Alright everyone, this is one of those sort of secretive type events where you get to show up and find out the details but the basic premise
is that we will flash mob into a local store, they provide the jamming dance music and we provide the confusion for all the shoppers as suddenly all these people start raving around them, only to stop moments later and return shopping.

What you need to do:
Show up at 6pm, July 19th at Pioneer Square. Look for the guy with the box of glow sticks... Make sure to wear your best clubware! That could be fancy dress clothes, gothic, whatever, but Trendy Yuppie look would work best.

Afterwards:
We will all meet back up at a local bar and talk about the whole thing (and probably get drunk).

If you want to video this, or take pictures, please contact me so we can get you setup covertly.

Thanks
Vanbo
(aka National Geo Santa)

PS- It was pointed out that this is the same weekend as the brewers festival so many of us will be hitting that and then walking over to the square for the event. You are encouraged to do the same.

de-Packaging action!

we assemble at a chosen store that over indulges in packaging of produce, boxes of staples and other products...perhaps... Trader Joes?
(I like TJ's but man they go overboard on that produce wrap and stuff)

A time period is chosen, say 30 minutes, where we all file in casually in small groups, then proceed to pick and purchase three items that have excessive packaging. (total cost per-person >$5)
At the checkout line we take said items and remove all the packaging, placing items in re-usable containers(i.e. glass jars, cloth bags etc.)
after about 50 or so people perform this de-packaging action, the pile should really start to grow.

"What's the deal [with him]?" I asked "Oh, he flunked his photgraphy test", she said, as though I knew all about it and understood why he was so "challenged".

Then, without really discussing it, we started playing this game that apparently we'd played before. The point of the game was basically to get the other person to jump off the roof of the building we were on, using any means necessary, like logic, emotional ,manipulation, diversion, or plain just running and pushing. Mischief was a champ at it, maybe even better than me, because more than once I almost jumped (her skill was in making me think I wanted to jump). From the roof it appeared as though it was a very tall building, but it was really only 12 feet tall.

I woke up hanging from the fire escape and Mischief saying, "You KNOW you want to let go; why not just give it to yourself?"

Do not play this game with her in real life.

Tineke and Co. just missed it, but we discussed the idea of more bubbles afterward. A Bubble Max Jack from Holladay Park to Pioneer Place, then a redux in the mall? It really was cool enough to warrant a do over and bubbles on the max makes me giggle.

Sunday, June 1st, we are going to bring a lil beauty and wonder to one of the jankiest places ever created my a misled humanity, namely, that frightening behemoth known as the Lloyd Center. Yes.

At 4:30 pm we will meet in holladay park beween the mall and the Max tracks to synch our silent alarms.
Then, ever so casually we we all wander hither and thither into the mall, casually taking our places along the upper tiers overlooking the skating rink. At precisely 5 pm, we will whip out our handy bubbles and blow for all we are worth. Why? Because our inner child demands it. because for 1 minute those hordes of shoppers are going to to think about something else than how much they need that matching towel set. Because we can and because dammit, bubbles are COOL. Invite your friends. Bring the kids. The more bubbles, the bigger the impact.

I know that this time frame coincides with Klown Con and any number of other things. For this I apologize. My own schedule is such that I just don't have wiggle room.

Hey all you lovely Mayhemers!

my band Benjamin Franklin Freeman is playing this Saturday as part of the overwhelmingly cool and trendy "Alberta Art Walk".

We are playing at 9 PM at the Porch, which is literally the porch of a house on Alberta. It is right next to the Mexican restaurant La Bonita, around Alberta and NE 28th. i don't have the exact address, but once your there it is obvious.

Rockin' tunes, and melodic thrills, grunge-y boys, the fabulous FrankFreeman on vocals and of course, naughty nikki on guitar!

i would love for you all to make it! Seriously, i would be honored. And i would like to say that Mayhem is definitely an aspect of our musical and performance persona!

Warning: They have finally made the move to block off Alberta Street for the festivities, so be warned when parking your vehicle... leave time! In fact, get there earlier and enjoy the non Aural Art!

Thanks, and Hugs!

