must care. I have seen the failure of self-indulgence; I have run from such a world. I would rather suffer the physical pains, even the end of my life. Better that than watch one I love suffer and die because of me. I would rather have my physical heart torn from my chest, than to have my heart of hearts, the essence of love, the empathy and the need to belong to something bigger than my corporeal form, destroyed.
They are a curious thing, these emotions. How they fly in the face of logic, how they overrule the most basic of instincts. Because, in the measure of time, in the measure of humanity, we sense those self-indulgent instincts to be a weakness, we sense that the needs of the community must outweigh the desires of the one. Only when we admit to our failures and recognize our weaknesses can we rise above them.

Practice 4.2 Connected Shaking

Stage 1: shaking

Sit with your back straight, preferably on a mat on the floor, possibly in a chair.
If on a chair, avoid leaning back against it.
Keep your eyes closed throughout the exercise.
Shake your hands quickly and vigorously for 10 to 20 seconds.

Then remain motionless with your palms upwards. To achieve maximum effect, avoid resting your hands on your knees or the arms of a chair.
Become aware of the vibration in the hands.

Stage 2: vibration in the eye, vibration in the hands

Repeat stage 1: shake your hands, then become motionless with the palms upwards.
Become aware of the vibration in the hands.
Become aware of the vibration in the eye (between the eyebrows.)

Focus for a few seconds on the vibration in the eye. Then become aware again of the vibration in the hands for a few seconds. Then, vibration in the eye again... Go from one to the other several times.

Then become aware of the vibration between the eyebrows and in the hands at the same time.

Stage 3: friction

Repeat stage 1: shake your hands for 10 to 20 seconds. Then remain motionless with your eyes closed, palms upwards. Become aware of the vibration in the eye and in the hands at the same time. Remain in this perception for 1 minute.

Then start breathing with the throat friction, as described in Chapter 2.* Connect the friction with the vibration in both the eye and the hands. Continue the practice for 1 or 2 minutes. Watch the quality of the vibration change

*Throat friction: This practice consists of breathing with a friction at the lower part of the back of the throat, while keeping the mouth slightly open. The friction is generated during both inhalation and exhalation. It creates a 'wind' type of sound. There is neither humming nor buzzing, nor any form of chanted sound. The sound is roughly the same while inhaling and exhaling. If you can, try to make it a low-pitched sound; it will be easier to sustain over long periods of time. But don't worry about making it perfect. Just breathe with some vague friction in the throat.
The throat friction is a sound of energy. It quietens the mind and when mastered, instantaneously induces a 'tuned-in' state of consciousness.

Tips

A whole range of experiences can result from this practice. An essential point is to realise that a modification, in both the hands and the eye, occurs as soon as you start the friction. The vibration becomes more intense, more tangible, and at the same time its quality becomes more subtle.
The throat friction not only intensifies the vibration, it also helps connect the eye with the centers of energy in the palms of the hands. A triangle of energy can often be felt, linking the eye and the palms.

Stage 4: connecting

Shake the hands for a few seconds. Then remain motionless with your palms upwards.
Feel the vibration in the eye and the vibration in the hands.
Start breathing with the throat friction. Connect the friction with the vibration in the eye and the hands. Watch the changes in the vibration that automatically take place due to the friction.
Then try to feel the connection between the hands and the eye.
Use the throat friction to amplify this connection.
What exactly can you feel between your hands and your eye?
Apart from feeling, can you 'see' anything (with your eyes closed)?
How does the energy in your hands change as you intensify the connection with your eye?

Tips and Traps

The perception of energy linkage between eye and hands is often accompanied by the perception of a triangle of light. At a more advanced stage of the training, this triangle of light will play an important role in certain key practices of inner alchemy.

Please remember our basic rule: no imagination, no visualisation. Flow with what comes. develop what you have, don't make anything up. If you can only feel a slight tingling in your hands, work at developing it with the friction and by regularly implementing the other techniques of the book.

As you go on practising this exercise and the following ones, it will appear that they create a gradual refinement of what flows into your hands. The more the vibration in the hands is connected with the awareness in the eye, the more it will become subtle and endowed with healing qualities. This is a first step in the development of the hands of a healer.
