Okay guys & girls:
I have a postcard in a frame hanging on my wall next to my Mac computer.
There is a piece of art on it, it is a painting.
It is a very figurative painting, almost real as a photograph.
What do you see in front of your inner eye?
What's on it?

Mon, July 16, 2007 - 8:19 PMwindmill? (just a fleeting impression, might be wrong...) -

Re: New Quiz!
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 10:34 PMAs soon as I closed my eyes i saw something like an basket.
I thought at first it was a boat in my mind image, like an ark or something.
Then I thought it was a round barn, and didnt think that was likely. -

Re: New Quiz!
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 12:40 AMTim: no windmill, but the form/contour of it is close. No wings however.
Dav: No barn, basket, boat or storehouse. Not even close. Air around, no water. -

Re: New Quiz!
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 5:29 PMNo, not Vincent van Gogh. But geographically you're getting closer. The sky is by day, the vision may be a bit obscured. -

Wed, July 18, 2007 - 7:39 PMI was thinking maybe Mona Lisa, so I think maybe I'm for a loss. I did, however, get a very clear image of your Mac. *smart-ass grin* -
-
Re: New Quiz!
Wed, July 18, 2007 - 11:48 PMYou are pretty close! Contours are pretty similar, also the colors except that the sky is more blue. The Apple is actually closer than you think! -

Fri, July 20, 2007 - 8:10 AMIt's a painting!
But who said something about Big Ben?

Thu, April 24, 2008 - 3:54 PMHoly crap!
I saw a fuzzy contour LIKE a windmill. I said windmill earlier.
So it's some similar structure, then.

Fri, April 25, 2008 - 11:22 PMI got something about Napoleon.... -
-
Re: New Quiz!
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 1:48 AMThe painter is from the country where Napoleon had his Waterloo. There is green in it, no windmill, no grass.
This is on its way to becoming the longerst quizz in history! -

Re: New Quiz!
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 1:53 PMStones, mountains.....is there a human shape? standing -
-
Re: New Quiz!
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 3:39 PMhuman shape standing indeed! --that is, the upper part is visible, torso. -

Re: New Quiz!
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 4:45 PMno face....I don't get a face. But, you say it looks realistic.
No face?
Hmmmmmmm......covered? turned away? obscured for a reason.
I can't get anything else....I am stuck on the whole face thing....or lack of one.
Maybe I will try again later. -

Tue, April 29, 2008 - 2:53 AMYou are so right on about the face: it is covered. -

Re: New Quiz!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 12:42 PMI have to tell you, Tim and I worked on this for a bit last night on the phone together.....and while we were talking I remembered a Belgian artist whose work I had seen.
When I typed the name into the search engine it came up with a work that he did that made me laugh out loud....and made a little sense to me. Tim wasn't on the computer at the time so I had to describe it to him, but he also remembered that artist's work....
Would you happen to have (just a shot here....) a Magritte printed postcard? -
-
Re: New Quiz!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 1:37 PMWoW!!! You are right there! And a printed post card indeed!
Now which one? -
-
Re: New Quiz!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 2:21 PMWell.....that will take some more work! :-D
I could browse through the works of Magritte to see what strikes me.....but I am relatively sure that it is a work with an apple...so that would narrow my search a bit.
I'd rather try to get an image in my mind first and then look it up.
I may not be able to do anything until later as I am getting ready to go to a class....but you can bet that your postcard will not be far from my mind :-D
I should be able to post sometime later tonight. -

Re: New Quiz!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 5:06 PMThen I will leave the suspense for what it is right now.
Looking forward to know what you'll decide on.
I'll post the picture in the gallery of this tribe tomorrow. -

Re: New Quiz!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 11:58 PMMy first choice (maybe) would be La Carte Postale...though it is not real close to what I was seeing.
I did not see a giant green apple!!
The stones are not the same...these are very straight....mine were more free form.
The mountains are different...and I had a much brighter blue in my mind.
I did *see* a human form....no face was distinguishable..
junomain.files.wordpress.com/200....jpg
This is a photo I found....as a Tribute to Magritte....with Parliament in the background...this is the color of blue I was seeing.
I guess Parliament *could* be shaped like mountains....but the stones in this wall are all wrong for what I was seeing.
www.markthomasphotos.com/creat...9.html
Then, there is this one....again, I never saw an apple.....there are no mountains or mountain shapes...the sky is not as blue...but the face is obscured....
www.flickr.com/photos/willwm/2065975725/
I wish I could just "find" what I saw! ;-D Maybe this isn't an exact science and I am trying to make it too literal?
I find that if I go with my initial sense I do much better...but given too much time I can overthink and get things twisted up.
Is that "normal" do you think?
I guess this is a good place to practice with all of you! Thank you!

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 12:00 AMJust a thought.....the British aspect.....the Bowler Hat? -

Re: New Quiz!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:02 AMThe bowler hat.
The apple.
It was there, third one.
I post mine in the gallery now. -

Re: New Quiz!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:07 AMLOL!! Son Of Man :)
Very interesting!
Why is it that things come through differently? I mean, you'd think that the green apple would be the MOST identifiable or be able to be picked out...because it really doesn't *belong*.
Thank you for doing this...it was a great exercise!
Will you do another? -
-
Re: New Quiz!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 3:45 AMIn this case maybe because I've understood the apple in this picture to be EXACTLY the referential frame people adopt when in this world that impedes them to see things simply as they are. The proverbial apple Adam ate in Paradise that twisted his perception of things.
I just had to re-read Jerome Rothenberg's THE LORCA VARIATIONS (XII) "Federico, Newton, Adam"...
But the question you raise is interesting: could it have to do with color? shape? Or is it my sheer "interpretation" of the image that somehow bleeds through in how I have beamed it out?
I'm impressed and happy you got it, and the questions you raise are worth exploring!
Much Love!

Re: New Quiz!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 6:09 AMI am not looking at the responses but for some reason I see a mans face kind of close up when I first read this. If I try to concentrate I see sort of a farm or country like scene. Maybe a mansion or castle in the background? And possibly in a valley like setting with maybe a water source? -

New Quiz! Part II
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 6:32 AMInteresting.... you may be talking about another picture hanging at that same wall next to my Apple Mac.
You seem to descibe that one!
I guess that means the Quiz goes on: what is the second picture showing? -
-
Re: New Quiz! Part II
Wed, May 28, 2008 - 5:10 PMmm, something with a bridge on a river in a city setting in the background? Boat going by, like, uhm, the river...oh, I think it's Rhine...not much for geography, sorry. Darker colors, bridge on left partly out of the picture, that's what I'm imagining. But I'm totally biased by the previous comments, and I can't get a river out of my head. I think the RVers would call that AOL. -

Re: New Quiz! Part II
Thu, May 29, 2008 - 12:14 AMEnve, you describe the view from my window, the balcony door, from where you see a bridge that crosses a channel, a 'leat', which is in direct connection to the Old Rhine, they row bioats there 'Oxford style' and 0ther boats... it's on the right however... not on the wall. -

Re: New Quiz! Part II
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 5:43 AMYeah, but then someone started to say there was more, and indeed there is another picture hanging on that same piece of wall, so game's on again....
