This invitation goes out to anyone that is interested.... All the classes are getting together and going on a bellydance fieldtrip! We organize something about twice a year and it always lots of fun. This time around we're going to Atlas Restaurant in Fremont, CA

So i have this instructional DVD coming out.....

and i've been saying that it's coming out now... i think since - well ... let's see.
November, 2007

which puts me just about 6 months behind schedule. and anyone who knows me... well - they just know that that's how i roll. 6 months behind schedule is just about the target date. if i've been saying something for 6 months, then you know it's just going to happen any minute.

but the thing is that michelle and I shot a DVD in november, but it turned out to have lots of sound problems, and some camera problems and just some things that i wished i had noticed and not done, or wished i had noticed and HAD done, and now i want to redo the whole thing, since i have a chance to go back and fix all the problems. and isn't that what evryone really wants? a second chance?

But now I ask myself - 'does the world really need another beginner instructional DVD?"
and wouldn't it be so much more fun to do some advanced choreography or something more interesting... so i'm posting this to find out...

my perspective is completely contaminated by being bellydance obsessed and crazed. i have no idea about what is real and what is only living in my head.

and anyway - i will definitely and very probably have some sort of instructional dvd for sale by...

Rakkasah has moved to a new location this year:

The Fair grounds charge $5 parking fee.

Our time slot is 12:32 pm on Sunday, March 16th
You need to arrive AT LEAST 1.5 hours early for check-in, so be prepared to leave bright and early on sunday morning.

We have a two week vacation for the session break, so there will be no class on monday or thursday after Rakkasah until March 31.

We should all go to hip hop classes together instead. It's fun. ... Tuesday nights at dance visions 6 - 7 pm. I'll be there embarrassing myself. (I am very white, and not funky).

BDSS Ticket for tomorrow

A bunch of us (6) are going to see the Belly Dance Super Stars tomorrow at 3 pm in Napa. Unfortunately one of us can't make it so we have an extra ticket. The seats are pretty decent--first row balcony. $35 for the ticket with carpooling options from the south bay or SF.

PM me if you're interested. You (we) would probably need to leave SF by 1:30--not sure for the south bay.

i d be EXTREMELY curious what it is going to cover, when it will come out..
i keep returning to the tribe several times a day in hope of further info :)))
especially as an overseas fan, i d be glad if someone could tell somthing s on what s covered in sandra s classes etc.

ps. as there was talk about favourite youtube stuff here recently.. have you guys checked out the bellydance "star search" show hizzy ya nawaem (or also spelled hezy ya nwa3em)? i think the dancers are SOO good, check out fadwa (morrocan), estella (lebanese from costa rica, the winner), and my close favourite second to fadwa the stunningly beautiful, a ukrainian girl called layla (leila). search for "world belly dance championship" finales ukraine, costa rica, morocco, their finale performances. they re SO good. oh and the "duets" i LOVE them. :))
but maybe you know the show anyway ;)

Just wanted to remind you of the By Dancers For Dancers show coming up on Feb 24. We need all the enthusiastic, wild cheering people we can get in the crowd because we will be shooting a performance DVD that night. So practice that zaghareet and come on down.

Also, at intermission and after the show we will take the cameras through the audience to interview people about what give a dancer the "it" factor. That footage will appear on a future Secrets of the Stage segment!

So I was walking down the Alameda tonight with a friend, and I saw a picture of a belly dancer in the window of a photography shop- and it was Sandra! It was beautiful! Not just because it was Sandra, but it looked like an oil painting. It made me so proud to be her student. =)

not that it's very appropriate post for this tribe... but I just always was curious what is the earthquake feels like - I heard many stories but never experienced. So here it is finally... I was not scared at all at the moment, but was scared after... definitely don't want to experience it again!

Oct 7th, Newark workshop with Sandra Reviewed

Today, I had the pleasure of taking Sandra’s workshop in Newark, CA. The topic was drops, twists and turns…unexpected combinations to captivate the audience. I knew she was starting to get out into the workshop circuit! I wanted to take from her for a while but just haven’t been able to get out her way! So I sponsored her to do a workshop in my area. She was well organized and had printed handouts of the combinations that were covered. She had her cool boom box with her, in which, I think I might go out and get one too! She also wore these cute workout pants that had these pockets on them for the small remote to control the boom box! I always learn good things from all workshops I take and this one is no different. I was very impressed. Her personality makes it all the more enjoyable.
We started with a great warm up using a few combinations over and over! Then we did some stretches. After, we are all warmed up and introduced ourselves, she started the first combination. Her workshop was done as workshops are usually done…fast pace and loads of info. I like the fact that it was combinations and not choreography. Don’t get me wrong, choreography workshops are great. I just learn better in a combination environment. Sandra is a beautiful, talented dancer, and teacher. She has a lot to offer. If she does another workshop you need to jump at the chance to take it!

On that note, would anyone be intersted in a workshop in newark with sandra in dec or jan sometime??? im hooked and feel i need another one!! ;)

I was grateful to be able to take Sandra's workshop in Newark this past Sunday.

I did not wake up enthusiastic for this beautiful Sunday though. Lovely weather but lousy mood until I started dancing.

It was so enjoyable watching Sandra dance. She's very beautiful, talented and effective. I even liked the warm-up exercise! The combinations we learned in the workshop were all creative, fun, and challenging. Well, I realized my left side doesn't always function as my right side.. something definitely worth working on.

I took Sandra's Thursday class in Menlo Park once, but it's too far for me. It's great that she finally came over to Fremont for the workshop. Thanks to Shayna for putting this together! Hope Sandra can come over more often.. or even a regular weekly class?? Please... ??

If not.. I guess, Menlo Park, here I come!

I'm super-productive today at posting on tribe:))

sorting my pale of tips yesterday (yay!) I found my second "whereisgeoge" bill! It has several red stamps all over saying "this bill is registered with www.wheresgeorge.com".
if you get this bill you have to go to www.wheresgeorge.com (US currency tracking project) and register it there indicating location, and then you can see the history and the map of how this particular bill traveled around US / world!

I'm wondering if anyone else got those? this is a funny thing!:)

Last weekend’s workshop

I will start with a suggestion: don’t sign up for 2 days in a row for any kind of workshop. It’s hard on your body and half way you will loose concentration.

What I mostly loved about Raqia, were her powerful facial expressions. There is a combination of passion and strength in those eyes… She so reminded me of my intimidating Romanian teachers that were pushing the student until they were reaching perfection…

She mentioned that the new trend in belly dancing is to combine core moves. No more simple single moves!!!! The only disadvantage that I see here is that the movement becomes a little blurry. In all honesty I prefer sharp, visible moves. On this note, I just want to reiterate that I am very happy that I found such a beautiful and talented teacher in Sandra.
