ABOUT HADIA: She is in great demand internationally as a performer,
master instructor and choreographer. Hadia has performed and
instructed throughout the world and has an innate ability to weave
the subtle nuances and textures of oriental music into movement. Her
ingenious teaching skills draw upon her multi-faceted 35-year career
as an artist and her 15 years as a registered practitioner and
instructor of message/manual therapy. She skillfully applies her
extensive knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology to create thorough,
clear and disciplined breakdowns of all techniques. Her understanding
of the peoples and cultures of the Middle East is reflected in her
attentive application to oriental rhythms and encouragement of

Pyramid Lounge Info?

I've heard a little about this, but curious about the details... Where and when (and what?) is the Pyramid Lounge?
Is it just for Cabaret style dance? I'm *sort of* a tribal fusion dancer, though I like to skip the whole Tribal part and call myself a 'Fusion' belly dancer. So, is this a diverse show, or just Cabaret?
Is it once a month? When?
I'm trying to get my ass out there and find places to perform and am curious about this event. Any info would be swell, as I'm kinda new.

Kajira and Chuck asked me a few days ago, and I probably haven't slept since! - way too excited!!

So, that means that my girls - "Sistahs of Alchemy" - Shelley and Shana will be going with me to perform on the big stage, too!!!!

Seattle Nightlife

This Thursday the Seattle City Council will be meeting to discuss the city's nightlife policies and possibly vote on a limited license for clubs that the city could later revoke if the club does not meet their requirements. In plain english, any club that is required to purchase this license can be shut down and put out of business at any time the city and our favorite mayor decide so.

The council will be taking public comment at this meeting.

It's important for us as a community to represent our interests and show that there is a large base of constituents willing to stand up for their rights and their way of life. There will be plenty of pressure there from the uber-rich condo owners who think they can buy homes in a club district and shut them down with noise complaints willing to make campaign donations to get their way. We have to show that we are just as powerful a force and that we ARE paying attention. Please come down and let your voice be heard, if only by being present.

The meeting will take place this Thursday August 16th at 6pm in West Seattle at the Highpoint Community Center, 6920 34th Ave. SW.

"Tribal Duets & Slinky Sets" duet Workshop with Lava in Vancouver BC!

Sun. Apr.15/07 - "Tribal Duets & Slinky Sets" workshop (the 2nd workshop in my series this spring):

12 - 3:30pm @ Scotia Dance Ctr. - 677 Davie St.

This workshop will look at learning to dance in 2's and developing a connection. We will focus on both moves for lead & follow tribal, and tribal fusion - borrowing flavors from Indian style & Hip Hop style (cool, smooth moves), covering both styles - something for everyone. Intro to "energy practice and development" for ultimate presentation. Drilling specific moves & seqences with one or two combos, for each style. Smooth is the word & Slinky enough to make you say "oooh - aaaah"!
Workshop includes conditioning warm up, drills, and much practice in moves and presentation. Good for any level, or any style of bellydance.

Bring yoga mat, if you have one & lots of water!

$40 advance payment

Tribal / Fusion belt & necklace Unusual!

Metal belt and necklace set for tribal or fusion costume. Extremely unusual and beautiful. Turquoise stones and lots of detail. Belt is approximately 36 1/2 inches from end to end. I added about 6 inches of extensions to the belt using complimentary metal links and crosses. The extensions look like they are part of the original piece. These extensions can easily be taken off for a smaller size. Any of the chain links, for that matter, can be removed to fit smaller sizes. Set is $150 + shipping

Saturday March 10/07 - 12 - 3:30pm @ Scotia Dance Ctr. - 677 Davie St.
"Zills dat Killz - Progressive Skillz" - a workshop in finger cymbal practice with movement

Workshop includes conditioning warm up to get the body warmed, stretched & free of tension - targeting key muscle groups for isolation maintainance and core strength. Isolation drills to maintain posture and practice of all our movements. Shimmy drills to sharpen and maintain quality of our hip locks and shimmies. Finger Cymbal drills (many!) - isolated and layered! Short combos for practice. (A brain teaser to two!)
* Finger cymbal practice is good practice in timing/pattern skills, musical comprehension, and layering skills - whether you incorporate them into your dance or not, they are still great practice for keeping your musical reflexes sharp, internalizing the music, and becoming a better dancer.
Workshop good for any style / any level of bellydance.

