I've been told that helmet visors with a pin or hooking system have been outlawed in the SCA (which basically means that you have to use a leather strap around the back of the helmet now). Does anyone know if this is a) true and b) are there any details as to why? Surely one could construct a safe pin system?

Re: pins on helmet visors in the SCA
Thu, December 7, 2006 - 11:04 PMIve not heard this myself... there are plenty of push-pin visor latches still running about the kingdom so I highly doubt it.
the safest version Ive seen uses a push pin with the actual holding pin and the holding pin has a hook or toggle that goes in it.

Re: pins on helmet visors in the SCA
Wed, May 30, 2007 - 4:43 PMwell, one of these days i'm going to have to figure out how to pin down the pigface visor on my bascinet. I'm using the old strap around the back thing for my grill. -

Re: pins on helmet visors in the SCA
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 11:38 AMI read somewhere (the AA maybe) about making a spring pin out of a 3-4" piece of a hacksaw blade.
The pin goes on one end, rivet the other end to the inside of the helm, the pin passes through a hole in the helm and in the visor, and secures with a hook on the outside of the visor.
Did that make sense? a diagram would be better. -
