darkvictory.com they have a set of HPDE armor for $230. Has anyone done business with them? Or know anything about the armor itself?

The fact is this is plastic armor that may or may not be of protective value. It's not cheap like one would assume it to be, seeing as it's plastic laced together with cord, and it's not fitted to you individually like good protective armor is, and it in no way actually resembles armor of any period or culture.
If you're of the mindset that looks dont matter, just getting on the field to fight is important first and foremost then this would be an option.
if you're of the mindset that armor is cool, and part of the fun of fighting is wearing cool armor from some historical period than this really isnt a good option.
In my personal opinion it looks like congealed shit, doesnt protect worth a damn, and my 3 year old could make nicer armor out of paperclips and string.
If you're looking into armor options I couldnt personally reccomend them to you when I'm aware of so many better options out there.

Dont Do It Man!! you'll only be kicking yourself in the ass 6months from now.
Dark Victory is crap. Period. End of story.
The only way this guy stays in business is by selling his crappy armour to newbies that either dont know any better or dont have someone looking out for them.
Do yourself a favor and look on the Armour Archive... do a search for DarkVictory armour, and see how respected they are in the armouring community... then look at the Classifieds section, or look up Stonekeep armoury... For the same amount of $$ youd spend on DV armour, you'll be able to put together a much more protective and better-looking kit...

I think Animal said it best... "I would rather put out grease fires with my testicles than wear Dark Victory armour".

"I think Animal said it best... "I would rather put out grease fires with my testicles than wear Dark Victory armour"

        QUOTED for TRUTH!!!!!!!
Plain and simple what this guy sells is the armour equivalent of a turd, and no matter how you polish it, or how "cheap" it is it's still a TURD!!
If you are looking for armour, do yourself a favor, follow the advice given above go to the Armour Archive and look around ask for advice research anybody you think you might want to do business with. If you are looking for a "starter" kit look at Stonekeep armoury, Mad Matts armoury, or James River armoury, all 3 of these guys have good reputations on the archive, and I know that with Stonekeep or Mad Matt they have both PROVEN you can outfit yourself in a good "starter" kit from them for the same money you'd spend on a DVA turd suit.
        Just my 2 Rubles, YMMV.

Save up your money for now. When you get about 250 bucks get back with us...

We can hook you up better than Dark Victory.

Do you have a jig saw? Do you have a drill? Do you have an oven? Do you have a propane torch?

If you have these things you can make plastic armor yourself. Some places that sell Kydex are a bit touchy about who they sell it to and what its use will be. Atleast that is the case in the Washington Metro area. If you live near a winery ask them when they sell there barrels. Most small vinyards use plastic barrels these days and they sell them off after a couple uses. The smell goes away after awhile. The cost is about $50 a barrel in my area and you can get a full set of armor and then some from a barrel.

Leather armor is also easy to make but will cost more. You can make the barrel armor even if you live in an apartment. Just make sure the room is well vented.
