Re: Electric Cars: A National Security Priority. .
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 2:26 PMTrouble with electric cars is that you have to plug them in...to an outlet that has electricity and, in this country, over 60% of our electricity is produced by burning coal. Won't make a goddam difference in atmospheric C02 levels...except increase them even faster than they already are increasing.
The other problem is batteries have not kept up with the technology. We need a FAR better battery invented.
But I agree, let's dump these bastards in the corporate war machine... -

Re: Electric Cars: A National Security Priority. .
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 2:43 PMI would like to add that whether cars are electric or petro, they still require about 20 barrels of oil to produce them. -

Re: Electric Cars: A National Security Priority. .
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 6:07 PMI'm not against using energy to build something but we have too much of a throw away mentality in this country. We should be using our cars beyond 500,000 miles and 20 years of use. -

Wed, October 28, 2009 - 8:58 PMwe need to focus on Congress next. . .my plan is to give them a people's agenda. . .pass it our lose your job.
the problem with corporations and planned obsolescence is that uninvolved owners need to keep those quarterly profits rolling in. . .another flaw in the system .

Thu, October 29, 2009 - 3:43 PMHey B, my Toyota 4x is at 190,000 and 17 years (it's a 93). Doesn't go as fast, hates hills now, but it's still running. I just keep hoping it continues as I can't afford to fix it if it breaks.
Yep, pickerrick, same old same old. Our military uses more oil per day than anything else in the world (read this recently). Not a real surprise that it's willing to invade and kill others to continue. Of course all the rest of the world's militaries are in the same boat. Without oil, they'll be marching like the Romans did. Soon enough they'll be using swords and pikes again, too, I imagine... -

Thu, October 29, 2009 - 3:58 PMMy 96 Jeep has 273,000 and it still gets about the same millage as it did when I bought it. I do a lot of maintenance myself. I'll get over 300,000 but I doubt that I will get 500,000. I just put on a new door from a salvage yard last winter. Recycling more parts. Think of what we could do if we actually designed cars to last 500,000 or more miles. -
