The Present:
Sanathana (Swaroop Guhathakurta) is a Psychedelic Trance DJ and Producer specializing in the sub-genre of Full-On psychedelic trance. He was born in India (1978) and grew up in Muscat, Oman. He began recording music under the name of Sanathana in 2009. (The name is a Sanskrit term which means ‘Eternal’ and the name of one of the sons of Brahma) “I picked this name because I believe in the eternal truth about life. What is it? You will have to find out for yourself. I am also very spiritual, one of the main reasons behind this name”

Early career:
He started music production in Yr. 2002 as Psy Dimension in the United Kingdom. His first project was named Psy Dimension. Some of his early production (From Yr. 2002 –Yr. 2004) as Psy Dimension, can still be found on soundclick.com. He also has a side project as Dj Swaroop G specializing as a DJ.
In 2002 Sanathana formally known as Psy Dimension reached #47 with his single ‘Alien Invasion’ on Soundclick.com in the Electronic Music charts. Many other tunes reached the top 100 in the electronic charts on soundclick.com.
Swaroop however continued to pursue his other passion i.e. Digital Graphics design as SGDesigns which is now one of the biggest names in the digital art community. (Search Google for Swaroop Guhathakurta to find out more about SGDesigns)
Swaroop G started as a DJ in 2003 playing psychedelic trance in the students union of Glasgow Caledonian University (known as ‘Asylum’). He organized small psy-gatherings at the union and had a fan following that shared the same taste in music.
When he moved to the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) in 2005, he continued as a Dj and has organized some of the biggest Psytrance gatherings in UAE (Psynthesis: Indoors & Outdoors) at Chi, voted as the No.1 club in Dubai, on Islands, in the desert and many private gatherings.

Musical style:
Sanathana’s music is solid, twisted, melodic and full-on. On one hand his music is for dance-floors and on the other, easily listenable even when you are in no mood to dance.
It is very uplifting and, as far as Psychedelic Trance goes, fairly "hard" and usually played during sunrise and the morning for outdoor trance parties. Many would consider his style to be a crossover between "melodic full-on" and the "deep-twisted" end of Trance.

Influences:
Sanathana is musically influenced by Hallucinogen, Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection and Talpa. "You will never find my tunes to be monotonous. There will always be twists and turns throwing your mind from one level of consciousness to the other…A story that is not always a happy story, a rollercoaster of a journey and resembles life." Other influences include Deep Purple, Jim Morrison, Scorpions and Dire Straits.

Ephemeral mists

Ephemeral Mists is the newest side project by composer Brett Branning (The synthetic dream foundation & Abandoned Toys). The debut album, "Moon Ritual" is out now on Mythical records.

The sound of the project is best described as downtempo ambient electronics mixed with ethnic world musics in the vein of "Karma" era Delerium, Amethystium, and Dead Can Dance. Its really a very intoxicatingly beautiful creation and I highly recommend it to anyone into ambient music styles.

Let's see what we can do to get this tribe all together and see if we can get everyone working together in this. We all know just how hard it can be to get your music out there to the right people for bookings. Some DJ's I've found have a great sound but just don't know how to get their demos to the right people. If they could get their music to the right people, everyone else might get the pleasure of hearing and experiencing it as well. there is only one way to accomplish this, and that is for all of us to work together in helping anyone else.

"The only way to advance to the next step is to help someone to get to where you are are right now!"

The gig exchange for new artist as well as better known artist is a huge resource and opportunity for all of us.

Let's get this tribe working together like a well oiled machine that can produce great new and old sounds for the unknowing public's ears to enjoy. One person cannot do this alone. It will take all of us to make it work. I will do what I can to help out in any situation that's going on within the tribe. Any suggestions that you guys might have about things you would like to see within this tribe will be appreciated. Ideas on how to make this happen etc...
The truth, Although painful sometimes, will be respected to the fullest degree.

I assembled this with the thought of taking over from a full-on/full power or harder DJ, and working down to Prog Psy. A morning, or just after morning set, though not really "daybreak" methinks.

Currently based in NYC, is the Zenon Records representation in Israel. He specializes in the Zenon style of dark mystical minimal to grinding, experimental progressive. Some of his favorite acts include Krumleur, Sensient, Cujorius One, Mantik, Opsis and Igneous Sauria to name a few. He has performed in the UK, Australia, India and of course Israel, supporting many fine acts including Sun Control Species, Perfect Stranger, Ticon, Pena, Koxbox, Hujaboy and many more. Lately Nomolos has been exploring Dubstep, and the more abstract sides of the Minimal Techno world and is incorporating these fresh sounds in to his DJ sets enhancing these deep musical journeys.