Well I promised the moderator here I would try and do a post a day because I have so many stories about what I did to various people who have fucked with me over the years and I guess this is a good forum for it. I'm actually a pretty nice guy but can be a horribly evil and creative bastard when someone screws with me. So let ...me...see.... Hmmmm.

Okay. This one is pretty good. I was living in this warehouse about ten years ago and every warhouse around had some absolutely awful industrial band banging on garbage cans and shopping carts trying to sound like the band "Crash Worship". But who gets complaints about their stereo? Me! This cocksucker next door could stand all this racket but I couldn't listen to my music. So this goes round and round until I finally get an eviction notice.

Well that was stupid on his part because since I was evicted now I could make all the noise in the world 24 / 7 and there was nothing he could do about it. So I'm getting drunk one night stroking my evil beard and had the most brilliant idea! His sleeping loft was on the otherside of the wall of my bathroom. So....I put a microphone up to one of my stereo speakers, attached that to a big public-address amp and ran a line to this gigantic horn (like the ones you see ontop of poles at the county fair) Then I took THAT....and put it in my bathtub facing his loft.

Dum de dum de dum....if I was going to annoy him it should be something good! Aaaah HAAA! An old MUTUAL OF OMAHA'S SOUNDS OF ANIMALS. So It's like three in the moring when all of a sudden.....SCREAMING TRAMPLING ELEPHANTS! That cut was only about three minutes long but me and my girlfriend was just rolling on the floor laughing our guts out. SCREEEEE!! TRAMPLETRAMPLETRAMPLE!! SCREEEEE!!......and the speaker is just clanking and buzzing around in the bathtub. We did this on and off until the sun came up. NO SLEEP FOR HIM!

OH there's more?...YES...So in the process of the whole eviction I had to show up in court. My lowlife landlord was this fat Jewish dude who had a reputation for burning down his buildings for insurance money. So I pulled all of my dreads back except two and then put on a yamika so I would look super kosher and when I got to court I sat behind both of them.

First the judge called the landlord who was all discombobulated from my recent conversion to Judaism. He spoke a bit and then it was the neighbor's turn....it went something like this...."Well your honor, he makes so much noise at night it sounds like screaming dying ELEPHANTS! (attempts to mimic the noises)....The Judge just looked at him and rolled his eyes like "Yah right!".....but the greatest part about it was HE WAS TELLING THE JUDGE THE TRUTH! I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing.

So in the several months it took to evict us, I suddenly get this notice that I owed some huge water bill. I called them and said to start an account with me, but they said pay the whole thing or we'll shut you off which they did. So one night I went out and for about an hour laid on the sidewalk with a hacksaw blade and got the lock off the main. We had water for a few days and dickhead neighbor calls the water people and then there's another lock on. So I went and put a lock on his. What's he going to do? put a lock on mine? There already was. So from my second story window I just drank my beer and laughed at him....

Which brings us to the closing act of the story. So...since I can't flush my toilet I go and get an institution sized five gallon bucket and piss in that out on our balcony. We had to bring-in other water from another neighbor to flush our crap. So this bucket is filling day by day and then I realized that the air-pipe for his toilet is right next to my balcony. I could totally flood his bathroom! So I get some eggs and put them in there to ferment, found some salmon in a local dumpster to add flavor and a few snake-turds from my Burmese Python.

Then I get myself a funnel, ad it's like a scorching hot summer day and this horrid mess has been baking for a week and I pour the whole thing into his vent pipe. I couldn't see it but what I knew would happen was that his toilet-bowl would overfill and everything, the piss, the salmon, the eggs and snake turds would go sklooshing all over his bathroom. I felt like an evil genius as I rubbed my hands together....then he comes home from work....

We could hear all of this angry yelling and screaming and I drowned it out with more elephant noise. Me and my girlfriend were having a fucking ball with this. No REALLY, if you get evicted you should have some fun with it. Well my neighbor snapped. We heard all of this thumping and pounded on the wall back until pieces of sheetrock started flying across the room and he was trying to bust a hole through the wall to strangle me I suppose. Later I heard from a maintenance guy who worked for Klein that because of the slope of his unit, all of this rotting pee had flowed from his bathroom all the way across his ground floor including his kitchen....(yaaay)....

