Greetings!
Can you believe Fall is here already? So much has happened since the last newsletter. I hope you find this newsletter well-rounded, balanced, informative and helpful. Too often we fall into a rut or routine, when there is so much going on around us. We would see so much if we could remember to open our eyes and minds... this is what I strive for.
Upcoming Workshops
Because of my graduate school schedule, I can only travel to foreign countries during school breaks. So, the next trip will over the Thanksgiving Holiday, in Mexico City. I will do a 1.5 hour theater show and teach 12 hours of classes. I can always make weekend getaways for domestic workshops, but the overseas ones take too much travel time.
For Christmas vacation 2006, I will teach in CT; Spring Break, 2007 will find me in South Africa.. can’t wait!
Video News
Finally! I am finishing up the editing on the Combinations DVD. Also, I am appearing an upcoming performance DVD from PeKo Records, and shooting a new Advanced Choreography DVD, which teaches a complete routine including tabla solo. Here is a photo from the PeKo Records shoot.
Money & Markets
Gotta stay well-rounded..
Let's look at the inflation front, since it is the key driver of home loan rates.. as well as being the largest determining factor on whether the Fed will decide to keep the Fed Funds Rate in paused, raised or lowered in the near future.
The Federal Reserve's favorite measure of inflation is Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) Price Index, which came in showing inflation still remains higher than expected, and outside the range of what the Fed wants to see. The Fed wants inflation to be 1% to 2%, on a year over year basis. And the PCE, which is the Feds most important measurement of Inflation, showed a reading of 2.5%. That's a little higher than what the Fed wants, but showing signs of moving lower. Why is the PCE so important to the Fed.. and to us as well?
The PCE differs from the CPI (Consumer Price Index) in a few important ways. CPI measures the change of the cost for a "fixed basket" of goods and services, and assumes that consumers will keep buying the exact same thing, regardless of price change, and assumes the consumer has endless resources to do so. PCE is more accurate, because it is more realistic as to how the average shopper makes purchases. For example, if the price of watermelon goes through the roof, a shopper will more than likely make a substitution, or even skip buying watermelons altogether. So let's continue to watch PCE in the months ahead to see if the Fed may be in a position to raise or lower rates early next year. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted.
In any event, it looks like interest rates are staying where they are for the time being, so it is a great time to refinance your way out of an adjustable rate loan. If you would like personalized advice on a purchase, refinance or home equity loan, email me directly. I am happy to help.

All Kinds of Minds
Remember, we are not truly living unless we are giving. Giving is a greater gift than receiving. When you have the privelege of helping someone, you fully understand that gift. Please take a moment to look around you and see what you can contribute to help a person or people around you.
This issue we will look at All Kinds of Minds, a non- profit Institute that helps students who struggle with learning measurably improve their success in school and life by providing programs that integrate educational, scientific, and clinical expertise.
All Kinds of Minds was founded in 1995 by renowned pediatrician, Dr. Mel Levine, and financier Charles R. Schwab to translate the latest research on how children learn into programs, products, and services that help students struggling in school become more successful learners.
All Kinds of Minds has developed a variety of programs to help parents, educators, clinicians, and kids understand and manage learning issues. All are based on a neurodevelopmental approach to learning and a search for recurring themes in a student’s learning and performance, themes upon which we can build an individualized management plan.
CharityNavigator.org has given All Kinds of Minds a 4- start overall rating (organizational efficiency, use of funds, etc.)

Health & Fitness: Cold & Flu Season
Here are some tips to strengthen your defenses this cold and flu season:
First, build up your immune system by catching up on sleep and eating a balanced diet. During sleep, your body carries out certain immune functions. And I don’t need to remind you that nutrients from a balanced diet are crucial to immune function.
Wash your hands frequently, and carry a hand sanitizer with you to keep your hands germ free. Hand to mouth is the most common way that people get sick, so keep those hands clean.
Try getting steamy.. literally. That's right, sitting in a hot steam room can actually kill many germs that cause illness. If you live in a house in which the air becomes dry from winter heating, consider using a humidifier or spending a few minutes a day breathing steam in a hot shower. This prevents your nasal passages and mucosa lining from becoming dry. Dry, cracked skin can become a host for germs. Remember to keep your shower and humidifier clean and sanitized.. adding steam to an unsanitary surface can aerosolize harmful bio-contaminants.
If you do get sick..Try take a high dose combo of Vitamin C and Zinc, which can markedly reduce cold symptoms. For preventative measures - try a product like Airborne, to help keep your immune system strong. And yes, drink lots of water or fluids to help flush out your system.
Did you know you that a simple saline nasal irrigation can flush out the germs and help reduce infection in your nasal passages? A saline nasal wash, available at most drugstores, can lubricate, protect and clean nasal tissues. Stay healthy!
Aimee & Lowell's Wedding
The Diva Soma Dance Company surprised one of their troupe members by importing me all the way from L.A. to Omaha, Nebraska for Aimee and Lowell's wedding. Needless to say, they were shocked.
If you ever need to plan something really sneaky, these girls are experts. They planned the whole thing, flew me out, arranged accommodations and a welcoming party, and snuck me into the wedding reception without anyone finding out. It was great. The look on Aimee and Lowell's face was priceless.
I guess you could call me a Wedding Crasher..

Keep Those Questions Coming
Question: What is the most important advice you would give someone who wants to become a professional dancer?
Answer: A few things. First of all, dance every day, or at least 5 days per week, for at least an hour. It's the only way to train your body and become fluent.
Learn all you can about music. Understand it so you can translate it with your body.
Express yourself. Learn the steps and the form, but when you dance, open up and dance your own dance.
Dance because you enjoy dancing and music, and remember that always when you dance. If you dance because you want money, fame or attention, or you want people to think you are sexy, your dancing will lack. You can only truly excel in dance if you dance for the dance. Not for money, not for attention, just for dance. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you for subscribing to this list, and for taking the time to read. I hope some of this information was useful, or at the very least, I hope it brightened your day. See you in the next issue!
Sincerely, Rania
