If you were going to get married ( or already are, but say, could do it again ; ) would you have a traditional white wedding, or a belly dancey wedding?? and if you chose a dancers wedding, what do you imagine?

Re: Rachel - and other dancers lol -
Wed, July 16, 2008 - 8:02 AMI just got married in February - not my first, but definitely my favorite! It wasn't bellydance-ish, it was Medeival. Sis and I wore Renaissance gowns (I was pregnant, so the fullness worked for me) with corset bustiers and laced gauntlets. Groom, Best Man, and Ring Bearer wore poet shirts that matched my sister and me. And I made all of them!!! I was sewing right up til 4:00 and the wedding was at 7:00, but it was soooo worth it.
I would love to someday renew our vows and do a bellydance theme... I'm sure hubby would go for it. We originally wanted to get married in the back yard, but when we decided on February (wanted to get married before baby lol) the yard wedding was rather out of the question in Kansas. The next go-round will be in the yard I'm sure, and much more condusive to a bellydance theme.
Are impending nuptials the reason for your question, perhaps? -

Wed, July 16, 2008 - 4:00 PM~blush~ lol. I'm getting married next october, and we're having a faery/medieval/hafla wedding. I'm wearing a modified ghawazee coat ( underbust, giant hood, angel sleeves, and the hem will come above my knees in the front, mid calf in back ), with a 25 yard skirt, lilies in muh hair lol. Hubby will wear cloak, poofy pants and knee high boots.. I have alot of ideas on how to do every thing ( we have a smallish budget, about $2000 - 3000 ) and i was just kinda wondering about any one else's ideas, because it's mostly just me planning it. -

Wed, July 16, 2008 - 9:52 PMWe did our wedding for about $1500 - it was a while ago of course, but it is possible to go nice but inexpensive. My hubby was a private chef at the time so we had access to an industrial kitchen where we made all the food ourselves -- except the cake which was a gift from my parents and they also payed for the hall rental of $150 (look at community facilities - parks and rec, an arboretum, if religious a church hall or basement). I bought the bridesmaids dresses at the Nordstrom Rack for $30 each (red silk and very pretty!) and we covered the tuxes (had a coupon for half-off or something). We bought all the plates, cups, drinks, utensils, napkins, most of the food (for our prep, at Price Club now Costco I believe), no booze but Martinelli's (hall would not allow it and the hubby's family is mormon), my brother is a DJ so he played music for us as a gift. There are really good ways to go price-effective - a friend did pulled pork bar-b-que sandwiches at their wedding and that saved them a helluva lot of money on catering. You don't need to blow the life-savings of your children and grandchildren in order to have a good wedding today.

Re: Rachel - and other dancers lol -
Wed, July 16, 2008 - 9:42 PMOur wedding was a very simple get together of family and close friends but absolutely lovely - fairly traditional, but not religious. Next year is our 20th and I am thinking we may need a bellydancer or two for our anniversary party. Not sure if I will go with a ME theme but we just might ... -

Re: Rachel - and other dancers lol -
Fri, August 1, 2008 - 2:18 PMi'm not married, but hope to be in the not too distant future!! and i've always said i'd have a hafla hen party, as i think they are just the best type of parties, where the night is focused more on the social aspect & the dancing rather than how drunk you can get, and how many men you can kiss on your last night of freedom! As i don't drink i'm not into the usual hen nights anyway!
But for my wedding, i'd probably go more tradtional, just becuase i'd hope it was going to be my only time to get wed, and i suppose like numerous others, i'd like that feeling of being a 'princess' for the day, in the white/cream gown, with pretty hair, and cute bridesmaids and just enjoying dressing up very special which you don't do every day!
Good luck with the wedding plans, sounds great!