Eventually the hole got big enough you could pass a basketball through it. So I went and got my little baretta .25 and fired two shots into my ceiling in front of him so he drops his hammer and calls both the slumlord and the cops. The cops see the hole in the wall, I was within my rights to fire warniing shots, the cops were in and out of his place as quick as possible, didn't want to write the stupid paperwork about pissfloods and deranged people with hammers and left it to Klein to do what he wanted. I didn't have anything to say other than to tell "hammerman" that if he came through the wall I would shoot him.

We continued the elephant routine for another couple of weeks and then we split. But I never had so much fun being evicted.

MOBILE ART PROJECT NEEDS ACTORS

With the exception of art cars, nearly all other art at Burning Man is statically located in one place. Hence, I am looking for actors to join in this great MOBILE ART PROJECT.

The DREAM VENDORS (working title) will be a guerrilla theater group with the mission of COMMITTING RANDOM ACTS OF THEATER AGAINST UNSUSPECTING DENIZENS OF BLACK ROCK CITY. There will be no stage, and there will be no mercy. We will have political, comical, whimsical, dramatical, sophical sketch comedy and/or improv that will occur whenever and wherever we damn feel like it.

This is, of course, a logistical nightmare of the first order. Therefore! Any actor committed to this project (or committed to another asylum) must also agree to camp together with the other Dream Vendors (camp location unknown at this time). The purpose for this is two-fold: First, cat-herding on playa time is a fucking come down and I am not willing to subject myself or any other sentient being to this task. (On the other hand, if you would like to do this and you are NOT a sentient being...) Second, it will give us an opportunity to rehearse, to improv, to break bread together, to drink and to generally stew into a cohesive troupe.

Who's in? What day do you plan to arrive on the Playa?

Please contact me ASAP. I will only do this if we reach critical mass, which I figure is about 2 dozen actors. Less than that and we're not likely to make this happen. If we don't reach critical mass, let's say 24 actors by May 24th, then I'll scratch the project.

So email me right now!! Really, right now!! Really, what are you waiting for?
DreamVendors @ noisesoff .com
Send my your name, playa name, alien name, email addy, underwear size, phone number, what day you plan to arrive and the registration number of your secret decoder ring.
2. We were ~supposed~ to work for an hour. 60 whole minutes. That's it. There was trash all over the place that was small, certainly but more than enough to keep our group busy for an hour.
3. Assign tasks. Kalliste and I brought extra things that we thought would be helpful. I'd only been asked to gloves and garbage bags. It seemed like many people didn't quite know what to do.
4. We ought to have come up with what to say to those who approached us asking what we were doing. That sort of unity of language really helps get the point across.

WHY
This is a flashmob style event geared towards creating a little dissonance around the notion of whose responsibility it is to take care of our planet. The answer is EVERYONE. Participants are encouraged to expand on this theme in any way they see fit (providing that its legal).

HOW
Please BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag). Paper shopping bags -Nordtroms, Macy's etc - make a statement. Large plastic bags will be provided. White gloves are a nice touch, though hypo-allergenic plastic gloves will be available. Stumped for an outfit? Simply wear black pants, a white shirt and black tie and join the ranks of "Butlers" who will be running your trash back to the central pick up location. If we clean the park before the hour is up...expand and wander! Though...careful around Lloyd Center. Security there is NOT renowned for its sense of humor.

We've got some momentum on a new project. Kevee initially proposed a pick-up-trash day. I motioned that we add impact by creating some dissonance. Why not pick a stretch to clean while wearing fancy-dress? I like the idea of stressing the subtext that caring for the planet is EVERYONES job, even the meanest and dirtiest of those jobs. A few folks added the notion of butlers delivering drinks, maids taking away trash. Wrench is coordinating with Burners without borders, and my gawd people, we could have a spectacle on our hands. Firedancers, stiltwalkers, party-in-a-box (whee), art car trash removal. We can check in and see if the Groove Bomb (a mobile party bus with a bitchen sound system and the location of millions of good times) wants to participate. I'd like to get an initial planning party together! New people we haven't met yet, come on down and have a beer with us!