Brand spankin new dj mix by me that includes some of my favorite tracks at the moment. The style ranges from totally nuts to groovy-drippy-trippy dancefloor smashers. It was recorded on Aug 02, 08 at PsyCircle Studios in San Diego, CA.

Equipment used:
M-Audio Torq DJ Software, 2 x Pioneer CDJ-800's for the track controls, Ecler Hak-320 DJ Mixer. Recorded on a PC using SoundForge 7.0 through M-Audio Project Mix I/O Preamps.

East Coast mini-tour

So I ran into an old friend of mine who I hadn't seen in over 3 years. He just happened to be visiting a friend of his about 30 minutes south of where I live at. We went and hung out and he mentioned that he was going down to house-sit for his parents in Florida in October and wanted to make it to Key West for Fantasy Festival on Halloween. (apparently the Florida equivalent of Mardis Gras) I've never been to Florida, and it's not like I have that much shit to do around Milwaukee during that time except for temp, so I decided to come with him. So that being said, I'd like to maybe do up a little tour for a few weeks leading up to Halloween. The idea is to maybe swing through Ohio to visit another old friend or maybe even two, shoot through Philadelphia because I've never been there, hit up Virginia Beach, most likely Asheville or Atlanta, (or both) ending up in Florida where I'll hang out for a couple of weeks and fly back home. I'm in the process of working on my album and at the rate things have been going should be at least more than halfway finished with it by the time I'm ready to take this road trip. I'm planning on going to Florida anyway, so if anyone wants to book me for a show along the way I can arrange it to where I can come play depending on when and where it is. To be on the safe side, because taking a road trip to Florida shouldn't take 3 weeks driving, I'll only probably play 2 weekends, but it's possible to do a Friday night party somewhere and then a Saturday night party somewhere else, or I could do the Gaian Mind monthly if that's still happening. Also if there's any weeklies happening along the way, I'd be interested in that.

This trip is more of a leisure trip than anything so if we can't work out me coming to play on my way down, I would be open to maybe working it out to come by on my way back. I haven't determined whether or not I'm going to be flying back or taking a train,

I'm looking for a psy-dub/psy chill artist/DJ to book for a full moon event on north shore of Hawaii on July 28th. The event is to have about 150+ people on a large space of land, maybe even near a beach house. The perks for the booked dj will include free drinks, a free stay at the beach house, and the satisfaction that you're in Hawaii and helping our psy trance scene grow. It's an art event, but nowhere near a "festival", but we are fundraising for bigger and better outdoor events for the future. What would work: An artist, international or local who is touring around the late July time-frame and is able to "stop by" for a great experience.

New Arahat Live/DJ set - Soul of the Peacefull Warrior - Discs 1 & 2 - Plus my archive

Hello everybody, I recorded a new mix at home in my studio not too long ago. Its titled "Soul of the Peacefull Warrior", Disc 1 and 2. I mixed straight through for 2 1/2 hours, then split it into 2 CD's.

It was mixed using M-Audio's Torq dj software and recorded 24 bit to Soundforge, then mastered in Cubase SX. I used two Pioneer CDJ-800's going into an Ecler mixer to control the tunes in the software using the Timecode discs, with the tables set to Vinyl Mode.

I just uploaded it to my friends server along with a bunch of my older mix sets from the last few years. Included is a mastered version of my New Years Eve set from this last year split it into Three, 1-hour files. There's a breaks mix, a Radio station appearance, as well as my fav's from 05.

Thanks for reading and listening, I hope you enjoy at least one of the mixes. Please post any comments whether positive or negative, constructive criticism never hurt anybody.

AS A NOTE FOR THIS FORUM, IN RELEATION TO THE Mp3 vs CD debate going on-
Both of these sets were mixed from CDs, actually real pressed vinyl, and a collection of WAV format virtual files. I was trying out my new WAV purchases from some of the new sites set up for the digital DJ.

YES! this is yet another sound test and trial of mixing formats.