Gather your courage! Come out and share your beauty with us all.

The first Monday of every month Raqs Serpentine puts on the Pyramid Lounge at High Dive in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. The mission of this event is to bring dancers of all experience levels and areas of belly dance together in joyful appreciation of our art form, our community and ourselves. It also gives us all a place to invite people from outside our community to come and see dancing in a setting that is both professional and low key.

We are looking for volunteers to dance for approx. 5 min. time slots. Solos, duets, troupes even entire classes are welcome.

Teachers, this is a great opportunity for students to gain performance experience in a supportive environment. We also have supporting slots open, approx. 10-15 min. We’d love to have you! Feature performers have been booked through 2007.

One of mine is Phil Thornton in which I'm searching.

He along with Fritz Heede & Micheal Beach (with whom I can find all
over the place) are my three sources for the Best BELLY Dance music
I could or would ever want to hear. That's what I used to use/play
all of the time before I once again (after leaving it for a minute)
am 'back into the Dance'.

November 2005 "Rak On! Bellydance" TV show

Finished editing and I'm excited about how it turned out. The new show, shot at the October "Pyramid Lounge" event, will premiere THIS Saturday November 12th at 7pm. It can also be viewed online at that time at www.pugetsoundaccess.org

This show will also repeat every Monday at 1pm and Wednesday at 10am for a month following the premiere/debut.

This is the last show for this season (the season should resume in Jan 2006).

Finger Cymbals and Pilates with Melissa Ruby

Build a strong foundation for your dance! “Dancing from the core “ is a must for dancers of all levels from complete beginners to professionals. Reach into the grab bag of tricks of L.A. based musician, dancer and Pilates instructor Melissa Ruby for exercises and inspiration to move your practice forward and radically improve your dance. Strengthen your rhythm connection and increase the core strength of your body.

After a Pilates based warm up and workout, we’ll cover playing finger cymbals in the style of the tabla, using both rhythmus and zill patterns. There is a fun choreography to help you remember the new information you just learned and get you dancing with your zills.

night in a benefit for the survivors of Huricane
Katrina.

"The Gulf Coast is my home and I would like to
dedicate this dance to my friends and family who are
dealing with this crisis right now. And I would like
to thank all of you who are making your contributions

Please join us in helping to support the Red Cross in
their efforts to respond to the needs of the hurricane
victims. All proceeds from door admission and silent
auction to go to the Red Cross.

Ghost in the Machine begins with the screening of Burning Man: Beyond Black
Rockand features the first ever Seattle performance of Mutaytor (percussion,
fire, trapeze, and more!!), as well as the musical stylings of KJ Sawka (live
drum n' bass), Puls8r (live hip hop/IDM), and Obelus (Live IDM/Experimental).
The evening will also spotlight Raqs Serpentine, fire performance, stilting,
and acrobalancing. The Machine's own 8-channel spacialized audio system and
portions of the sculpture will be installed in the Conworks gallery.

post-modern circus. The act takes drastically-advanced elements of the

and throws them directly at spectators as riotous surreal entertainment
notable
for "turning civilians into Rockstars."

Closer to a digital drum machine than you could ever imagine, yet
created in the
most "analog" way possible -with 2 arms, 2 feet and a pair of sticks- KJ
Sawka drops jaws with new techniques and rhythms for the drum, creating
incredibly intense high-energy drum n' bass tempos.

Puls8r
Puls8r is a ruckus combination of melodic baselines and guitar riffs, Hip Hop
turntablism and funky, booty movin' beats.

Obelus is the Seattle-based live electronic duo of Adam Pessl and Jason
Goessl.
By playing traditional instruments of guitar and drums through a matrix of
samplers, effects, and sequencers, Obelus reconstructs sounds into an eclectic
mix of tempos, textures, and moods.

Raqs Serpentine is a modern belly dance troupe rooted in ancient tradition.
Their style has been described as modern dance meets belly dance and belly
dance theatre.

The Machine (http://www.themach12e.org)
The Machine is a multi-storied meta-mechanical structure with 8 articulated
kinetic limbs. Over the course of one week it will be shaped and altered
carrying the cumulative evidence of environmental and human influence.

As drive wheels are turned a transmission will engage gears that rotate a
central core and upper platform and slowly raise the limbs. Each interaction
will generate a new stage of evolution and unique configuration. The city of
Black Rock will give life to this monolithic organism.