Reposted from my personal blog:

Saturday dawned bright and clear, oh yay for big yellow orbs in the sky. I’d almost forgotten what direct sunlight felt like on a pale winter face. I did my happy dance, because today was the day of the freeze (video coming) and I was the kind of giddy that only gets better with some sun.

I left the house early, too antsy for my pants. I met Rua, Lena and JohnWhipple for a pre-funk in the form of a beer before heading down to the park to meet all the other assorted freeks and geeks. To my astonishment, there were already about 40 people when we arrived exactly on time. Some folks looked a bit bemused and uncertain, others smiled broadly, and the real joy of it was…I DIDN’T KNOW MOST OF THESE PEOPLE. Coool. There was press as well…a videographer from the Willy Week, a reporter from Oregon Live and enough cameras to film a Harry Potter length documentary. Our "Offical" cameraman Dale was there with his kids, who seemed to think the whole idea was pretty neato. I hopped and flitted from group to group, greeting old friends and making new ones. Tho, one of the new ones had promised to bring choco covered bacon but didn’t have time which could have been heartbreaking if it weren’t for all the excitement.

To my unfailing joy in the face of a bacon crisis, Jen Berry showed up with a mini-whiskey, which, given that I was gonna hafta TALK to all these people – who now numbered about 120 at best estimate, and wil swell to 200 by show time – won the stellar idea of the year award. Realizing that while my presence may sometimes be powerful, I am short. Very, very short. I fixed this by clambering upon a cement trash receptacle so that I could bellow welcomes, instructions, and then (dear god WHY) again perform my happy butt-wiggle dance. On videotape. With a new surprise ending, which looked a lot like Sexy Chad slapping my ass.

Just when I think my day is already fabulous, whose grinning and much missed mug should pop up but Mr. Nick. Miner, back from his trip to Java. Someone should have brought a leash, what with all the chasing my own tail, happy noises and generally behaving like a small dog cracked out on the bowser biscuits.

I am a paragon of decorum I am.

A swift march to ground zero where Rua, Lena and I fluttered. Should we stage a fight? What do we fight about? We had a party???????
“Oh, bitch, you DIDN’T sleep with him”?
“Ho, I was passed out, so that shit don’t count”.
“It does if you used my last condom”
“AND drank all my wine”
“You owed me that wine from the time you did all my drugs”.

Erm. We decided to dance for Piepo and his gitfiddle instead, and were joined by the fellow from willyweek for an impromptu sidewalk hoe-down.
3…2…1 FREEZE.

Suspended mid dance move, time goes all wonky and slows waaaaay down. People walking down burnside turn the corner and stop, totally perplexed. A mom tells her 2 year old, “Look honey, this is Art. This is important”. Another woman tries to get her husband to slow down for the art, but he bellows “Oh yeah? Well their art is all over MY sidewalk”. A group of teen girls drifts through trying desperately to place themselves in some kind of context, settling for a “this must be one of those things, y’know”? Her friend replies in tones of sophisticated awareness. “Oh yeah, that”. So far I’m maintaining fine. I could feel every muscle in my face twitch when Mr. Willy Week aimed his video camera about 2 inches from me, but I’m golden, no problem.

Until the Random Joebot Airstrike. Joebot meanders thru the tableau, peering at us as if we were sculpture, a serious look an his schnozz and a piece of pepperoni pizza in his hand. He plants himself right in front of me, takes a huge bite and starts chewing with his nose an inch or so from mine, still with his “Stanley” look on. I almost died and had to viscously bite the insides of my cheeks to keep from losing it. I can peripherally see cars slowing down, almost stopping, time stretches, stretches and then pops in a whoosh of indrawn air and motion as we all just fade away into the city…

Part of the magic was in what people chose to do, the reactions they saw, the commentary overheard…please share!

this is a gig i've wanted to pull off for a long time, and i've thought quite a bit about how it might work. there have been research and test runs with smaller groups and i think the idea to be promising. i guess now it is time to put it into the brain trust and see if y'all can improve/modify the action into a successful hack.