I mixed in the live Terence samples from a rare 10" hard vinyl record of Dreamtime that I found during my last visit to Palenque. I was covering the latest violence in Chiapas for my news coalition, and found a really sweet junk shop with boxes of old vinyl. What a sweet score, and it is the first time in years that I sample scratched from real vinyl. I found four Terence records, and three records with Tim Leary, McKenna, Jones, and some other psy illuminaries.

I will be sample scratching the new stuff tonight so stay tuned.

was wondering if anyone has interest in booking either Eraser and Yajalka (EvsY) and/or DJ Anar in North America this summer?
The dates would roughly be late July to late August.

Eraser and Yojalka have been making music together for years now, and their last album "Lords of the Liverdance" (Faerie Dragon Rec) has been stuck in my cd player since last summer. Its a highly creative, trippy, twisted album - i can't say enough about it.
Dj Anar runs Cosmic Theater records and is a dj for Vertigo Records. He compiled Cosmic Theater V/A and has a new comp on the way Dream Theatre. He Compiled the Sacred Tree fro Vertigo. He was one of the BEST dj sets at Boom Festival last summer!!!!

One set was mixed on with two Pioneer CDJ 100s, a Technics 1200 PRO Limited (only had two vinyl records, soooo hard to find), and a Roland DJ2000 mixer with all recording done on a Roland VS2480CD 24-Track directly from the main output.

One set was mixed using a custom built virtual Mp3 system using Traktor3 and PCDJ REDD based programming, and a customized Roland based virtual MIDI/Digilog interface sound mixer similar to Audio8 that comes with Traktor Scratch.

I also have MIXX PADD Pro added as a time coded outboard deck so I can do the same thing as I could with any other scratching capable hands on CD player. I can get the virtually the same effects as if I were actually using vinyl and scratching.

My virtual mixing program includes many of the same features as Traktor, like the 4 CD decks and the same type of built in mixer. The program that plays the Mp3s is almost identical to Traktor except for the features I have added in like MIDI and VST loop and sample programs.

I also have the Roland 24 track/64 channel mixer built into my main hard drive, so as to get the identical mixing sound without the hassle and risk of taking my studio to the illegals and Places of high risk.

Both mixes were recorded directly from the Roland VS2480 program so that a comparison could be made between the standard setup and the virtual based system. The CDJ set was recorded on the hardware Roland and the other mix was recorded with the Roland virtual software suite on the hard drive.

I will let everyone know which mix is which after people have had plenty of time to listen to them. I don’t want to bias anyone’s opinion ahead of time, so we will have a blind test to see if people can really tell the difference in the quality of CDs compared to Mp3s.

Somewhere between the dials aliens and angles are speaking to us. In coded messages and secret sounds they beckon to us. Bending our perceptions with music and myth. Over time people with a certain set of eyes or ears have been able to hear or see these messages and trace them to paper or set them to sound. These messages are always there, always being broadcast. Waiting for the right person and the right time to simply tune in. In this spirit I have sought after some of the very best of progressive psychedelic and assembled it in a way that spoke to me as a dj and dancer. Each person is inspired to a higher state of conciseness by different art forms and ideas and this is an opportunity for me to share some of the new music that has inspired me. Its a 3 hour set, first hour is all original tunes written by me including the handfull that I've written with Mubali as our side project, Arabali. These sets are from the early morning of 2/1/07. We were in the midst of the Full On Full Moon record release underground party trying to broadcast live on low power community radio and over the internet. This was a promo event to announce the formation of Mind Bomb Records-Thought Bomb Productions as a new DJ/producers collective in the psy scene.

The gig was at a venue outside of Orlando, Florida in the one of the university areas, right near where the tornado cut a huge path of devastation. (Due to liability and legal concerns I am not able to mention the venue or the other record label by name, but it was a major underground gathering in full on mode. By 2am there were almost 1000 people gathered for the music, vibes and spiritual experience. Of course we were totally unaware of the deadly weather front building up.)

In the beginning of the second set all hell broke loose as we got hit with about 20 lightning strikes in a row. Until then we were not even aware of how bad the storm was getting. It had been raining steadily for about an hour, but no signs of the disaster about to strike.

The power went out for a minute, and then we heard the tornado warning coming over the NWS feed of our studio truck. The leading edge of the storm came through and then our studio truck got hit by a huge barrage of lightning. We had the antenna fully extended so it really fried our remote setup.

I ran out to see how bad the damage was, and then I realized I had just run out into 50mph+ winds. I heard the roaring of a huge jet taking off, and then it just kept getting louder. It sounded like someone was tearing apart the sky.

