My name is Rom Deussen, I'm Romani, and my family originated, generations ago, from Rajasthan. We emigrated to the old Bohemia, but during the wars my family was mostly exterminated (the last speaker of Bohemian Roma died in the '70's, so I speak a different dialect). I do Kuchipudi, and am learning other forms of Indian dance as I can, out here in Utah (recently moved). I LOVE Rajasthani dance (I do Roma dance from Central and Eastern Europe) and I would love to see more of it come to the United States. So thrilled to see a tribe dedicated to it!!!!!

Re: Brief Intro...
Sun, December 30, 2007 - 5:14 PMThat is sooo cool taht you are Romani and into dance!! I am writing my thesis on Tony Gatlif's film, Vengo, and have been doing lots of research on the Roma. You all have had a terrible time almost everywhere from what I have heard. I started studying Kalbelia dance after seeing his film Latcho Drom. I was already doing Odissi (which is very similar to Kuchipudi, from the neighboring state of Orissa) and have been to India 3 times to learn dance. I would love to see you perform!! I'm in Nebraska, but may be moving soon. If we live nearby, we'll have to meet some time! Were you born in the US??
