Silk/nylon dye questions

Two questions please,

Ok, so I called Dharmatrading to get my order in for silk for the art car.

She recommended I use Nylon instead, said it had much better anti-fray qualities and is much cheaper, plus has a higher whiteness level than silk and held acid dyes very well.

What do you guys think?

What color dyes should I buy? The only one the website says fluoresces is the UV yellow. I need lots of greens, what would be the best colors to mix to get various shades of green that all fluoresce as much as possible?

No moderator, no posts in nearly a year, I KNOW you guys are much more active than that!

I wanna make silk for the Xara Cara,
I already know many of you
and met a couple more last night,
it's 2008 and it's never too soon to start planning on making things for this summer's events
and i like to stir things up.

So, where is everyone?

I would be happy to host a gathering at the ranch, I have tons of room for fire play and dance.

Post to this thread if you would like to get together and get your glam on! If there is enough interest, I will have a gathering at the ranch. There is space for camping if that helps.

San Diego PRIDE

This was my first pride parade in San Diego. Luckily we got to experience it from IN THE PARADE! We were with a bunch of surfer chicks BARRELING them with our FLAGS! We were surfin' the rainbows!!! HOW HOT IS THAT?!

I was wondering if anyone else went to Pride in SD or other cities lately, and if so what was your favorite part of the celebration, parade, etc?

makes me happy! Just knowing it's here : )

I've always sought out bright, deep colors to wear, as they have such a positive influence on my mood. The brighter the better. Why do so many people drape themselves in dull colors or black so often-- is is to almost disappear? Even if I'm not feeling so well, throwing on some clothing that's wildly bright works wonders for my state of mind.

Michael Franti is Rainbow Fabulous

I just listened to a song that I had never heard by Michael Franti. It is called "Yes I Will" off of the album “Closer to the Sky”. The chorus at the end is "When you’re sad and alone, that's when the rainbow comes".

The song was all about making it through the hard times by continuing to talk with friends, singing, or being creative... just be yourself, love yourself and you'll make it through the hard times... believe in the rainbow and it will carry you away to the joy you deserve in life.

I still have tears in my eyes. I love Michael.

This tribe was inspired by all the vibrant and colorful costumes we’ve seen on the playa, and especially at LA Decom this past Saturday. Everywhere we turned there was another Rainbow Fabulous personality expressing themselves with pure living color. We thought it would be a great idea to collect everyone who expresses themselves with rainbow colors in a tribe so that we could all inspire and amuse each other with our new rainbow FANTASTIC projects and costumes!

How the Leopard Became a Panther

Hee hee, as I posted in the previous thread about being a leopard, I was reminded of a story from my childhood about a rainbowfabulous leopard. Luckily, I found a version of it on the internet, reinterpreted by a kid.

How the Leopard Became a Panther -- by Michael Rzepka, age 12

A long, long time ago, when gods reigned over the Earth, and before people existed, there were only a few of each animal in the world. These animals were young and wild.
.....One of these animals was a fast leopard who lived in a humid rain forest in the East Indies. During the long, hot days, the leopard slept in the tall trees. But when night brought a curtain of darkness, the hungry leopard hunted for food.
.....The leopard had a large body and long legs. His legs were good for jumping and running. Each paw had huge claws that the leopard used for hunting. He had good eyesight for seeing in the dark, and big teeth for eating his unfortunate prey. The leopard also had a soft skin covered with smooth fur. The fur was spotted with all the colors of the rainbow and each spot was outlined in white.
.....The other animals in the rain forest thought the leopard's coat was the most beautiful thing they had ever seen. They were always complimenting the leopard on his beautiful spotted coat. "How handsome you look today," grunted the elephant. "How your brilliant coat sparkles!" screeched the peacock. Everyone admired the leopard's coat because it contained so many colorful colors!
.....The leopard became conceited and vain about his beautiful spotted coat and thought he was the most beautiful creature in the world. He even believed he was more beautiful than the gods!
.....The gods were very upset because the leopard was so vain, and they sent a messenger to confront the leopard. The messenger came down from the heavens and said to the leopard, "Who are you to think that you are the most beautiful creature in the world?"
.....The leopard replied, "There are two reasons why I think I am the most beautiful creature in the world. The first is that everyone says I am beautiful, and the second is that I am the color of the rainbow! I am sorry that the gods are jealous, but I am even more beautiful than them!"
.....The messenger answered, "Fine, but you may come to regret this bragging." Then the messenger left.
.....The leopard left the meeting site and went on with his life.
.....That night, the leopard went out to hunt, like always. He did not know that his spots were glowing! The gods had put a spell on the leopard so the leopard's colors could be seen even at night. The leopard started stalking his prey, as quietly as a mouse at midnight. But then, his prey saw the leopard and ran away!
.....The leopard had no clue as to why his prey ran away. He thought he was doing everything right. So, the leopard tried hunting again, and again his prey ran away! After the third night of missing his prey, the leopard was getting very hungry and very frustrated.
.....That is when the leopard noticed a clear, small stream nearby. As the leopard walked over to the stream to take a drink, he asked himself, "Why do I keep missing my prey?"
.....As the leopard bent over the stream to take a drink, he looked into the water and discovered that his spots were glowing in the dark. That is when the leopard knew the gods had put a spell on him.
.....The next morning, the leopard called to the gods and asked to meet with them. A beam of sparkling yellow light came down from the heavens and took the leopard up to the gods. After all the gods gathered around, the leopard asked, "Why have you cast this evil spell on me? Why have you made my spots glow in the dark?"
....."We wanted you to realize how vain you had become," answered one of the gods.
....."Color isn't all it's cracked up to be," said another god.
.....The leopard thought for a moment, then asked the gods, "I am sorry for being so vain. Could you please change my spots so I will be able to hunt again?"
.....Then the gods said to the leopard, "The only way we will stop your spots from glowing is if you agree to be the color black. If you will be all black, like the night, you will be able to hunt again."
....."Oh… I guess so," said the leopard.
.....Poof! The gods changed the leopard's beautiful spotted coat into soft, black fur. "You are now all black," the gods told the leopard, "and from now on, instead of being a spotted leopard, you will be called a black panther."
.....From that day forward, there was a new kind of leopard in the rain forest—a fierce, lonely hunter known as the black panther.

