School curriculums

Vasilii - what do you know about the curriculum in Findlay? Is it MPT or DPT? Do you know what classes PT's start out in? I have a friend doing PT school in Slippery Rock, and her curriculum is vastly different from mine. We both start out with hard sciences, but hers are different from mine - especially her two semester pathology compared to my one semester. (I never liked the one semester pathology - too much info for one semester.) She also has an entire embryology course, and mine is interspersed in other courses. I also felt screwed out of pharmacology class - a one credit hour course that ran half the semester. And that was the doctorate level course.

I was just wondering what the classes are like in your area. We all have to take the same board exam, so we all have to know the same stuff. How does Findlay structure it?

I have to go back and look at the curriculum again. I have been loosely keeping tabs on their program but I will not be eligible to apply for about 2.5 more years. For the bridge program you have to be a licensed PTA with 1 year of clinical experience and a BS. Once you are accepted you go every other weekend for 3 years and graduate with and MPT (currently) I haven't been able to find much out about their DPT plans, which is why I am tailoring my BS curriculum to meet the entrance requirements for other programs so that I am not locked into Findlay if they don't want to go DPT. Honestly right now I am so focused on my last 2 semesters (mostly clinicals) that I can't think of much else

Just got the "official" word today, U of Findlay is a DPT program. WOOOOHOOOOOOO! Now I am working with my adviser at KSU and a Lady in their admissions dept. who will review and approve/deny all of the rest of my coursework before I take to make sure everything transfers.
I did find one other University that offers a PTA-PT bridge it is in Loma Linda CA. I can't find the link now though.....

Get those prereq's done as quickly as possible. I don't know how lenient Findlay is on prereq's or how much they would be willing to screw someone over. I know a girl who has already gone through two anat/phys courses and two bio's, but because the curriculum was different for her school, YSU is making her take anat and phys again AND her second bio. And she's supposed to enroll in YSU for two semesters AFTER graduating with her bachelors in exercise science just to apply to the DPT program. Also, she can't enroll without having stuff set up with the dean of our college, who hasn't returned one phone call in three months of her trying to contact him.

I also know a foreign exchange student who got accepted without actually ever studying a muscle before. She took an anat/phys course at some community college, where they focused on phys and only went over most of the bones. She never learned about muscles. I don't know how they let her in - neither does she. And her first class was gross anatomy.

YSU is supposed to check prereq's to make sure other schools have the same content, but it looks like they didn't check hard enough. I talked to a teacher about it, and she insisted the student must be making a mistake and she actually studied anatomy before ( apparently she forgot about it or something), because YSU does not make mistakes like that. Neither the student in question nor I feel that her inclusion into the DPT program is actually fair to the other students under the circumstances, but she'll die before she gives up on the program. I hope she does well. She got a B in gross anatomy - with a little help from her tutor (which would be me)!

The U of Findlay has a liaison in their admissions dept who will review your coursework before you take it and guarantee transfer. I just had my "unofficial" evaluation for admission into the Bachelor of General Studies program. After this semester I have 48 more credit hours to get my BGS with a minor in philosophy, and I have 2 job offer waiting for me once I have my PTA license in hand. Can you say WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!?
