Does anyone know of a song called Banat el Shobora? A class I'm in is using it for a recital, but because the instructor found it on an unlabeled compilation cd, we don't know who the artist might be, never mind what it might be about. It's a very shaabi song. I've tried googling but haven't come up with anything, apart from learning a little about Shobra :-)

Re: Banat el Shobora/Shobra?
Tue, June 24, 2008 - 7:22 AMShobra is a neighborhood in Cairo, like others mentioned in the song: Sabtaya, El Qalaa, Khalifa, Souq el Abour, Maadi, Zamalek...
I heard somewhere that Riko used to be a drummer, and he used to sing the "Shobra" section of the original "Aadi fi Maadi" with another singer. People loved his rendition so much that it got him famous. -

Tue, June 24, 2008 - 11:16 AMThanks for the replies--we did figure out it was Riko, and the song is pretty much just about how everybody in Shobra likes to party and their girls are the prettiest and their men are the best, etc. :-) -
