Chandi Homa

Today, while at the Malibu Temple, I joined a Chandi Homa, which was being held by a couple who wanted to have a boy. Their little girl, five years old was present. She turned around and smiled at me when she heard me chanting the mantras with the priest.

It wasn't a true complete Chandi Homa. The Navarna Mantra:
OM EIM HRIM SHRIM KLIM CHAMUNDAYAI VICCHAY SWAHA was the mula mantra. The priest chanted a few stanzas of Ya Devi and had us repeat them.

Is it your experience that if you go to the pujas (yagyas, homas) and know the mantras you are well-treated?

It was, in fact, a magical day of prasaad, because when I first came to the upper level, a Venkateswara puja had ended, but when I came in, one of the priests who'd taken a break, went back to the shrine and motioned for myself and some others to come and receive some blessed water, and he put the "crown" on each of our heads, and then passed out fruit prasaad to us.

It was after that I found the Chandi Homa which had just started, because he was chanting to Ganesh..
Om Gananam twa ganpati gum havamahe Kavimkavina mupamashravastarm. Jyestharajam Brahmanam Brahmanaspata aanas-shrunvotibhi-seedhasadhanam (If you don't know this Vedic mantra, you can go to:
www.astrojyoti.com/vandanatrayee.htm and play the audio, and learn it.)
Then he chanted a very powerful Ganesh mantra: Om shrim hrim klim glaum gum ganapataye vara varada sarva janamae vasha manaya swaha, (which I have used as a 40 day japa practice with great results.)

After that homa, I went to the downstairs temple of Shiva, where a Kartikeya puja had just ended and was offered three different kinds of prasaad --- including cooked food, and when I visited Ganesha, more fruit prasaad!

A very blessed day. Then I went upstairs again, to wish the Chandi Homa family many blessings, and they told me that for five years the husband and wife had to live primarily separately --- he in a midwestern state, and she in california, because of a green card problem. Now that problem was solved and they are able to be together with their daughter here.

...Hanuman Jayanthi is coming up --- Hanuman chanted the Navarna mantra before he went off to Lanka.

Jai Maa!