The moral of this story is that beauty isn't everything. Don't be vain about your appearance!

So...

Who's going! I am, and if the powers that be allow me to bring my R.V, I will have the most fabulous digs at the fest! I would be willing to center a Rainbow Fab camp around my R.V, its 40 feet long so that would be quite the party!
Can't wait to strutt my stuff in my new 8 inch tall platform boots. I'm working on more costume stuff too, this year is gonna be, well... Fabulous!

Good Morning Rainbows!

This morning started off totally different then the yesterday. Yesterday I was greeted with a $500 bill that reared its head from over 2 years ago. Not 2 mention it was 4 a crown that I had put on my tooth! HA Ha ha... blagh. Yesterday went on with some glum and gloom, and then I realized I could change all that.

I got on the phone and started calling my friends. I knew we were performing this weekend~ so there was that 2 look 4ward 2. Now there is a slew of my best girls, and even a hunky date, to take with me! That cheered me up!

And even better news, last night I was given permission to move into my latest and greatest apartment this weekend. Previously I was scheduled 2 move in2 it next Wed. What a releif 2 have extra time, and 2 B able 2 get out of my current place early... MOTORCYCLES SUCK! (Sorry, just had 2 get that off my chest). YES 2 the new place... WALKING distance from the beach. The proper place 4 a Unicorn Palace, I must say.

GLAMOUR SCHOOL!

Glamour School is where we learn from each other about all that is Glamorous. Students are sent to Glamour School 2 learn the ways of functional & fantastical glamour that goes to 11. U can send yourself 2 Glamour School, or kindly suggest that some tragic soul comes to Glamour School. Of course, scholarships are available to those eager to learn. But if behavior becomes a problem and the glamour does not CHECK~ then we’ve likely got us a "Glamour School Dropout".

We take our lessons from our own actions~ positive we encourage, negative is recognized and handled. Like Fashion Police, it is part of the creative brainstorming process 2 spy your neighbors’ ideas~ positive & negative, always using constructive criticism plus providing a solution (when @ all possible!).

Lesson #1~ EL Wire takes a costume to 11. Without light, it can only achieve a perfect 10. (which is still great, right?)

#2~ Steph looks hot with her blue glitter paint bindis! They hardly came off at all… No smudging for a looooooooooooo~~~ng time, 4 sure. Where did U get that paint girl? And what's the brand. If U found an E-bay link so I could C the bottle, it would RAWK. But U can always show me the bottle when we get 2gether.

Fantastical Costume Stories!

I’ve got one 4 U. It was from this weekend @ LA Decom and reflects upon Pink Diddy’s new profile pic…

We’ve been partying all day and night. We saw the whole thing start to finish. It’s the end of the night and everyone has left. We’re helping clean stuff up and closing down the camps. I’m in my “work costume”. Getting’ tired and walking back 2 find my friends, I round the corner and there are 2 pink’tastic creatures proppin’ up the wall. They looked like Fallen Pink Angels from Rainbow Land. It was a HILARIOUS scene!

Being Rainbow Fabulous in the Desert

Just got back from Dark Skies and I miss those peeps already!

I met so many fabulous peeps there. I did my firey gothic thing, my lover Karenina, did a Rainbow Fabulous Faerie! She was so cute in her chaps and furry boots!

We were totaly a hit, those Vegas peeps are totally cool. Mutaytor added alot of fire to the mix and that rocked!

Karenina and I did a cage dance in a spinning cage that was just intense!
I spun alot of fire, I was totally connected.

Lets show up as a Rainbow Fabulousness theme camp in May, it would be so cool...

To me, glamour is described by a simple, yet profound equation:

GLAMOUR = FASHION + FUNCTION

No matter how cute you look, if your costume isn't functional, you need to glamour check that OUT! of the picture. 5 inch spike heels are hot for strutting around a small house party, but not practical on the playa or outdoor festivals. Illuminated clothing is glamourous as hell, but if you're chaffing and getting poked by wires all night, then you are not going to be feeling good...and hence, you won't be able to share and delight in the festivities. Baby, you got to feel good to look good! I have an LED-lighted tutu that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, because it makes it 1) easy to spot me in a crowd, 2) easy to see inside a porto-pottie at night, and 3) easy to see the ground in dark areas, so I don't trip. Plus, it's glamorous!
