Hello all you beautiful dancers!
Just thought that I would post and let you know what I have been up to since we were all in Costa Rica together.
I have just finished a couple of performances this fall. The first was at the opening of my husband's Piscean Artworks art show 2006 at the White Raven in Felton, CA . We celebrated the opening with some tribal bellydance and a big party. I choreographed a solo and got an ATS trio together with two friends that happen to be incredible dancers, Julie and Chandrika from Heavy Hips Tribal Belly Dance. We packed the house to standing room only and danced under a gorgeous full moon with our hands decorated with henna. It was really cool that we were decorated by the artist himself. The energy was buzzing and we were flying and spinning! The art was well received and the dance was a great promotion.
Heavy Hips Tribal also got together for our friends blessing way in Santa Cruz at Masala Imports Dance Studio. There was a great lineup including the solo and trio I mentioned earlier, a solo by the Mama to be, Carrie, a beautiful blessing dance performed by my teacher Palika of Heavy Hips Tribal Belly Dance, and a big group ATS improv at the end. The performance had a Priestess theme and we all dressed in white with colorful tribal Saigosh belts. It was an amazing and very unifying experience for all of us.
After this ATS bellydance extravaganza it's going to be interesting to shift gears and get back to the Bollywood. The Isch Kamina Bollywood troup is getting back together to perform at the Masala Imports Winter Hafla in February. Rehearsals start in December.
Lots of pictures on my profile and more to come!
I would love to hear what you all are doing! Post your latest!
Love to you all,
Laura

For those of you who are near or will be traveling to the San Francisco Bay area 12-13 December, Rebecca, the energy healer from our Pura Vida retreat will be offering sessions as outlined below.

Also, for any of you who live in the SF Bay area, Rebecca is still looking for a place to hold the sessions and help organizing them. If you know of a suitable space and are interested in helping organize in trade for a session at no charge, please contact her directly at the email listed below.

Peace,
Melinda

ENERGY HEALER, REBECCA SINGER Rebecca singer is a healer who works in the Shamanic tradition. Her first teacher worked in the Lakota Indian traditions, and after learning from her during 12 years, Rebecca went on to develop her own form with the help of Shaman in Costa Rica, where she lives. She has worked with children and adults, focusing on physical, mental, spiritual well being. Issues that have come up in sessions include: relationships, illnesses, life purpose, ancestral lineage, karmic roots of problems, healing from abuse, finding one's voice, healing from anxiety, night terrors, cancer, the effects of chemo, fibromyalgia, and other chronic diseases.
DURING A SESSION, you are asked to lie on a massage table, fully clothed. Rebecca takes you through a relaxation exercise in order that you are present in the moment. She then says a prayer which is respectful of all religious/spiritual practices, and which acts as a portal for her. With little or no physical touch, she then "sees" how the energy flows in and around you, and receives information about your energetic being. This information can be in response to a particular area of your life that you would like her to concentrate on, or it can be general information. She will tell you what she understands, where and why your energy is blocked, where your points of strength are, and how to work towards a more balanced energetic state of being. She uses touch, singing, crystals, stones, light, and sometimes talking to heal. You are an active participant and your questions and feedback are welcome at any time in the process. Because Rebecca is likely working with you for one session, and sometimes sessions include a lot of information, she will leave you with a written explanation of a range of normal reactions to a session. Generally a session is about an hour and a half, cost is $150. Rebecca is careful to leave you grounded and with information that you can integrate.

To schedule a session, contact Rebecca via email at becca.sing@gmail.com Sessions must be canceled within 24 hours or full payment is due. Please make every effort to arrive a bit early.

This tribe needs some livening up. To that end, here are some developments for me since the retreat.

On August 26, I auditioned for a spot in the ancillary dance corps at the Lyric Opera Company of Chicago. They held an audition in July too, but I was to timid to try out. This time I said what have I got to lose? and wnet for it, fully expecting to be dismissed in the first round. Much to my surprise I made the first cut. I was culled in the seocnd round, but dammit, I'm good enough to make the first cut at the freaking Lyric Opera.

I wanted to take a hardcore bellydance drills class, but no one around here was offering one. I approached my troupe director about teaching a workshop in the hope that I could snag enough interest start a class. The director was so enthused at my suggestion that she put my class on the fall schedule without even a trial run. AND rather than work for her, I took a bigger risk and decided to be a contractor (I rent the space, do all my own advertising, etc.). I am thinking of approaching other local studios about offeirng the class too.

So yay me!