I looked up and a small tornado was right out there on the horizon about five miles off. We could see things flying around and a big ball of lighting coming from the storm cell. Right after that we saw this huge funnel cloud come down about 10 miles away, and then we had to run for cover.

After the front edge moved through it got extremely dark and eerily quiet, then it started to rain so hard it flooded our generator in about 2 minutes. We had all sorts of people stuck in the venue and more coming from the surrounding neighborhood looking for a place with power.

After we heard the initial reports of all the casualties we decided to try to lighten up what had become a somber and grim gathering. I was not sure if it would be disrespectful to those lost in the storm, but we wanted to try to lay down some sets for all the victims and the survivors.

I still had my records and CD set list on the boards so we switched over to my virtual DJ set up and proceeded to give thanks for our survival and to properly honor those who were not so lucky.

We were only running on half generator power and a semi-truck power converter, so it might sound a little rough in spots where the lightning was still hitting the metal framed building. We just dug in and tried to ride out the next few hours as the rain continued to come down in literal sideways torrents.

We were stuck in the venue till around 7;30am and then the storm broke like a miracle happened. I have never been so happy to see the sun break through the clouds, even if it was for only about 10 minutes.

In thanks to God, Goddess, JAH, Buddah, Shiva, Krishna, RAH, and all the other higher beings that kept us safe, we give blessings and gratitude for sparing our lives. We were not able to broadcast this at the time, but I wanted to put out something as a memorial.

As a note on the production… There was none! During the set up for the gig we blew all the master boards and most of the amps. It’s impossible to get fuses at 4am, not going to happen.

SOOO…..with a whole hell of a lot of splicing cables and trying to rig something, we had a two channel cross patch for a 24 channel system…..AHHHH!!!!

I ran all the CD and Samplers into the mic plug on my computer. No timers, no beat counters, no mixers, no sound board support, nada. I was literally mixing blind on the CD drives of two computers and one piggybacked outboard Pioneer. Literally two channel mixing on the fly.

Any little glitches that came through are because I was cross fading through only one channel. Hope you all like it.

This is a really old school electro sounding remix I just finished
mastering. I did this live and on the fly, and was lucky enough to
record it for possible release.

I guess you could call it Happy Electro-Psycore, which is what it
is too me. This song is f*cking addictive, and hopefully it gets some
play.

I didn't know if it would be any good, but it is one of the sickest
sounding tracks I ever freemixed. I found the track in one of my
buddies Happy Hardcore set lists. I tweaked the speed down a little and
then spun a second cut over it and behind it.

The samples are a little off in some parts because my stereo output on
the sample board was not set right (damn mono samples!!!!), but I
hope this is a good track to release as my first single remix.

Let me know what you think. Please use it in sets if you like it. I plan on using it for my Solstace mix tonight. IBOGAFIED!!!!

Here is a new mix which is pretty much eclectic psytrance at 145 bpm, but the mix flows in and out of psybreaks. The stucture is very experimental and creative. It is high energy, full-power, and deeply twisted and psychedelic.
It is a recording from a private event I organized called the Galactic Activation Gathering last November.

Hello to all,
I've recently put a mix online for friends and demos, as well as sharing on various forums.

For anyone who is interested in the psybient/psytrance spectrum of sound, this mix brings a blend of unique and well known sound.

This is a Live on the fly set that I started on Diwali 2006. Due to recording problems I was unable to get the whole thing on disc that night. I redid this on Halloween as a Dark to Lightness (sorta) hard edged trippin’ mix.

This mix is a slammin,’ floor bashin’, system blastin’ set that will take you from your darkest nightmares to your happiest twisted dreams, and then back to the worst nightmares you’ll ever imagine.

The last track is a special G. W. BUllSH*t remix about our Free Speech and Freedoms being threatened.

This is my Halloween 2006 Mix. Done on the fly with one old T1500 and T12000 and Virtual DJ 4 programs. All sound samples produced with MixPad and Audio Morpher Gold.

There were no mixing boards used during this mix. All mixing was done live with only a two channel fader/mixer on a P3 computer.

(I was bonging Salvia Divinorum 20x the whole time I was spinning this. There was a $300 bet I couldn’t finish the set. HAH!)

This mix was done with one very old T1500 and two virtual DJ programs. I had no mixer or board support except for the cross fader on my old P3 computer.

This mix was performed live on the fly and I think it sounds pretty good.
