For those who grew up in Florida, this barely merits a mention, to anybody else it's a jaw dropping example of why nobody in that state should be allowed to vote, drive, or own a gun:

Re: They only fired him, they didn't burn him at the stake
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 1:30 PMI heard about this! Thanks for the link. The teacher was obviously trying to make learning more engaging to his students; what a sin!
Furthermore, slight of hand is not a supernatural power. What did the school board think? That the guy was a real witch or something? Shouldn't the school board be disciplined for being butt-ignorant?
What is happening in this country? The stupid people seem to be increasing at an alarming rate, just as predicted in Idiocracy.

Re: They only fired him, they didn't burn him at the stake
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 4:45 PMI grew up in the town not far from there and the whole region is like that. My own town has had repeated efforts to try and sneak creationism into the fucking science classes! Mind you this bunch are the poster children for hatemongering assholes everywhere. When they weren't spouting off about how great they were for putting their beliefs over anything else, they were ranting about how this minority and that minority should all die in horrible ways.

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 4:50 PMI never seem to hear any good news from Florida. My dislike for that state almost makes global warming seem worth it. -

Re: They only fired him, they didn't burn him at the stake
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 5:05 PMI often feel like the refugee trying to properly convey how bad things are and nobody seems to take us seriously. In my home town one church actually held a book burning. At my high school a girl was "cast out" of her puritanical mormon family because she had smoked a cigarette (child services did nothing). The reason why these things don't even make it to the local news anymore is down there it is so commonplace that it's just not worth bringing up anymore. -

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 5:19 PMIf you've only lived in California, its hard to understand the much of the US is not only in a different time zone, they are in a different reality. One of the good things the Army did for me was expose me to the eclectic cultures that make up the US.
