Sock Dreams

Hey ladies,
I just wanted to share a great online store. It's called Sock Dreams and they have a huge selection of socks and tights (everything from fishnets to skater socks). They also have gloves, leg warmers, petticoats, etc.

I buy stuff from them all the time and they ship it very fast. It usually takes less than a week to get to me. I thought maybe some of you would be interested for the burlesque performances, halloween, or whatever.

GO GO-a GO GO!

Would anyone be interested in a Go-Go workshop (short workshop, probably only 2 classes or one 2 hour block) ? I would love to teach a routine by the "World Famous Pontani Sisters" --- a campy burlesque/go-go trio of sisters. I usually stick with my own choreography, but this one is too cute not to teach! They have released the rights to perform/teach it, as they have it on one of their instructional videos somewhere. Let me know!

Red scarves for "Fever"

Suspira had mentioned making matching red scarves for the performance of "Fever." Wendy found the perfect fabric at her store in Sanford and I'm yardage hunting to get the rest.

The fabric is a cherry red, sheer chiffon with red glitter. Measurement 15" wide and 58" long. Cost $4.00 each.

How many dancers out there plan on performing at the Hafla and want one? I have 12 left right now but will make more.

Exotic World

In the late 90's, I had a wonderful opportunity to visit "Exotic World", the one and only Burlesque Museum in the US. It is hidden in the desert in Helensdale, CA, but it was one of the most memorable trips I've ever taken. While there, I got to see the "Miss Exotic World" Burlesque competition, and got to meet its owner, Dixie Evans, who was in her day, the "Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque." And its all right there......I even got to take photo in Jayne Mansfield's (one of my childhood idols) pink, heart shaped couch. Hope you enjoy this clip.

Intro - offstage

- Sugar foot, money hands onto stage ending with shoulder shimmy on accent

I don't want a lot for Christmas
- R foot point, L foot point & touch with dip pose – hand to cheek, then grapevine to the L profile, arms out
There is just one thing I need
- hip drops, on “thing” passé R knee and hold out 1 finger, turn to R profile
And I don't care about the presents
- 1 slow bicycle hip, 2 fast
Underneath the Christmas tree
- Sweep arms down to the floor as you rotate to the left, bring them up, around and pose
I don't need to hang my stocking
- Point R hand to audience and sweep to the R, arms in and “hang the stocking” bringing up the left foot

- sweep R arm around head as you turn to the back, hands on booty and wag R,L,R

Another costume question for the Christmas party...

Are we supposed to wear a wrap or cover-up over our burlesque costumes at the Christmas party? I was probably just going to wear mine to the party, as opposed to changing when I get there, because it's kind of like a cute dress with some holiday accents anyway, and I'm not showing much skin at all. Would I still need to wear a cover up? Anyone know what the etiquette is for that?

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR CHRISTMAS BURLESQUE WORKSHOP

Ladies,
I have 14 spots left for the Burlesque workshop. Registration requires full payment of $30 (you can sign up at either studio, or call me with a credit card if you don't regularly come to classes.)

This workshop will take place in Winter Park, from 7:30-10:30pm (give or take how long we may need to learn it!) on the first Sunday in December. Those of you wanting/willing can perform this routine at our Christmas party, the following week. Dancers will need to wear red and white to perform.

- Starting on L hip up, down, U, D, U while stroking right hand down body, on the final “ting” spin to face audience
- Pose: Left arm up, left knee bent forward

The minute you walked in the joint, (da, dum)
- Glove pass down L arm, brush neck, R arm out (Look R, look front)

Our next burlesque choreography "Big Spender" will begin next Wed at 10pm. Although it will be four weeks, it is not a workshop that requires pre-payment. But I do need to know *about* how many ladies will be attending. This is a great routine, because it can be performed as a solo, or in a small group.

I just wanted to thank you all for attending the Boa Workshop. I had so much fun teaching it, and watching you all participate was wonderful! You are all adorable! And I'm so glad you enjoy this fun artform as much as I do. We will continue the burlesque program later this month. I'm uncertain if it will be in workshop form or in regular classes. Princess Farhana is official!

Finally heard back from Miss Farhana (she's performing in Portugual right now). She said she'd be THRILLED to come to Orlando and bump and grind with us! She is touring to possibly December, however, so we may have to wait until early 2008. She asked if I'd call later today so we can finalize everything. She is the diva of divas! Anyone who is unfamiliar with her, I believe her website is www.princessfarhana.com . The only thing is that is her BELLYDANCING website. Her burlesque photos can be seen on her myspace page (she's one of my top friends on myspace if you'd like to view some photos.)

That means we may be able to book someone else to come first. So many choices! So hard to pick!