everyone's heard of the 'looking into the sky' prank, yes? this is a variant, and though the concept is simple enough, requires a bit of rigor in order to be successful.

the title of this hack is 'Staring Contest'.

premise:
those in-the-know (aka - 'actors') infiltrate a larger geographic location or room containing an appropriate number of non-hackers (aka - 'civilians') and instigate a staring contest between two groups of complete strangers. for the hack to be genuine, the actors will need to effect a manner and behavior of complete strangers to each other. that is, i don't know you. you don't know me.

okey? alright. here we go...

method:
a. the actors begin at pre-determined locations at the venue. one actor begins staring at another actor across the way. there ought to be enough civilians in the space that there may not be a clear path between the actors.

b. after a couple of minutes actor 1 is joined by another actor and both stare at actor 2.

c. a bit later, actor 2 is joined by another actor and they both stare at the other two.

d. each side adds more actors bit by bit. it won't take long to have a sizeable group on each side. form lines in opposition to each other. pick an individual and stare.

goal: add civilians to each side. people will want to know what's happening. "i don't know. they are staring at us" or variants should be used in response, emphasizing the 'us' part to get the civilians into your side. be accommodating and curious as they are. question each other as to what the hell is going on... but keep staring. whenever possible, engage (stare at) at a civilian on the other side to increase the us/them tension the person feels, keep it non-threatening so as their curiosity wins over fear.

success is when and if enough civilians can be engaged in the staring contest as to outnumber the actors by a significant ratio. i'm serious. 3 or more to 1 would be fantastic, because then we could move on to...

the coup de grâce: when civvies outnumber actors to the point where actors can start slipping off, little by little, leaving only civilians in the contest.

the penultimate: depending on the venue, what would really be great is if the civvies maintained a stasis (or even added to their own numbers!) long enough for the actors to regroup in another location within sight of the ongoing contest and begin staring back at it.

heh. that's what i got.

ready? go.

Portland Mayhem Presents!
As part of a nationwide effort…

The Portland Freeze flashmob style guerilla performance art.

The Skinny:

2:30 pm, Saturday, February 23rd, meet at the North Park Blocks, on Park Avenue between Burnside and Couch, by the DaTung elephant statue. We will leave in small groups at intervals headed for the intersection at 10th and Burnside. Take over all sidewalks at every corner. Spill over can go into businesses. DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTIONS AND BUSINESS DOORWAYS WHEN WE FREEZE.

3:15 FREEZE!
3:20 wander off casually as if nothing untoward had just happened. When our 5 minutes is over, please for the love of all that’s holy, DO NOT stop to group hug and congratulate ourselves. If ya wanna wander towards a beer and fine companionship, keep reading.

Timing:
Turn your cell phones to vibrate. The first alarm indicating freeze time is to be 3:15. The alarm indicating that it’s time to unfreeze goes off at 3:20. If you don’t have a time piece of any sort…DON’T WORRY. There are going to plenty of us to watch for visual cues.

To Consider:
Try holding a pose for 5 minutes. It’s not easy. Pick something you can manage.

The weather forecast is for partly cloudy skies with a high of 54 degrees. Dress accordingly.

Keep your valuables locked down. Yr gonna be a prime pick pocket target for 5 minutes.

This is going to be video taped. Other videographers should coordinate with me, as final footage for is being edited by my wonderful friend Daflew (Dale).

If there are so many of us that we’re the only visible thing happening on the street, consider being a “fluffer”, acting shocked and amazed at all this weirdness (also a good option for those who wanna see this but don’t wanna participate).

Invite friends, themore of us there are the better the visual impact.

The Willy Week and the Merc have been tipped off, this could make the papers.

Go Green! Walk or Public Transpo.

After the event:

Those so inclined can meet at Ringlers for a frosty one and food.
Those who think the fun should continue should go out to hear the cool sonic stylings of one of my favorite local bands, Hydrive @ the Hutch, 9pm. 4606 NE Glisan St Portland, OR 97213 (503) 235-4729. No Cover.
