A vegan couple just got life in prison because their 6-week old child starved to death after they fed it only soy milk and apple juice following a strict vegan lifestyle. The couple apparently never brought their child to a doctor either, so it's not just the vegan issue. Though soy milk as a replacement for formula is dangerous for kids as the phytoestrogren effects are enormous.
It makes me wonder how fair it is to impose our beliefs on our kids like this. I know people in all religions do it, such as refusing blood transfusions for their kids, but is adherence to our beliefs worth it? At what age do kids get their say in this? Parents slam their religion down their kids throats without ever allowing the kids free will.

I know parents like to give the kids some kind of religious structure, but how fair is it, and at what cost? -

Re: Imposing your beliefs on your kids
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 8:59 PMIt's pretty sick. There has been a lot of child neglect and child abuse, reported happening in the households and compounds of fundamentalist religious fanatics. It's these fanatical parents that give organized religion a bad name. Child endangerment was not part of God's plan.

Wed, April 16, 2008 - 8:34 AMBreastfeeding is more challenging than you would think, but my god, it's a baby and has different needs than adults. Not to mention, if all you ate was soy milk, don't you think you'd be malnourished? -

Thu, May 29, 2008 - 3:46 AMI hate to play god's advocate but, if your think your kid goes to hell if you take him to the doctor then you might think that their beliefs are more important then the life of their baby.
Why didn't they breastfeed? -