WORKSHOPS WITH BURLESQUE ARTISTS

Ladies,
I would really like to bring a burlesque artist for a workshop early fall. Last year I had spoken to Zoe (who is a bellydance superstar, but more importantly a BEAUTIFUL burlesque performer with the Yard Dogs Road Show) last year, but at the time, she had never given a burlesque workshop. Now she is able to do so, and has been doing burlesque styling in many of her bellydance workshops. My second idea is a huge inspiration to me. Her name is Princess Farhana of Hollywood. Those of you who don't know her should definately check her out. She did (does) Egyptian style bellydance, but then transistioned into a huge burlesque artist at the Velvet Hammer and other notable burlesque venues. She has a great personality and is REALLY fun and campy. I think she would be incredible for a workshop. Just spending time with her would be a joy......she's a real trip!

With boa between hands shoulder shimmy
Stepping with left foot crossing over right, right toe then out to the side (cross, point, cross, point) turning around in a circle. This takes place for 12 counts
4 counts of shoulder shimmys facing audience. (2counts bending forward, 2 counts standing back up)

"A little respect oh yeah ( Just a little bit)
A little respect ( Just a little Bit)"
Bring boa around the front of your body and flip boa over your head with your right hand with it ending on your right side.
At this same time you will be popping into a pose. Facing front, both knees, right leg facing forward, left leg/foot facing out to the left, left hand on left hip. Do that in 4 counts
5th count throw boa up with right hand and catch it in the center
counts 6-8 walk around (to your left to start)

Take boa and cross it over in front of you (making an x) (2 counts)
Pose facing right corner with boa in right hand up to your head, left hand on hip, left leg bent.
2 hip drops
lower yourself a little (like a 3rd hip drop) and blow a kiss with your left hand.

8 count Step touches next, steping on right foot first all the while swinging the boa over your head.
face left corner, sweep right foot back at the same time that you fling boa over your right shoulder then sachey off stage..

Eeekk... I hope tonights notes are ok... it all seemed to go so fast!

Week three notes... and the challenge continues...

There's a beat, look at the audience

"Hooo your kisses"
roll your right shoulder back while "kissing" the audience

There's a beat at the end of that where you drop the boa from your right hand and use that hand to smack your booty.

"sweeter than honey"
throw over right leg (lift, open, drop), then throw over left leg (lift, close, drop) and roll up on your right knee, left knee up
your left hand is still holding your boa and your right hand is now placed on your forehead pushing it back, like at the begining of the song.

"and guess what so is my money"
Look at the audience, look straight ahead of you and do 2 chest lifts (lift chest up, down, up, down)

"All I want you to do for me"
Right hand goes over your hand and back, as you stand up and end with head you facing opposite side. Left hand still holding the boa.

"is give it to me whn you get home"
reach your right hand down your right leg and grab the boa with your right hand.

"( Re re re re"
While looking at the audience, twirl the boa with the right hand.

"( Re re re re"
While looking at the audience, and twirling boa step right foot over left, then left foot out, then right foot over left, then step facing back. While twirling your boa, pull it through your right hand so you will end up with it even between your two hands.

"spect) Yeah baby whip it to me
( Just a little bit) when you get home now ( Just a little bit)"
still facing back, 2 hip bumps to the right, 2 hip bumps to the left, 2 hip bumps to the right
Step left, step left to end with you facing forward.

Throw your boa over your head, still holding it with two hands, and bend completely over

"find out what it means to me"
Snap head up to look at audience for these 4 counts

While letting go of the boa with your left hand, flip boa over your head with your right hand with it ending on your right side.
At this same time you will be popping into a pose. Facing front, both knees, right leg facing forward, left leg/foot facing out to the left, left hand on left hip.

" take out the TCP"
while still in above pose, take boa and wrap it in front of you, then around your neck (from left then around to right)

walk in a circle 8 counts starting on right foot toward the front throwing the boa over your right shoulder.
While walking around grab other end of the boa, end facing the back.

let the boa frame your butt
Peek over right shoulder
Peek over left shoulder

"Instramental break"
Take 4 counts to lift boa above head
4 counts facing your right, get down to the floor, right hand down, left hand above your head

Ok, here is my attempt at the choreography. I am going to try to put the lyrics in quotes above the move that goes with it.

Walk in sexy like for the intro (or stand in place... :-) )

With your right hand on your head, left hand on your hip, step out to the side with your right foot and snap your head back (don't hurt yourself!)

While popping your head back to look at audience, point at the audience with your right hand.

While continuing to look left, circle your hip around (left, back, right, front, left).

At the next beat, look at audience with right hand slightly behind head.

Turn body facing right, lift left leg up and place down slightly in front of right leg.

