I usually just tell the checker/clerk to throw it away for me so it doesn't wind up in a bag or in my wallet.

my usual routine involves gathering 8 to 10 in my front left pocket where they can mingle and get comfortable. after an appropriate number of them have gathered i will give them a good bathing in the wshing machine. If iam feeling particularly cruel that day i may grab a beer and sit next to the washing machine and listen to the poor things scream as they slowly lose cohesion and join one another as a massive paperwad.
I like to save these large wads of paper so that i may from time to time accost those who have upset me.... people are ussualy startled by the size of my paperwad... thier surprize gives me time to scuttle away snickering at their shock.....