Pop your butt up in the air, right hand on butt, left hand on left thigh.

with your left hand, feel down and then up your left leg (don't know a better way to put it)

place your right foot over your left and spin to face the back

with legs spread apart, squat down and back up, sliding hands down and up thighs

Final Routine Notes

Pas de bourree (left foot back on toes, Right foot back on toes, left foot forward flat foot, right forward flat foot) Take off your left glove during this move.
While waving glove above head (lasso style) step right, touch left
Step left, touch right and throw glove at the audience (with the whistle in the music)
walk around in a small circle to your left
3 step turn to your right and big pose
3 step turn to your left and big pose
turn facing your right bent over with left hand on hip, throw a kiss with the right hand to the audience
turn over your left should to face to the left and smack your right butt cheek with your right hand.
Standing up,Right Jazz hand out to your right (down, near hip). Then left Jazz hand out to your left (down near hip).
Right Jazz hand up above head to your right, then Left Jazz hand up to above head to your left.
Call the boys (aggressively) with your right hand, left hand on hip, walking back.
Turn around over left shoulder to face right, throw head down and toss head back up.

We are planning the Orlando Bellydance 5th anniversary party, and I thought ending the night with the burlesque routine would be hilarious and fun. Anyone brave enough??? :)

Please note that since children will be there, whatever you have on under your skirt must not be too skimpy. You could wear little tap shorts or something of the sort with tights or something. It should give the fun and funny vibe, not the obsene!!!

Choreography for Class... Part 2

Wow! Great class tonight ladies!!! Here is newest parts! Again, please excuse me if you don't understand my crazy notes.

7 steps toward the front right corner, 8 count is 2 vulgar pelvic thrusts.
2 steps to the left, then stop to present boobs
1 more step to left then shoulder shimmies walking back (possibly 3 counts)
8 counts (4 slow counts) walk in a circle to your left, while doing this begin stripping off your right glove with your left hand down to your wrist.
Holding glove at the wrist, thrust hands out to the right (2counts), then thrust hands out to the left (2 counts)
bend over foward while completely taking glove off, then toss it behind you.
Take 4 sashay(sp?) steps to the right corner, left hand on hip, right hand in front of you, wrist bent.
2 bicycle hips forward, right hand up, wrist bent.
4 sashay steps backwards, right hand back in front of you, wrist bent.
hands down and out, hip swing front, then hip swing back.
2 count pose (any pose) then another 2 count pose (any pose)
4 count pas de bourree (right foot back on toes, left foot back on toes, right foot forward flat foot, left foot forward flat foot)
Point right then Pelvic Thrust Right
Point left then Pelvic Thrust Left
then walk in a semi circle to the back, left hand on hip, right hand shaking your finger "no no no" to audience.
Turn over your right shoulder and smack right butt cheek (hee hee... i just said butt cheek)
Turn over your left shoulder and smack left butt cheek (tee hee... i said it again)
Then do a large hip circle to the rear
then stick your butt out, holding hands out in front of you and shake your booty to the music
Turn over your left shoulder and look at the audience... "Oh, was that me?"

Ok, so this is the hardest choreography to write out. I am find it hard to explain stuff, but I did my best. Hope you can all understand what I mean. For better or worse:

Starting on right foot, 4 steps forward while arms coming over head.
4 counts turning to your left. Right hand stays up to wave to audience, left hand on hip.
Hands show of chest and slide down to hip level (ala Tempest Storm)
Pivot around and left shoulder roll.
4 slow steps to your right, right hand behind your head, left hand swings forward and back.
Turn to face opposite direction, 2 steps with Left hand behind your hand and right hand swings forward and back.
Facing forward, Right hand above head, hand out, right hip out, left hand across stomach.
Facing forward, left hand above head, hand out, left hip out, right hand across stomach.
Facing forward, right hand on face, left hand across stomach, slow hip circle.
4 small steps walking forward with hands moving in circles.
Turn facing your right, bend over, 4 hip circles.
4 touch step backs (Bettie Page style)
While hands start unzipping your skirt, 2 hip bumps (one to right, then left) then continue until facing back.
Holding unzipped skirt together in back, turn over right shoulder and look at audience, then back, then turn over left shoulder and look at audience.
Facing the back, shimmy down out of the skirt.
Take 2 steps out of skirt (right foot, left foot) picking up skirt.
Throw skirt over your right shoulder (a the whistle sound in the music).
Coyly face the front again, walking round to your right.
With a Hip out to the right, left hand across stomach, Right arm glides over head and down.
With a Hip out to the Left, right hand across stomach, left arm glides over head and down.
Hands behind head, kick to the right with your left foot, then to your left with your right foot.
Facing forward, bend over and bounce 4 times.
Standing up, (watch out, another Tempest move!) Right Jazz hand out to your right (down, near hip). Then left Jazz hand out to your left (down near hip).
Right Jazz hand up above head to your right, then Left Jazz hand up to above head to your left.
Make two fists bring them both arms down, bent at elbows so fists facing upward.
Turn to right, Show off chest again and bring hands down to side.
